A-Kon was awesome and a lot of fun. We experienced so much over three days. If I were to talk about everything we did and saw it would take forever and would be TL;DR....

...so I'll just say that at one point, a single person in a room with at least 500 people randomly yelled as loud as he could "I WANNA BE, THE VERY BEST!"

By the fourth line of the song, the entire room was singing it in unison. I'm talking every single person on the ground floor of the hotel was singing the Pokemon theme song together. It was so goddamn beautiful, I almost cried. I think I would have if my friends weren't right next to me. It was such an awesome feeling of being around like-minded people, in an environment that encouraged everyone to be themselves without fear of ridicule.

There's no doubt you're doing it right! :tup

Feel like this is a better place to post than the video games thread, does anyone else play Touhou or any Visual Novels? I would love to talk about those. :D

Are visual novels available (legally and translated into English) outside of Japan?

Yes.

Of course many great VNs can only be obtained through illegitimate means, but many are fan translated.

Great resource for getting info on VNs: https://vndb.org/

I gotta say, it's almost misleading that the second season of Clannad is called "After Story." As far as I'm concerned, the second season is when the story truly begins.

I gotta say, it's almost misleading that the second season of Clannad is called "After Story." As far as I'm concerned, the second season is when the story truly begins.

The reason for that is because Clannad was originally a Visual Novel. Nagisa's actual route ends with the play, but after completing it you unlock After Story, which is separate from the rest of the game. Depending on how many routes you've completed AS either ends the way it does in the anime, or similarly but without the happy ending :lol

Or even worse, as I've seen on YouTube, you get the "Sunohara ending." ;)

The best "you couldn't decide on a girl so now you get this" ending I've seen in a VN is in Majikoi, where if you keep staying at home instead of going out you will fall in love with your pet hermit crabs.

Oh my... :lol

On a more serious note, small revelation I had today about Clannad: the reason it excels at evoking such emotional response from the fanbase is not so much due to how well-written the tearjerker moments are, but because of how it excels at placing the viewer in Tomoya's shoes, such that it really does feel like his life is my life. His tragedies feel like the viewer's tragedies.

My friends got me started on Hetalia Axis Powers. Mainly because there was a Q&A session at the convention where the cast answered questions in-character. It's a funny show from what I've seen so far.

Part of that comes from the fact that it was originally written as a game played from Okazaki's POV.

Well yeah, I mean I knew that. My point is that they did a really terrific job to that end. It's to the point where it doesn't even feel like 'outside looking in,' like it's really my life.

I didn't like how the 2nd half of the show focused more on romance instead of music. But, it was still an enjoyable show and it gets a 7/10 from me.

Fate/Zero's second half is still the show of the year.

I finished Tsuritama yesterday. The ending is so perfect and sums everything up fantastically; what a beautifully crafted and lovely little series. I usually don't go for the shorter series but this is one exception I'm happy to have watched; 12 episodes isn't a lot to have a grandiose story but they did that and more. It starts out as a slice of life 'fishing anime' and ends up something entirely different but still keeps the humor and laid back approach of its origin. Really great series, highly recommended.

If the romance was actually done well it wouldn't have been a problem!

Yeah, I've heared a lot of good things about Tsuritama. I will definitely start it soon now that it ended.

Too much melodrama. It was hard to take their relationships seriously with all the crying and whining.

Also, I thought the show could of used more episodes to develop the characters more. Adapting 9 volumes of a manga into a 12 episode series made everything seemed rushed.

Problems aside, 7/10 is a great score! Most anime wish they were that good!

I do agree with that. Although if you want melodrama, check out ToraDora! and Clannad. Not that it doesn't work in those, but it's certainly heaping helpings for both.

Little Busters! is one of my favorite visual novels, so I think it should be good. I'm a little worried that JC Staff is handling it, but they have done some good stuff (Raildex mostly).

Have you played it?

This is still a very early list, a lot of stuff is still coming. And the humorous parts of Little Busters are pretty slice-of-lifey, like Clannad (same company).

The routes are pretty depressing/disturbing in LB!, but the actual main story is not all that sad. (Unless they choose to leave it at the True End instead of the Good End).

No I haven't. I'm not exactly the biggest fan of Key, but I end up watching all their stuff anyway. At least KyoAni did a competent job on their adaptations and I don't expect much from JC Staff.
