This probably won't be a popular opinion, but over the last couple of months I've been crazily into Showbiz. It grew on me so much that I would call it a personal favorite of mine, right behind the untouchable Origin of symmetry. I like how they were just into writing insanely catchy rock songs early in their career, the melodies on it are fantastic.

I need to listen to Showbiz more. I like what I've heard off of it, but I'm admittedly not as familiar with it as I am with the band's other albums.

Guys, recently the band has posted on instagram old covers of magazines with them, with their eyes completely black and the titles censored, with the hashtag #MuseDrones - I think that it's pretty official now.

Potentially. Some folks are thinking Drones might just be the name of the first single or something. :lol We'll see where it goes. :tup

That's good stuff. :coolio

Indeed it is. I hope to talk with her more in the days to come. :coolio

So, perusing back through this thread again, we never talked about the Romo live DVD. I've had it for a while, but had never just sat down and watched it from start to finish, until last night, and after doing so, let me just say...WOW.  That is easily one of the best live concert films I've ever seen.  Pretty awesome how the crowd goes absolutely berserk for nearly every song they played.  So, so good.  :hat

Also, when the release was first announced, just looking at the running order, I had said this:

a. They left off Unsustainable, which WAS the opening song.  Maybe they got the idea from U2, who did the same thing on their Rose Bowl DVD (left off the first song that was performed), but it is moronic.

b. No Stockholm Syndrome or New Born, which were rotated from show to show all tour.  And SS was even played at the filmed show, but was cut! Unreal.

c. Guiding Light?  Seriously? :lol :lol :lol

d. They left off Liquid State, which is not a song I am not crazy about, but it is a rare lead vocal from Chris Wolstenholme.  And you leave it off the video even though it was actually played at the show you filmed?

a. I still wish they had included Unsustainable in the main set, instead of having it merely as an extra, but Supremacy was a great opener, so I am okay with it.

b. Stockholm Syndrome is included as an extra as well, and it heavily features the pyramid stage show that we saw on the U.S. tour, so that was pretty great.

c. Guiding Light actually worked in the set, especially with the cool things they did with it live (the big light bulb and whatnot).

d. Also included as an extra from the U.S. leg.

Overall, I might put this up in the top tier of live concert DVDs ever...simply amazing.  :hat

The fact with that DVD it's that it's pretty cool, but.. I enjoyed the extra songs more than the concert itself  :lol

On the one hand, I wish they would have released an entire show from the U.S. leg with the pyramid stage show.

On the other hand, the Rome show was such an awesome spectacle, with the massive crowd going bananas for practically every song, that they had to release something that awesome.

That riff at the end is always guaranteed to get a rock crowd bouncing like no other riff.  :metal :metal

Also, I see that Matt Bellamy and Kate Hudson broke up, which leads to the question of whether he will now want to play and sing Madness live, considering it is about her.  It's hard to envision them not playing it, considering how big it was, but Billy Joel didn't play Uptown Girl for decades after he broke up with Christine Brinkley, so you never know. Muse has enough live beastly mainstays that avoiding one wouldn't be the end of the world, but you gotta figure that they know a lot of newer fans became fans because of Madness, so I think it stays in the sets.

Yup and the album title has been officially confirmed to be "Drones." The album artwork will be done by Matt Mahurin.

https://www.mattmahurin.com/new-blog/2015/2/6/muse-project

I've taken a quick look at the guy's existing art and it's some pretty dark stuff. I'm excited to see what he comes up with for the album.

Can't wait to see where they go with this one.

Soundscape is doing a good job at keeping title updated, and it's only at 20 pages, no need for new thread yet.

Still seems too early to make a new thread, I think. But that's just me.

In other news, I just ordered the CD soundtrack for Hullabaloo yesterday. So excited! :metal :hefdaddy

I have the feeling that there's still some news to come either today or tomorrow, but they just released the official album cover! I'm really digging this one; it's a great nod to the cover for Absolution, while also coming off as something that Rush would've done back in the 80's! :tup

The tracklist if anyone is interested...

Quote
Drones will be released on 8 June 2015!

From Matt: “To me, 'Drones' are metaphorical psychopaths which enable psychopathic behaviour with no recourse.  The world is run by Drones utilizing Drones to turn us all into Drones.  This album explores the journey of a human, from their abandonment and loss of hope, to their indoctrination by the system to be a human drone, to their eventual defection from their oppressors."

The first single from Drones, “Dead Inside,” will debut the week of 23 March. Preorder for the new album will be available tomorrow at 7:30pm GMT, along with the new song “Psycho.”

DRONES
1. Dead Inside
2. [Drill Sergeant]
3. Psycho
4. Mercy
5. Reapers
6. The Handler
7. [JFK]
8. Defector
9. Revolt
10. Aftermath
11. The Globalist
12. Drones

Co-produced by Muse and Robert John “Mutt” Lange

-Marc.

Otherwise, great to see a new Muse album being announced. Loved The 2nd Law.

I don't have super high expectations given everything that's been said about the album so far. I loved 2nd Law, but it doesn't sound like they're going to continue in that direction. Even so, I'm still quite excited and really looking forward to that single on the 23rd

And that's exactly why I don't pay attention to most of the noise about a new album coming out. Fuck what other people say about it, just wait until it comes out and then form an opinion. Shit gets labeled/categorized before people have even heard it and then people make assumptions about whether they're going to like it or not. It's lame. Let the music speak for itself, not a bunch of words.

It's Muse. They've never put out a bad album. They like to change directions and try new things, and that's why they rule.

I don't know if that's a more general comment or not but, just to be clear, not having super high expectations != having low expectations. And basing those expectations off of what the band has said, regarding the album's direction, is hardly just listening to 'the noise' and letting it determine your opinion before listening for yourself. It would be like if John Petrucci came forward to say that the next DT album was going to explore some funk. I'd still be excited and definitely give it a chance. But, upon hearing the news, is also look to temper my expectations a little bit. Getting super hyped about an album, when you know that it has certain elements which have historically let you down, is a recipe for unnecessary dissatisfaction.

I agree with the sentiment though- let the music speak for itself. It could be great, like I think 2nd Law was, and hopefully it is.
