Been a fan of Edguy for a few years now and just began my first Avantasia spin, chose to start with The Scarecrow pretty much because it always gets nothing but praise. I don't know why I've never listened to this before, I guess the idea of multiple vocalists used to put me off but it's actually really cool now that I'm listening to it.

Well, I got my first Avantasia album a couple of weeks ago. Wicked Symphony.
It's really not bad at all. Obviously I love the Kiske sung Wastelands, but to me, the best track on the album is Scales Of Justic. Ripper just..well..RIPS! :metal

Also, quite surprised to see Bruce Kulick and Eric Singer involved. Didin't realize that they were part of the European Power Metal "family".

This, I need to listen to wicked symphony again, been too long.
I don't know how they can be so proud of winning with them odds. - Little Big Man

Thanks Nick - sorry for that fail.  :lol

Anyway, to repeat what I had said: I just watched their farewell concert from Wacken again. Great show and I'm kinda sad that they stopped being active, especially because I would have loved to see them live once.

Much like Ayreon, that's a dream only a Euro can hold. Once you add in all the extra singers it would be pretty much impossible to tour America. But I do hope Avantasia tours again, and that Ayreon does do a few live shows at some point.

I don't see why Tobi wouldn't bring Avantasia to the stage again, especially after the good comments and success over the last two.  Plus, comparing those to the latest Edguy is like comparing shit and chocolate, that was very ordinary.

Yeah, well I wouldn't mind, personally, because I am from Germany and I think that it would be given that they would play in Germany. But I can see how it wouldn't be financially feasible to tour outside of Europe.

Hell yes, I hope so. They haven't done an album that I dislike (Avantasia that is), so no complaints from me here.

It's been starting since Rocket Ride (even though that's a good album) and has been gettin worse ever since.

I have Hellfire Club in my possession from when I bought it based upon a recommendation about seven years ago.  I was 14-15.  I really liked it then.

I really don't like it now.  I just listened to like three minutes of Mysteria and I was sad that I ever liked it as much as I did.  Power metal use to be my jam.  Now I can't stand any of it.

Mysteria is quite simply one of the greatest metal songs ever written in my opinion. So I definitely gotta disagree with you there man. :metal :metal

Love Edguy (Mandrake and Hellfire Club mostly) but still need to check out Avantasia (I do like a few songs off of The Wicked Symphony though)

Do it. Start with The Scarecrow, one of the best power metal albums of all time.

I'll second that. The first album is a corker too.

Listened to Joker again today and enjoyed it whilst it was playing. As soon as it was over I couldn't remember a single chorus or part. On the good side, Rocket Ride was like that for me and I love it now.

The Flying Opera just arrived in the mail today.  I've seen the YT version, but it was awfully static-y.  Can't wait for everyone to leave tomorrow so I can crank the surround sound and watch for a bit.

From Tobias' website.

Quote
NEW AVANTASIA EPIC IN THE MAKING!
What many have recently been speculating about we're now happy to confirm. Tobias is indeed working on a new AVANTASIA epic that is planned to be released in spring 2013. Concept wise the album will be a classic Rock-Opera / Metal Opera. It's going to be a timeless fairytale, that despite its fantasy appeal, was inspired by happenings of our modern age and society. You‘ll find plenty of further details here at tobiassammet.com in the near future.

Originally Tobias wanted to lay AVANTASIA to rest after the release of its live DVD "Flying Opera" in April 2011, which topped the charts in Germany, Austria and Sweden and went Top 10 all over Europe, respectively after its headliner appearance at Wacken Open Air 2011 in front of more than 100,000 fans. About the surprising return of AVANTASIA Tobias says:

"Even though I love to record and tour with Edguy, I didn‘t foresee how much I need AVANTASIA when I decided to finish this chapter of my life in 2011. I didn't know if there would be another AVANTASIA album one day, but I didn‘t feel like doing it. After the worldwide success of the latest studio releases, an arena world tour that was sold out pretty much everywhere, collaborations with childhood heroes like Alice Cooper, Klaus Meine, Rudolf Schenker, Eric Singer of Kiss etc. I 'knew' that I had said everything I could possibly say in the name of AVANTASIA. But that's not what AVANTASIA is all about. I wanna create more great music, I wanna create more fantasy-worlds, the bigger and the more epic, the better. And listening to the material that I have created for this forthcoming chapter in the history of AVANTASIA, I know there is no way, I am not going to do it! I have got the feeling and the certainty, that this is absolutely meant to happen and to be! - Cheerz, Tobi"

When Avantasia first started, both bands were pretty equal in quality, just Avantasia was always a little more exciting.  Now, Edguy are on the decline, while Avantasia are the total opposite.

There's no reason why Edguy needs to be the poor cousin other than Toby must be saving the better songs for Avantasia. The bands' styles are similar, the musicians up to the job. The only real difference is the concept and the fact that Toby sings everything with Edguy.

I'm quite happy with both to exist but the Edguy album needs to have the same "love" put into it or that will change.

AVANTASIA TO HIT THE STAGE IN APRIL 2013
Tobias' tour management is currently working on a headlining indoor tour for Avantasia in April. They will also play a few chosen summer festivals, and a South American and Asian tour is planned for late summer.

Tobias comments: "I know I once said we weren't gonna do it again, but then I don‘t see a reason to let this die.  I wanna put on the biggest thing you have ever seen, I wanna bring more vocalists, play longer shows, and just make it a giant Rock Opera. I love to headline festivals, you run over people in 90 minutes and kick ass. But I also like to do our own Avantasia indoor tour because we can make it much more Avantasia oriented and play almost three hours without caring about anything else but Avantasia. So we said, we have to do a giant indoor tour as well, and it's going to happen in April. I am so looking forward to it. The stage designer has just showed me his stage and light design, and it looks absolutely killer.  It will be huge. 2013 will be a major year for Avantasia, and people don't have a clue how big things are actually going to be! I am very excited - the album will be amazingly epic, and the tour will be too!"

Tourdates will be announced soon here at tobiassammet.com!

I can only pray that there's something for North America... but I highly doubt it.  And that will make me rage!

AVANTASIA LIVE IN FRANCE
Good news again: AVANTASIA are confirmed to play their first ever show in France! Amongst bands such as KISS, Korn and Twisted Sister, AVANTASIA will hit the stage at Hellfest in Clisson to play a 90-minutes headlining show!

Tobias comments: "It's amazing. We are working on this great album which is scheduled to be out in late March by the way, and I have such a great feeling about it as the first tracks sound really huge. Now, we have announced that we'll do a little tour and all of the sudden we're getting the opportunity to headline shows and festivals all over the world! Czech Republic, England, France, Belgium... A lot of first time AVANTASIA appearances. But this is not it! More dates are being scheduled. In April we'll do Europe. Our own tour, doing 2 - 3 hours! No support act, just AVANTASIA in arenas and theaters. Further information and dates coming soon."

To make sure you don't miss an announcement before the shows sell out, sign up for the "Backstage-Section" above and subscribe to the newsletter! Next we're going to announce more details about the forthcoming album! Stay tuned!

"Our own tour, doing 2 - 3 hours! No support act, just AVANTASIA in arenas and theaters."    :omg:  Seriously... gonna rage if there's nothing in NA.
