Bump

I've been watching a good deal of anime recently (thanks to Hulu and Crunchy Roll).  I've seen all of Full Metal Panic, School Days and am planning on starting a few others (Ergo Proxy and Haibane Renmei specifically).

Any recommendations as to other series that I should watch?

Only one I've seen out of those is School Days, and I only watched it for the NICE BOAT  :lol

I could recommend so many things, but it might help to have an idea of what you've seen/enjoyed.

Shinsekai yori and Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun seem to be the standouts so far.

All of these are pretty much based on me being fans of the original/other works by the same people:

Little Busters!
Robotics;Notes
Psycho-pass

New blog post featuring Sakamichi no Apollon (among others), if anyone is interested.

By the way, anyone got the inside scoop on what's good this season?

I'm a subscriber to CrunchyRoll and they have some very interesting titles for this Fall. I've yet to see most of them but I started "BTOOOM!" and it looks to be an intriguing premise and possibly another great addition. However, it's only on episode 2 so there's still much to see, it may well crash and burn, but thus far they've done a fine job of latching the viewer.

Other than that the only new anime I've been watching is Sword Art Online, which is fucking spectacular. I'm loving every episode, and although they're already finished with the first 'arc' (ep 14), it's still going strong and from what I've read it's got a ways to go. I've still got plenty of new shows to watch still so I'll update as I find interesting new shows. I've been much more into manga traditionally, but recently I've begun to watch more and more anime and am opening up to it. It seems to me that most shows that are based off the manga suck some major dick, and thus far that's proven true for nearly every adaptation I've seen. But the few exceptions that I've come across are very, very good. Here's hoping there's more to come.

I could recommend so many things, but it might help to have an idea of what you've seen/enjoyed.

My favorite anime series I've seen are the Tenchi Muyo OVA, Evangelion, Lain, Full Metal Panic, Love Hina, and Fruits Basket.  Movies would include Akira, Perfect Blue, End of Evangelion and pretty much any Miyazaki film I've so far seen.  I have a few shows that I've started and yet to finish (some, like Chobits, I atm don't plan on finishing).

And the only reason I watched School Days was for the ending   :corn

If you enjoyed Perfect Blue, you should check out Paprika, both are created by Satoshi Kon. Paprika is on Netflix subbed if you have it.

Seems like you go in for some of the darker stuff so I will recommend:

Puella Magi Madoka Magica
Elfen Lied
Fate/Zero (not necessary that you're familiar with Fate/Stay Night)
Mirai Nikki
Kara no Kyoukai
Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni

Other great animes in general:

Code Geass
Steins;gate
Mawaru Penguindrum
Bakemonogatari
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

Some good movies:

Summer Wars
Grave of the Fireflies
The Girl Who Leapt Through Time
Dead Leaves

New blog post featuring Sakamichi no Apollon (among others), if anyone is interested.

By the way, anyone got the inside scoop on what's good this season?

Little Busters!
Robotics;Notes
Psycho-pass

I've also heard that Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! and the new Jojo anime are really good. Also, it's been on for four seasons already but Hunter x Hunter is amazing,

Watching this now.  After the third episode, I'm anxious to see what happens next :caffeine:

@ Manga readers:

Evergreen by Kasukabe Akira and Takemiya Yuyuko (the writer of the Toradora! light novels) is coming along quite well. A few more chapters and I'd say it'd be worth looking at for those who haven't already (there are only seven chapters, in case you were wondering why).

Just caught up with Sword Art Online, which is my first "real" anime, other than shows like Avatar and Legend of Korra.  I've casually watched my friends watch Full Metal Alchemist, so I may give that another go.  Any other suggestions?

I'd prefer something dubbed so I can focus on the art, but that's not a dealbreaker (SAO is worth it).

I'd heard that you have to watch past the third episode to get to what the show is really about.  Thanks again for the rec  :tup

@Fiery:
Awesome! I absolutely adore SAO, the anime is doing a great job at creating a world. I started watching "BTOOOM!" and have been keeping up with it; I didnt think much at first but im really getting into it now. Its only on episode 9 currently, but i can see it become as engrossing as SAO. Same kind of feel except...overkill. In a good way. I like it.  :tup

I'm a huge fan of Shinsekai Yori, and the Robotics Notes I've seen so far is really good, but I've persuaded the anime/sci-fi society from the uni I went to to show Chuunibyou tonight (I live with two of the committee, so we're all going to rock up with ladels).

Cool shit, friended! I'm amazed by how much more anime/manga you, Genowyn, and others have read compared to me. Even taking into account stuff I plan to watch, I'm nowhere near you.

Anywho, the last few days I've been watching Urusei Yatsura. Silly aliens. The completionist in me is going berserk.

yeah but even then I still have tons of series I need to watch. (I still haven't seen some of the "classics" :lol )

But since this is my first (second whatever) post in here I guess I should give some more background to my experience with anime.

I've been watching on and off since 2009 (The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya being the first anime i ever saw/loved) but I took a long break until recently and now I've gotten back into watchnig anime more frequently.

my favorites right now are:

1. Steins;Gate
2. Mahou Shojo Madoka Magica
3. Fate/Zero
4. Darker Than Black (both seasons)
5. Anohana: That anime with the ridiculously long name

Like I said though I've only just now got back into watching anime so there's a lotta stuff I still need to watch.

Right now my highest priorities (at least in regards to what I'm planning to watch) are:

Chaos;head (even though i hear it's bad lol)
Cowboy Bebop
Toaru Majutsu No Index II
Serial Experiments Lain
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann

It's mostly huge amounts of QUALITY and pointless deviations from the original story that make it so bad. Sorta like the Fate/Stay Night anime.
