Lolno.

AVO is a 4/5, TDT is 5/5.

The Dark Third is my favorite also, it's more progressive then the others, and features more harmony-singing.

Oh, was Gorille talking about the Dark Third?  I thought he was talking about H&A!  Whoops.

I consider TDH and AVO both to be fantastic albums, just for entirely different reasons.

So apparently Jon and Chloe were in another band before PRR called The Sunset Sound and they released a couple of single.  Just picked them both up.  Never even knew this stuff existed - it's like getting four 4 brand new PRR songs plus an older version of "Asleep Under Eiderdown"!  =)

I really hope the next album will be much different, Hammer and Anvil is quite possibly one of the biggest let downs I've ever experienced during my 19 years in life.

Saw them live again at the beginning of this month, and they were GREAT again (despite Chloe's sickness, so that the set was only 70 minutes). One of the highlights being "Fight Fire With Fire", with the band being much more "wild" than you might think. Jamie jumping around stage, Chloe kneeling down, Paul and John just coming loose.

After the gig, they came out to talk and sign stuff and it became apparent that they are not as cool as on stage, but quite shy and still not knowing how to behave on stage. But they really improved and talk to the audience.
I think their future still lies ahead of them.

So jealous.  They're at the very top of my list of bands I'm dying to see live that I haven't had the chance to yet.

Also - I <3 Chloe.

I would be more excited for the next album, but getting an outside guy to write most of the music now is just...not a good idea, I think.  At least not with a band that has recently proven it can write amazing albums.  H&A just didn't have any kind of addictive spark that made me want to listen to it again.

Hey, so this band is pretty awesome.

Orion....that's the one with a bunch of power chords and boringly harsh vocals, isn't it?

Will that be the case going forward too?  I thought that, with the exception of "Fight Fire" (which, imo, is the worst song on the album), Jon still was involved in the songwriting.  Is there some indication that this won't be the case in the future?

No idea, but if they have to resort to hiring a guy to help write music this early in their careers, that troubles me a lot.

I'm not THAT familiar with the band, but I sort of got the impression that it was more of a "hey let's try something different" thing than a "We need help" sort of thing.  From interviews I've read here and there, I get the sense that they're just kind of free-floating and trying different things without being wedded to any one particular style.  I think in a recent interview somewhere Chloe said something along the lines of "we like trying different things and doing whatever we're feeling into at the time.  Just because we've moved on from one particular style for now it doesn't necessarily mean that we'll never go back"

I'm definitely cool with a band that moves on to different styles, that's why I wasn't so disappointed like a lot of other fans were when AVO came out.  It just seems a bit wrong for a band that made two great albums to follow up with a disappointing third one, and it very well could have been avoided by actually writing more than one song.  I know they're capable of so much more in terms of quality when they write their own stuff!  Hopefully they'll come to their senses for the next one and come out with another great album.

I get what you mean about H&A not having any 'spark' SDN, I totally feel the same way.
Easily their worst album.

I do still listen to it occasionally, but yeah, I really hope the next album is much better, because the death and birth of a great new band in two albums is just downright depressing :(

Listened to The Dark Third today for the first time in a long while.
Simply fantastic album, love it for many reasons, but compared to the band's later work, this album is the only one that really has an 'album'-feel, no matter what version of the album you're listening to.
The flow between songs is simply amazing, and I can't really pick a favorite because it's all so good.

Album rankings:

1. The Dark Third (10/10)
2. Amor Vincit Omnia (8,5/10)
3. Hammer and Anvil (6/10)

I've been liking Hammer and Anvil quite a lot at the moment, I guess i'm in the mood for some industrial/electronic.

Blitzkrieg is GREAT.

I don't really like the sampling in Blitzkrieg, it's way too repetitive for my taste.
However, the rest of it is a great song.  :tup

It does seem a bit like a tame aphex twin song at times though.

The Dark Third is one of my favorite albums of all time. I've only heard a few songs off the latest two albums, and I wasn't very impressed... I'm still gonna get the albums though, because I'm sure there are a few gems in there.

I have to say, Hammer and Anvil sounds sonically fantastic on my new headphones, far more so than either previous album.

Well, soundwise it's good, but overall it just has nothing on The Dark Third.
That album is just... mindblowingly fantastic.

True, but listening to it gloriously rose it a notch.

Either way, I'm hoping for a return to form.

I don't think the issue is their form, they decided to change music-style completely, and as a result they dropped a lot of the things that made them special, like the great harmony-vocals and the progressive-elements combined with some electronica.
