Raw Dog
« on: April 12, 2010, 12:21:29 PM »
I finally got around to downloading and listening to Raw Dog... it is just supposed to cut out, a la Pull Me Under, or did I get a bad download (which means I got screwed on iTunes)?  Please don't hate me for being a mod and having just listened to this, but I'm a very busy guy right now and have RL getting in the way of my listening pleasure
I don’t know what to put here anymore

Apparently, the song is supposed to cut off like that.  Which detracts from my enjoyment of it.

Yes it was supposed to fade out, but for whatever reason it cuts out the last seven or so seconds

Yeah it is because they had to cut some samples from the end or something.

How come I remember a version with a fade out? Maybe it was from before the EP was released?

Just listened to mine, and it also has the end cut out.

Very poorly too. I made a fade out and it sounds professional. Yeah, I'm awesome.

Its an ok song. I don't think I would ever purposely play it, but if it came on shuffle I'd probably let it play.

Me too.  It's not bad enough to skip, but it's not good enough to play on purpose.

I put it on a prog metal compilation cd precisely because I hadn't listened to it much and wanted a few more spins.  I'm glad it's on there now, as it's a cool song, but it's certainly not ground-breaking or anything (not that it need be).  I agree that if I was itching to put on some DT, it would be far from the first thing I reached for.

It's not okay. Raw Dog should be played to children in their incubators.

i wonder who did that... :)

ha I didn't do that but the version that played on AOL before the song released had the fade out.  I was the one who uploaded it on youtube afterwards.

They're wrong. The sudden ending teachers children that life is finite and they have to live it to the fullest.

Egh...
I dig the song, but its still near the bottom of my DT rankings.
In terms of them playing it live, I could see it happening, but certainly not any tour soon. Frankly, I'd rather hear other demos live then Raw Dog.

I just assumed that DT purposely cut the song as an homage, like they did with Pull Me Under.

I would be interested to know what clips they had intended to include with the song but had to jetison, presumably because of rights issues.

Naah it's not on purpose, it's something the game soundtrack people did, cause a complete version that doesn't end like that exists as I remember ZepplinDT posting a few month back that someone on ebay was selling a promo copy of Raw Dog that only had the song on it and that the seller says it's the complete version.

I'm interested to how complete the song would sound with that end, it was probably just the same but with a climatic ending note

Funny how you want Dt to play songs that have a maiden vibe. This song has a maiden section in it. which would be :metal live

It's good. Not great, but average.
Something I would listen to at the gym for sure though.

I don't get the impression it'll be played live all that often.

Raw Dog seems like the kind of song that, if played live, would either lead directly into something else, or have an extended instrumental jam at the end.

Exactly. I listened to it a few times when it was released, but I haven't listened to it for a long time. Don't feel the urge to either.
