The Choose-The-Best-Guitar-Solo-From-Each-Album Thead.
« on: March 21, 2010, 04:52:03 PM »
I thought we should do a thread where we choose our favourite Petrucci solo from each album. I'll start:

WDADU: Afterlife
I&W: Learning to Live (the one after WOOOAAAAAAAAAHHHH)
Awake: Erotomania 1:41
FII: Lines in the Sand
SFAM: The Spirit Carries On
6DOIT: The Glass Prison arpeggios
TOT: As I Am
8VM: Razor's Edge
SC: In the Presence of Enemies Part.1    2:09
BC&SL: tough choice between TBOT and TCOT... but gotta go with The Count on this one.

Okay your turn

When Dream and Day Unite: sorry... don't remember right now, nothing that I found really memorable
Images & Words: Learning to Live ending solo
Awake: probably Voices, tough choice
Falling Into Infinity: Hell's Kitchen or Lines in the Sand
Scenes from a Memory: surprise! Home, but Finally Free (after "we fade away") and The Spirit Carries on are very close
Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence: About to Crash/Goodnight Kiss
Train of Thought: obviously, In The Name of God (the insanely fast one ending the instrumental section)
Octavarium: Sacrificed Sons/Razor's Edge
Systematic Chaos: The Ministry of Lost Souls ending solo, my all-time favourite DT solo
Black Clouds & Silver Linings: tough one, The Best of Times ending solo, A Rite of Passage solo, A Nightmare to Remember short solo after "I'm not one to soon forget..."

Honorable non-album mention: Raise The Knife from Score, it's AMAZING.

Hmm, this probably isn't final

WDADU- Ytse Jam
IaW- I would say Metropolis, but thats more of the entire instrumental part. UAGM is the classic one though, but I really like Another Day
Awake- Erotomania or The Silent Man, short but sweet
FII- Trial of Tears definitely. LITS is the classic here, but Petrucci playing like Holdsworth?  :hefdaddy
SFAM- pretty any time Petrucci plays the main melody, like in Overture 1928 and One Last Time, FF etc. But TSCO is probably the best
6DOIT- Goodnight Kiss without a doubt.
TOT- SOC
8VM- Razors Edge
SC- ITPOE
BCSL- The Best of Times or the epic ambient part in TCOT
We are a way for the universe to know itself.
 I suffer from moderate/severe Depersonalization.

u know its sad because i consider myself a huge DT fan, but with WDADU:  ah all his tapping guitar solos... ill go a fortune in lies
I&W: under a glass moon ( i was told in high school to go and try and play this on guitar, got me into DT)
awake: ah its between innocence faded or scarred
FII: trial of tears
SFAM: the spirit carries on
SDoIT: blind faith including the ending unison
ToT:  As i Am, i would take SoC too
8vm: this album in particular he took a backseat with soloing but i'd go with razor's edge on 8vm
SC: i still love Constant motion guitar solo... id pick ItPoE pt 1 but all those leads are unison
BCaSL: this album is still kind of going through a listening phase even after almost a year, but between  tBoT and TSF

It's hard to pick a solo from that album beacause IMO, it is the weakest JP-solo album.

Even though Awake is my second favourite and agreed on Voices, I think I have to agree with him. That is, maybe not "weakest", but simply it has the least focus on guitar solos.
