:lol Good luck, Volk. Your thought is the same as mine was when I started watching it. I finished the first season but didn't bother with the second. It was flashy, it was cool, the animation/voice acting/music (especially) were all outstanding; but without characters I give two shits about or a concrete storyline aside from any shallow beginnings, it's all for naught. It wasn't a bad series, I was just disappointed with the end result. Good show if you're not into any other series at the moment or a rainy day.

I disagree.

YESSSSSSSSSSS

It looks like there's a new Shinichiro Watanabe (Cowboy Bebop) anime airing in the spring called "Sakamichi no Apollon". It takes place in the 60's and it's about jazz and stuff.
Oh, and Yoko Kanno is doing the music.

https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2012-01-26/apollon-reunites-cowboy-bebop-director-composer-kanno

Aweeeeesome! That is all kinds of sexy.

I'll be honest, I havent watched it in a while :lol

Like, its cool, the animation and action is sweet, but I just dont feel any sort of connection to the characters, nor do I know any of their motivations. I think the last one that I watched was episode 7, and I just havent felt an urge to go back.

I'll probably go back eventually, but I dont have a desire to at this point.

I just watched 8th MS Team, Gundam Wing and G Gundam...

Its amazing how fucking juvenile these shows are 10-12 years later.

Are there animes with more adult themes, but incredibly violent? I don't mean like tits and fucking, I mean like...adult issues. Shit that feels like you need to be 18 and older to fucking relate with.

Elfen Lied is incredibly violent and has adult themes, but it has a lot of nudity in it. Kara no Kyoukai is pretty violent and has adult themes, but one of the movies has a rape scene in it. Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni is very violent, but I'm not sure if I would necessarily say there are any adult themes in it, the main theme of it is basically "Screw Destiny".

I think the hard part of watching an anime is realizing it's a cartoon. Like, I used to really enjoy them in my youth, but now they're just hard to watch. I still enjoy Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo. Princess Mononoke, Howl's Moving Castle and Spirited Away are all great as well. But, some venture into the really bizarre or are just kid shit.

Berserk, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex and Satoshi Kon's movies are pretty adultish, imo.

Yes, I concur wholeheartedly. The anime is an abomination; not to mention that an actual dedicated, badass studio is making feature length movies that look so fucking sexy. They're also covering the entire series (the "Golden Age", first major story arc in the first three movies over a period of a handful of years and the rest at an undisclosed time throughout the rest of the manga series). The manga is fucking badass and delectable.

Hm. I thought it looked great. It isn't entirely CGI, obviously, it's an overlay filter (which I prefer they didn't use at all but those Japanese gotta be fancy). I know what you mean though, the backgrounds looks fantastic though, as do the colors; mainly because they don't look like that.. But with Zod (the big-ass minotaur), you can really tell, and I can see why they'd do that so the animation is more fluid, it just won't look as artistic. I'm glad the whole structure isn't CGI though, it seems it's just the skeletal form that's CGI. Either way, I like it; I'll definitely be trying to see this one in theaters, even if I have to travel.

Nisemonogatari 8

It never ceases to amaze me how how creepy Shaft can get. And while this particular scene was kind of funny, they have already wasted a lot of time on unnecessary fanservice.
It's a shame because I was really looking forward to Nisemonogatari.

What pisses me off more is that anime fans eat this shit up:
Quote
Best episode of any anime ever, I can't wait to brush my teeth.
Quote
The sexy scenes are back with a hint of incest, what more could we ask for? Although I was thinking that it was going to be all Karen in this episode, at least we got to see the other one.
Quote
This episode was amazing, I wish to brush Karen's teeth.
Quote
That was by far the best Fanservice episode of the Monogatari Franchise..

OMG, i freakin loved each second of this episode.. Karen is hella hot, there is a chance that she can be as hot as Senjougahara.. im totally speechless and still debating with myself if i should put Karen as one of my favorite characters.

Oh my GOD the amount of incest in this episode djfhgbdfsjnhfxgkh.xfj

Yeahhh.. I love anime and manga (manga so much more, unnecessaryFYI) as much as the next Otaku, but that stuff is just fucked. I mean, I'm a pretty fucked human being, in almost every way I am skewed and perverse; but even my fucked up mind doesn't get anything out of the insane shit that the Japanese fap their lil peeners to. There's just no other way to put it: It's FUBAR.

On a side note: I am LOVING the old school Pokemon Adventures manga. The main characters name is...Red. Fuck yes. You can't get more classic than that; also, Gary's name is Blue. Whoa now. But seriously fuck the newer Pokemon. They suck dick, they're boring and bland and if I lived in a world of loser Pokemon like that, I'd become the President of Team Rocket and butt fuck every single Pokemon alive; then I'd farm them for their precious body parts.

Also, D. Grey-Man is badass, and I'm getting into Bakuman. Other than that...all quiet on the anime front.

Monster. Not particularly violent, but it is a very adult narrative.

Monster is a very good anime and is indeed geared toward an older audience. I don't know if it has an anime, but there's a manga I've been reading called Homunculous and it's extremely violent and anyone below the age of 20 couldn't relate or understand the issues and underlying message presented throughout the series. Even if there isn't an anime I highly recommend reading it, maybe it'll get you into manga if you're not already.

On the anime front, I've begun watching a fairly new show called Accel World. I'm really into virtual worlds in which the protagonist lives in the 'real' world and is then somehow thrust into a virtual universe of sorts, so this was right up my ally. Very funny and innocent in its way, I really like it so far; I also like the main character's voice actor a lot. But it'll be nice to finally have an anime after so long that I can keep up with and anticipate its release instead of plowing through it like I have so many others that aren't airing anymore. There's something about that wait in between episodes that makes it all that much sweeter.

I'm kind of in a slump in my manga. I've been reading a really, really gory and fucked up series called Corpse Party, and it's fucking awesomely disgusting. I love it; it's a bunch of kids dying and roaming throughout a school and all the little assholes that you root to die do end up dying in some crazy ways. But it's pretty much the only manga I'm reading right now and it's one of those series that comes out like once every few months so...it's been pretty dull in the world of all things Japanese. I'm think I'm going to go back through this thread and check some stuff out!

Toradora! was very interesting. I was glad to watch a pseudo-slice of life for a change, as I've grown tired of the more action-packed shonen. The way they went from romantic comedy to drama, the ways in which the series got darker and edgier in such subtle ways really surprised and pleased me; it literally snuck up on me. The relationship plotline aside, the later episodes especially really piqued my interest because it made me think of where I was in life and about my friends, family and relationships. I would recommend it for sure, even though it's probably pretty mild by most people's tastes here.

I'm especially loving their jam session in the 2nd episode. This is gonna be such a pleasing series, if only because of the music being totally top-of-the-line.
