About The Haiti Projekt
Welcome to the home for the Progressive Rock community's charity CD "The Haiti Projekt". This is our effort to raise money for the victims of the Haiti earthquake disaster this January 2010. With a death toll estimated to be more than 200,000 with over 300,000 injured and millions without homes, food, or water, the need for humanitarian help is immense. The Haiti Projekt is a compilation of 40 songs donated by famous and not-so-famous prog bands from around the globe.  The list includes prog luminaries such as Neal Morse (Neal Morse, Spocks Beard), IZZ, Roine Stolt (Agents of Mercy, Transatlantic, Flower Kings), Randy George (Ajalon), Dave Meros (Dave Meros, Spocks Beard), and a special appearance by Derek Sherinian (Dream Theater, Planet X) on the Relocator tune.

This effort is being spearheaded by the co-producer of The Tsunami Projekt and bassist in the instrumental prog metal group Asymmetry, Brian Cobb. In 2005, Brian and Barry Thompson produced a compilation CD that sold over 700 copies and raised over $10,000 for the victims of the Indonesian tsunami disaster. All proceeds were donated to the Red Cross. The same applies to The Haiti Projekt. All proceeds will be donated to the Red Cross in support of their humanitarian efforts in Haiti.

All in all: another GREAT project very worth supporting!  :tup :tup :tup

Bought. I've got a long list of to-listen to stuff though, but i'll probably post a song-by-song verdict once I have heard it.

 :lol

That's what I was thinking. Who are all of those other bands? It's a good cause but I'm not in the money right now so I'd want to make sure I'm getting something I'll enjoy.

Colin Leijenaar is Neal Morse's drummer, fun fact: we were born in the same town, and he went to the exact same schools as I did.

Dave Meros is Spock's Beard bass player.

But, aside from Neal Morse, that's all I know.

Nihil-Morari is generally considered the resident Zappa person.

2 Ajalon - Footprints Footsteps: Christian prog rock
3 Andy Tillison - The Spirit of the Net: the mastermind of The Tangent and Parallel Or 90 Degrees
6 Asymmetry - Descent: new prog metal project including members from the SB forum
16 IZZ - Ready to Go: should be quite well known amongst prog rockers!
17 Little Atlas - Can I Find It (Live): very good melodic prog rock band
26 Projection - Inside: German prog rock artist
27 Relocator - Relocator: great instrumental prog metal, with Derek Sherinian on keys. Kyo from this forum is a member.
28 Roland Enders & Friends - Dreams and Nightmares: German prog rock artist
29 Shadow Circus - Willoughby: released 2 very good prog rock CDs so far
30 Singularity - XOT (Live): also quite known in the prog scene

36 The Healing Road - Ten Days in March: German prog rock artist. Great instrumental stuff.
39 The Sea Turtles - Rollin' 13: jazz.

Just listen to the sound samples on the Haiti homepage.  :tup

Good for you, that means you're going to discover a lot of new artists through this compilation.  :)

  • But not the medical kind.
Cool, think I'll probably get this as there is some stuff I enjoy on it, some stuff I've been meaning to check out, and some stuff I don't have any clue about, a perfect mix.

From the Ajalon I've heard, they're pretty good Christian prog rock. Colin's would be interesting to hear. Neal Morse is a no-brainer for me.

Yeah, it felt similar to me, even though I hardly knew any of the particular songs featured.
I have already ordered several CDs by artists who participated in this compilation based on
their songs (and usually some additional listening to their MySpace samples, of course):

Shadow Circus (x2)
Supernal Endgame
To-Mera (x3 - discovered Haken this way, too)

And I probably would've gone for some release(s) by The Healing Road and Mars
Hollow if I hadn't discovered them not too long before this compilation already. :)

The Neal Morse track sounds like the Testimony version to me...

I've been thinking about how we could reach more people with The Haiti Projekt (I've already been bugging bands' webmasters to feature the whole thing in their news sections...) and I realized that there's something I could do myself - get some promo flyers printed and hand them out at the upcoming TA tour! Now of course I will only be at one or two shows in Germany, but maybe we can get more people on board with that idea and spread the word at several more of those upcoming shows? With tracks by Transatlantic's main writers Neal Morse and Roine Stolt we should find quite a few people there who might be interested in this compilation.

So, anyone here willing to help out in some way? :)

I fear it might already be too late for this to be set up for the US tour dates, but I'd love to be proven wrong about that. The European leg of the tour begins on May 4, so there's still plenty of time to prepare everything.

Make that $2000. It's not exactly flying off the shelves, but it's something.

Did anyone here get this? What are your favorite tracks? :)

Time for an update:

Quote
The Haiti Projekt reports the earnings through Aug 10...

Hello everyone. I wanted to let everyone know that I sent The Haiti Projekt money to the American Red Cross today. The totals are as follows and are current through this moment (Aug 10, 2010):

134 copies sold
$2,680.00 gross intake
$130.72 in PayPal fees
$2,549.28 net intake

I wrote the Red Cross a $2,600.00 check. Once I have a confirmation for the donation, I'll post a scan (for The Tsunami Projekt, they sent us a nice letter of thanks...).

Thanks to those who bought a copy. For those of you who have not, it is still available at https://www.thehaitiprojekt.com
