Does anyone here watch Clannad? I got this guy on another forum insisting that I stick with it because he says it gets amazingly good, but it just doesn't grab me. In fact, a little more than one episode in and I think it's really lame. ToraDora! certainly set the bar high on art and animation, because this feels like such a step down, and the characters all seem really boring.

Clannad is one of the greatest animes ever made.

So yeah stick with it.

Edit: I'll warn you, Clannad is the only work of fiction to ever make me cry. It's really, really, really, REALLY depressing.

One of my housemates next year is planning to make me watch Clannad. From what I've heard, it's pretty damn good.
This is as exciting as superluminal neutrinos. The sexy thing is that this actually exists :D

Speaking of KEY/VisualArt's anime adaptations, I can't wait for the Little Busters! anime later this year. Really disappointed that KyoAni won't be handling it. Instead, we get JC Staff, which could either turn out pretty good (see: Raildex, Toradora) or exceptionally bad (see: Hidan no Aria). Fingers crossed...

This thread is a tease. Occasionally I'm scanning through and see BEBOP staring me in the face, and I think "Holy crap new Cowboy Bebop news!!! :caffeine:"

Thanks  :'(

In another bout of anime-related news, I just rewatched the Animatrix. I'd forgotten how fucked up some of these are. Not that I'm complaining.

Edit: Okay you guys are right, Clannad is pretty sad. :lol

I've been watching a new anime called Tsuritama and I am loving it so very much. It's adorable, the artwork and animation is splendid and compliments the vibe of the story, the voice actors (especially for Haru) are, per norm, very dedicated and perfectly cast. But it's the storyline and light-hearted tone of the show that I love the most. It's a fishing anime (which I've never watched before and had I known that beforehand I probably wouldn't have tuned in) with a twist in that an alien (who is physically no different than a human), Haru, forces the main character, Yuki, a ridiculously anti-social weirdo to help him catch a legendary fish. It doesn't sound too entertaining but it is all kinds of awesome. It always gives me a very good feeling while watching it and I haven't felt that in a while when watching any show, let alone an anime.

I recommend it to anyone who wants something different than the usual Shonen-based anime or for someone that usually watches serious and or darker-toned anime. But I really think almost anyone who watches anime could enjoy it. Tapioca FTW.

I'm not an anime fan at all, but two good friends are dragging me to an anime convention in Houston this summer. I'm going into it with a completely open mind - I expect to have fun and hopefully gain a more positive opinion of anime in general.

Yes it does, and now I've finished it all. Goddamn, what a thing.

I've completed three anime series over the last four months (about five or six over the last year); I think I need a break. :lol Although do tell about these two series.

Fate/Zero is the prequel to Fate/Stay Night, but you don't need to have played/read/seen FSN to enjoy it. The music, animation, and acting are all excellent. It has some great actions scenes and it's very well written. Very dark, and most of the characters can't be firmly slotted into "good guy" or "bad guy" (though some are definitely mostly bad guys). Even the character who is theoretically the protagonist is not heroic at all, and it's interesting to see him clash with the more heroic people around him. The story is about the Holy Grail War, an event where seven Magi gather in this one city where the Holy Grail appears, and summon Servants to battle over who gets to claim it. The Servants are all the spirits of legendary heroes and villains, and the really cool thing about F/0 is that many of the character arcs in the show parallel the backstories of the heroes. I'm sure I've posted this trailer before, but: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-7PFiut1HI

Hyouka is the new anime by KyoAni (the same people who made Clannad and Haruhi, among other things). It is about this guy who joins this club at his school because it had no members and his sister asked him to prevent it from being shut down. Being an anti-social kind of person he was fine with joining an empty club, but to his dismay some other people end up joining it too. Then the club starts spending their time solving mysteries around the school. The written is good, the animation is awesome (obviously)...it's just really good.

Man, there is a lot of decent/good anime airing this season:

Kids on The Slope
Fate/Zero 2
Lupin III: The Woman Called Fujiko Mine
Space Bros.
Hyouka
Eureka Seven Ao
Mysterious Girlfriend X
Tsuritama
Sankarea

So much anime, so little time.

I just made reference to Sakamichi no Apollon on my Modern East Asia final exam essay to describe one of the social aftereffects of defeat in WWII (in this case, the drenching of Japan in American culture).

It really was fantastic. Everything from the music to the animation was flawless

These scenes particularly stood out to me with how lively they look. These scenes were done by some one named Bahi JD and this was his debut on a tv anime series. His tumblr has some more of his work if you are interested.

Anyway, TIME TO WATCH FATE/ZERO 21!

That is some amazing animation but the 'C'MON!' movement by those characters has me in stitches.. mainly because it is so fantastically fluid. I'll check it out!

I'm also going to keep pushing Tsuritama on you mofos. You must at least check this series out or you'll be missing a large component of happiness in your life. It's true. I seen'd it. It's so wonderfully laid back at first, a simple slice of life anime with some very lovable characters and an interesting premise of a so-called alien named Haru and a very anti-social red-head named Yuki. Together, they discover something terrible lying in the depths of the ocean. While that isn't a spoiler considering it's the main premise of the show, it doesn't even present itself clearly as a plot point until about episode 5 and especially 6. They're just now on 7 with 8 being released next week and it is already one of my favorite anime. Truly, top 5 material; it's beautifully animated and has a lot of heart. The soundtrack is pretty awesome too.

Anyway, check it out or, y'know...die.

I wasn't really thrilled with the first episode of Sakamichi no Apollon...does it get better?

Also, is anyone watching Jormungand? I've only seen the first episode and I'm wondering if it's worth continuing...

Also, I have been watching Legend of the Legendary Heroes recently. Good stuff. At episode 15 or 16 I think.

Well, it is an adaptation of a Josei manga. I don't know if that bothers you or not, but I can't find much wrong with it.
It does things better than most anime imo.

This weekend was Anime North, new figures I got were:

Kuroneko ($40)
Zero Saber ($35)
Panty and Stocking ($31)

A-Kon was awesome and a lot of fun. We experienced so much over three days. If I were to talk about everything we did and saw it would take forever and would be TL;DR....

...so I'll just say that at one point, a single person in a room with at least 500 people randomly yelled as loud as he could "I WANNA BE, THE VERY BEST!"

By the fourth line of the song, the entire room was singing it in unison. I'm talking every single person on the ground floor of the hotel was singing the Pokemon theme song together. It was so goddamn beautiful, I almost cried. I think I would have if my friends weren't right next to me. It was such an awesome feeling of being around like-minded people, in an environment that encouraged everyone to be themselves without fear of ridicule.

Without having a lot of time lately to watch any anime, I have been really enjoying FMA.
