Well, they quit when they were behind, at least.  Two great albums and one horrible one isn't a bad record, though stopping after H&A leaves a bit of a bad taste in my mouth...ears.  This also means I'll never see them live.  :( :( :( :( :(

Sad news, one of my favorite modern Progressive bands.
However, Hammer & Anvil was a big let down from AVO, and AVO in it's turn didn't quite live up to the epicness of The Dark Third, so maybe they stopped at the right time.
Or maybe their next album would've been even better, we can only speculate.

Damn, first Oceansize and now PRR?  :sadpanda:  What does the universe have against my favorite modern progressive bands from the UK?  Here's a coincidence too: I bought the Dark Third and Frames at the same time and they were my introductions to each band!  And ever since I've always kind of grouped them together, like telling people who are fans of older english prog that "there's a bunch of great new progressive bands coming from the UK these days- Oceansize, Pure Reason Revolution..."  :(

I can't imagine TDT sounding all that great on vinyl. Might just be me though.

Damn, TDT is one of my favorite albums EVER. Can't say the next two agreed with me too much, but still, always a shame when a band capable of creating a masterpiece like TDT calls it quits. :(

If PT split up but Steven Wilson would still continue to make music in his other projects (with maybe more focus on his solo-stuff), I think I would be okay.
But I mean, if something happened to Steven...  :(

but as it happens to be the week after Thanksgiving, I can't. :(

Within 10 minutes of reading this thread, I have sampled The Dark Third on Itunes and bought it. They are fantastic and there's nothing I love more then discovering new music. Especially bands I would have never known about otherwise.

After watching Live at Scala a couple of times yesterday, some of the H&E stuff really started to grow on me.  I think a lot of that album is stuff that works really well live but doesn't translate well to a studio album.

Except "Fight Fire".  That song is just stupid any way you look at it :(

I went to the first of the farewell gigs last night.

It was outstanding. Sound was great in the venue apart from Chloe's mic being too low.

Hammer & Anvil songs are AMAZING live. They totally beat AVO's live, which was very surprising.

The Dark Third was epic.

The drummer did lots of nice little improv fills, I noticed his drumming on the Hammer and Anvil material was the fanciest/strongest too.

The guitarist was really cool too, their live mix puts the guitar as more prominent, so I heard and saw a lot that you just don't hear on the CD.

The setlist was killer:

Blitzkrieg (with Disconnect) <---- awesome little mashup
Black Mourning
Les Malheurs <---- might be missing a song here but I don't think so
Valour
Deus Ex Machina
Last Man, Last Round
The Twyncyn / Trembling Willows <---- SO heavy, SO awesome
Fight Fire <----- so much better live
AVO
Aeropause
Goshen's Remains
Apprentice of the Universe
The Bright Ambassadors of Morning
Nimos and Tambos <------ FIRST TIME PLAYED LIVE AND IT WAS AMAZING
Voices in Winter / In the Realms of the Divine <---- amazing, the guitars came out far better than on CD
Bullitts Dominæ  <----- I can't believe they didn't play this live till recently
Arrival / The Intention Craft
He tried to show them magic
Encore:
Ambassadors return

They didn't play part 3 of the final track (after the silence), Asleep under Eiderdown, which was a bit odd, but then it's actually a song from Chloe and Jon's previous band prior to PRR, so perhaps it's not part of the The Dark Third main album as with the second CD songs (though The Exact Colour was on the UK single cd)

Still bummed that these guys are calling it.
While The Dark Third remains untouched as their best album, they were still one of the more promising new bands. :(

Not much information about that so I don't know, but I hope soon means soon. This sounds really promising. I think this will be released under the name "Chloe", but they were previously named "Flood". Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

yeah she changed the name of the project. Although while there are a handful of other acts named "Flood" there are also a few others that go by "Chloe" lol. So, she kind of tends to not choose names as distinct as PRR or even Period Pains.

Kimbra got it, but I wonder if ultimately she might have just wanted to go by her full name.
