Maybe if you were familiar with Elfen Lied beyond the very violent first scene, you'd know that it is in fact a compelling, disturbing, depressing, and a bit heartwarming psychological thriller, and that I am indeed being serious.

I don't want to post spoilers so I'll second this.

Third'd. Also, my ladyfriend has seen and loved Death Note, and was starting to get into Evangelion but wasn't into the mecha thing, but still loves the gore and adult-content, so I figured AOT is another great way of showing that side of the anime industry while still having a compelling, mysterious story. Especially in the manga, which I'm trying to get her into. I pretty much fell in love when she showed me that she started reading my all-time favorite series, GANTZ, on her own and without my knowledge or fanboy-ish pushing.  :lol

But I'm really loving Steins:Gate and I think she will too. Nice recommendation.  :tup

Oh man, tell us your reaction after episode 5! :corn

Honestly, I'm pretty glad Eren died (or at least he's 'dead' up to this point in the show), I thought he was pretty annoying  :lol

But things are getting pretty dramatic in the show. I'm digging it.

Of course, i have a different opinion on EL so i must haven't seen it
I think it is overrated (well, it was, no more) and appelative to the extreme.
The story sounds more like an excuse for gore and nudity, a bunch of pointless scenes only there for shock value and the characters are even worse.

So I hear there's an anime where Jesus Christ and the Buddha live together as roommates in Tokyo.

That's really all i need. I'm sold on it.

So...I read a yuri manga called Girl Friends. It was pretty much the most amazing manga I ever read. Has anyone else here read it?

I've heard about that anime too and I'm interested in watching it. Unfortunately, I don't know the name of it. Does anyone know the name of this anime?

:lol I've read it. It's okay. If you really want to see a great yuri series, you should watch Revolutionary Girl Utena. One of the best series I've ever had the pleasure of watching. Very intelligent series.

I'm still watching Kill la Kill on a weekly basis (LOVE this show), and I've decided to finally go ahead and watch Neon Genesis Evangelion for the first time ever. Been meaning to do that for awhile.

Kill la Kill has been on fire the last few episodes. I wonder where they'll go from here.

I hear that they're going to release an OVA in the fall. I have a feeling they might end the series on a cliffhanger and resolve it completely with the OVA.

Yeah, I guess I just liked the coming-of-age element of it all. That shit is my weakness.

I've been listening to a bunch of anime themes lately.  I just started Bakemonogatari and I'm really loving the ED.  This along with the openings of Steins;Gate, Higurashi and Mirai Nikki and there is a lot of great music in anime  :tup

The ones I love are the ending themes to the first series of Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, the first series of Chuunibyo and also the music in Shinsekai Yori. That first end theme is amazing.

Oh, and naturally the full version of Raspberry Heaven (complete with all that fretless bass).

I went looking for this thread specifically because of Chunnibyo, so it's a pretty neat coincidence that the most recent post mentions it.

A friend of mine got me to watch it recently, and long story short, we've gone through both seasons in the span of a couple weeks. Such a great show. Absolutely adorable, and surprisingly substantive (especially the first season).

I was wondering if this thread could make a few recommendations for similar types of shows. I'm not 100% sure what 'similar' would even be, so I'm going to leave that pretty open ended.

I'll see what I can do in finding out for you, seeing as I know a lot of very anime-orientated people. I've still got the last four eps to watch from series II with one of my old housemates, so I may see those in the next few weeks (along with deadly levels of chilli). The Melancholy Of Haruhi Suzumiya is similarly zany, but for different reasons, if you've not seen that.

One show which my old housemate and I did watch and enjoy is Nagasarete Airantou. It's one of those shows which should not be anywhere near as enjoyable as it actually is.

The Melancholy Of Haruhi Suzumiya

I want to see this, and started watching it.  But then after reading about the series and learning about chronological/broadcast order, I wasn't sure how to proceed.

Just go broadcast order, then watch ep 00 again to see how much sense it suddenly makes.

And for the Endless Eight, you only really need to watch three of them to get it.

I did see how it ended; I just skipped some in the middle. And also:

1. This is how you do the spoiler thing.
2. I really could not care less about spoilers.

So, what shows are you watching this season? So far I've checked out Captain Earth, Black Bullet and No Game No Life. They all seem pretty promising. NGNL is a lot of fun!

I have to disagree with what pretty much everyone said about Haruhi. :lol

IMO, chronological order is the best, though I do agree you can skip most of Endless Eight. In the book we only see the cycle where it gets solved! Chronological order is also the order of the stories in the books.

Guys, is there anything good this season that isn't Kill La Kill? I'm going to watch that eventually, but I'm in the mood for something non-actiony for right now.
