So...this band is like a cross between Porcupine Tree and Eisley, you say? Hmm. Perhaps I should give this band a listen.
Gadough isn't Hitler. He's much, much worse.

In Aurelia sold me, I'd recommend that if you fancy just checking out a wee bit of the band. No idea what Eisley are like, though, so don't know which PRR era you'd prefer. Deus Ex Machina is one of the highlights of their electronic stuff, and The Twyncyn / Trembling Willows is the best out of their more organic stuff.

Can't go wrong starting with any of those three, though they're all quite drastically different songs. Then move onto Fight Fire.

Combine old Porcupine Tree, some Eisley (really mostly in the vocals), Daft Punk, and some heavier Muse stuff and you have PRR at this point, Gadough.  Get AVO and The Dark Third.

Rob: What CD is Twyncyn/Trembling Willows on?  Some EP or bonus disk I don't know about?

sorry, but I don't hear any similarities between PRR and Eisley.

It's on The Dark Third.  ;)

The new album is pretty solid, the only track i don't like would be "Fight Fire" (because i find it repetitive, and only Chloe singing, so no harmony-singing), apart from that i think all the songs are good, though i don't really find any of the songs to be GREAT.
AVO had the same solidness, but it also had higher peaks (The Gloaming, Disconnect), but overall i think The Dark Third is the best, because it's more fascinating then both the newer. :P

Was there some special version of The Dark Third that I missed?  I actually do have the CD and I don't have that song.

EDIT: Okay, its on the European version, along with two other songs that aren't on the US version.

Oh christ! That's like their best song!

They do have some weird stuff going on with The Dark Third. I don't have Nimos & Tambos, nor Asleep Under Eiderdown.

Guys, get the 2 disc version for goodness sake, you're missing out on a lot. The US version is horrible, missing out on Trembling Willows, and the UK doesn't have Nimos & Tambos. It's really essential to hear both song imo!

Also, I've decided the following:

The Dark Third = masterpiece
AVO = awesome
HaA = great

I've just started listening to them this morning. I got through most of the album called "Amor" something (sorry, dont remember the name).

I really liked it though. Really good stuff

ARMOUR CONQUERS ALL.

I think I like that slightly more than the actual title.

I think Hammer and Anvil was slightly disappointing to be honest, all the songs are good, but not a single song strikes me as being "awesome" or better then previous songs, i also miss that progressive-element they used to have, combined with the fact that i think H&A has the least "album-feeling" out of the 3 albums.

Agreed. Fight Fire's the closest. There's no sign of a Deus ex Machina or an In Aurelia or a Trembling Willows, and the other albums had a couple. In fact, on AVO, I'd say every single song had a very distinct character - even the ones I wasn't so fond of. The Gloaming might've been the only exception, and is probably why I'm not so fond of it.

Fight Fire wasn't even written by the band.

Yeah, what's with the whole outside songwriter thing?  Did PRR just run out of ideas or something?  I don't get it...

Tom Bellamy formerly of The Cooper Temple Clause I guess co-wrote and co-produced every song on Hammer & Anvil, save for Fight Fire which was his entirely. I can't say I've ever been overly impressed by TCTC, although I haven't spent hours listening to their music. I know a lot of the Porcupine Tree fans love them though.

I agree with this 100%. H&A feels like a B-Sides album of leftovers from AVO.

After a few listens, I agree that the album is not as good as AVO. It's a very good, but not great record. While Fight Fire is my least favorite, Blitzkrieg is by far the best song on the album.

I think the main/intro-riff in Fight Fire is pretty good, but the rest of the song is just repetitive and mediocre. :/

Sadly this album had a really short life for me, i listened to it 15-20 times in 3 days when i got it, but now i don't really see myself listening to it for another 3-4 years at least.
If i wanna listen to PRR, i'd just put on The Dark Third. :P
