No, it's completely true.

i guess the caught in a web, the  mary jane samples, and emmm thats all
I imagined the story to go more like this.

I was sitting a traffic light blaring Space Dye Vest and next to me in another car was Kevin Moore. And I'll never be open again.

It has been stated before and I will state it now. Awake is a concept album about Spider Man.

Indeed it is, allow me to explain to you the story Awake is trying to tell:

6:00 - Through the metaphor of a blue collar worker, the song tells the story of Peter Parker, having been bit by the spider, trying to decide whether to embrace his power to be a superhero, or go back to his normal life as a college student. Peter's aunt lecturing Mary Jane symbolizes the turmoil in the world Peter is potentially facing himself against.
Caught in a Web - Should be obvious
Innocence Faded - Having fully embraced his role as Spiderman, Peter's relationships with his friends degenerate. However, hope lays around the corner.
Erotomania - An instrumental about Mary Jane
Voices - This song takes Peter Parker to a level rarely explored in the comics and movies. Having taken to bed with MJ, Voices explores Peter's mind as it works through the inner conflict of love vs. being a superhero. Is MJ a devil in disguise, trying to distract him from his duties? Is the world necessarily worth saving?
The Silent Man - Peter has trouble dealing with his personal conflicts, so he becomes more emotionally withdrawn from Mary Jane.
The Mirror - And throws himself completely into his role as Spiderman. The Mirror details how he uses his persona as Spiderman to emotionally abuse Mary Jane. Instead of intimacy, he leaves to fight crime. When he gets perhaps too intimate with a woman he saves, he talks about how it's necessary to make him liked by the public. Peter knows he can never do this to Mary Jane again.
Lie - Unfortunately, rather than subject Mary Jane to his personal deficiencies, he decides to break up with her and date Gwen Stacy. The relationship did not end well, as the lyrics make plainly clear.
Lifting Shadows Off a Dream - Peter and Mary Jane reconcile their relationship. Mary Jane is able to truly accept Peter for who he is, and Peter is finally able to realize that.
Scarred - Using the metaphor of one's relationship with a parent or sibling, in fact this is a song about Peter's relationship to New York City itself. Set years after Lifting Shadows, the song reflects the anger Peter has developed toward his beloved city, which shows him love with cheering crowds, but then has newspapers and cops that want to defame Spiderman.
Space Dye Vest - A complex piece of lyricism. While Parker and MJ love each other, they have lived lives separate from each other. Peter is more likely to see one of her pictures as a clothing model than he is to see her in real life. Many of his nights are spent sitting at home, by himself, watching movies and TV. Because he's barely able to display emotion toward the true love of his life, he's found himself unable to even display emotion to the grateful people he saves. "I will never be open again," closes out a story of a man granted profound power, who was unable to emotionally bear the great responsibilities that came with it.

Doesn't it synchronize to the first Spider-man movie with Tobey Maguire?

Hey you know... spiders have 8 legs... Octavarium is the sequel to Awake.

Notice the piano at the end of Space Dye Vest and the start of The Root Of All Evil.

I always wondered this, but never actually believed that this is true.  I guess the samples at the start of 6:00 make it quite clear.

Dr. Octopus? Octavarium? The root of all evil? Think about it and tell me there's no connection.

Spiderman?? Awake is obviously about Harry Potter:

Caught In A Web (about Hagrid's mega spiders)
Innocence Faded (about Voldemort's youth and rise to power)
Voices (about when Harry starts hearing voices in the Chamber of Secrets)
The Silent Man (about professor Snape who can perform spells without talking)
The Mirror (two way mirror in order of the phoenix)
Lie (about Harry's parents)
Lifting Shadows Off A Dream (referring to Harry's frequently recurring dream in which his parents are killed and his quest to find out what really happened)
Scarred (referring to his forehead, ofcourse)
Space Dye Vest (invisibility cloak)

Also, Harry and Awake are both 5-letter words.

There's also plenty of references to villains he would be fighting throughout the album.

From Scarred
Can't let them rape me again
Your venom's not family here

Lifting Shadows off a Dream:
He pours his soul into the water
reflecting the mystery

This is of course referring to Mysterio

Voices:
The spider in the window
That's a pretty obvious reference

And perhaps the best example of all:
Seen my diary on the newsstand
Seems we've lost the truth to quicksand

This one talks about after his battles with Sandman he sees himself and his life published on the Daily Bugle

This is what happens when you mix Sci-Fi, Music, and weed.  Nerds go haywire with these theories.  I wonder what would happen is you play Awake backwards,  J. Jonas Jammison goes off on a tangent? ;D
