What are some funny animes that aren't lame or overly cutesy, but not really action/fighting based either?

We liked Ouran High School Host Club and now we're watching School Rumble. Any other suggestions?

Grave of the Fireflies.

Barrel of laughs right there.

Depends what you mean by "lame or overly cutesy" for some of these:

Azumanga Daioh
Lucky Star
K-on!(!)
Arakawa Under the Bridge
Sayonara, Zetsubou Sensei

...my name is Araragi.

Also, I've been meaning to watch Azumanga Daioh, I read part of the manga and lol'd a lot.

Lucky Star has too catchy of a theme, I'll never watch the show, just listen to it, lol.

Cromartie High School, from the episodes I watched, was actually really funny.

Just finished Death Note today :metal

Loved it.

MAJOR SPOILERS BELOW!!!

Only problems I had was that the show lost a lot of its appeal after L died. While I was always rooting for Light (Lunatic that he is), I liked their chemistry together.

And I HATED L's replacement, little white-haired bastard. Near beating Light made me hate him even more.

I kind of Expected Light to be killed in the end, but I hoped he would've lived :D Things could've gotten pretty interesting, especially if he defeats Near in the end and continues building his "empire" (seeing as how the US was pretty much already under his power). It wouldve made for a great second season.

I watched the trailer and it seems interesting. Can you give a me a quick summary of the plot? I know Japan is under Britannia's power, but whats the story about?

It's hard to talk about the plot of Code Geass without spoiling it, but basically, you have Lelouch, who is a Britannian teenager living in Japan. Various circumstances lead him to gain a power called Geass, basically he can give anyone an absolute command which they are obligated to follow, but he can only give any one person one command, ever. For various spoilery reasons, Lelouch decides to use this power to launch a rebellion against Britannia, disguising himself as "Zero", and forming a group called the Order of the Black Knights. Then ALL SORTS OF AWESOME STUFF HAPPENS.

I have to agree here, Volk. After that moment, Death Note took a bit of a dive. The last three, four episodes are all awesome, though (especially the last).

Also, I think Fullmetal Alchemist - Brotherhood might be my favourite Anime so far. Seriously, it has everything that a good anime needs imo: Great plot, great characters and a nice balance between serious and those classic humourous elements. I don't even feel like watching other Anime right now, since I'm in doubt whether I could enjoy them as much as I did with FMA.

Kay, I watched the first episode of Geass last night and it looks really good :tup I can't judge how much I'll like the show just based on the first episode, but I'll keep watching it. Based on what I've seen so far though, I'll definately like it.

Thanks for the rec

I thought so, but I wasn't sure. I know Victoria is in the sun a couple of times, but I never noticed whether Alucard was or not. Is he some time?
