An amnesiac who hasn't listened to DT in a VERY long time
« on: March 17, 2010, 06:04:21 AM »
Ok, so for one reason or another I haven't listened to DT for a very long time

Have recently started listening again, and need to find all my favourite tracks again.

I have listened to recently, and re-fallen in love with:

The Great Debate
6DoIT (CD2)
Metropolis
Lie
Octavarium

But I'm a fussy b*stard, and what's more, there is lots of DT songs I don't like. Can anyone recommend songs in the same vein as the above, so I can go straight to them. (My time contraints don't allow me the luxury of listening to all of the albums all of the way through)

Many thanks

Hope you are all well

Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes From a Memory

Yes, it's a whole album, but it's a damn good album, and it shares many qualities with the songs listed above. Though, it'd be a lot easier to decide if you told us WHAT you like about the songs.
Orion....that's the one with a bunch of power chords and boringly harsh vocals, isn't it?
LOOK AT THIS AWESOME SHIT AHHHHHH

Everything from "Another Won" to "The Count of Tuscany"... It's the ONLY way.

(And yes, I mean every song the band has written from 1985 to 2009.)

Even though this is the least helpful post in the entire thread, it's a nice one that I really approve of.

On the other hand! Based on the OP's tastes...

You seem to really like the epic stuff - in mood as well as length (6DOIT, Metropolis, Octavarium) - and the slightly modern stuff; The Great Debate particularly having a bit of a futuristic synthy edge.

So on that basis, I'd say The Count of Tuscany is probably a must (and the closest you'll get to a bastard child of Six Degrees, Metropolis, Lie, The Great Debate and Octavarium!). Erotomania is quite a good kinda... hybrid between Metropolis and Lie, almost. The technicality of Metropolis but it's got a kinda straight-forward rockin' style to it, and some really memorable melodies. It's probably worth giving The Mirror a spin, too, as it's Lie's slightly-older sister, although it's not nearly as catchy as any of the other songs you've enjoyed. Aaaand, Blind Faith always kinda falls into a similar "genre" of DT song, for me.

So, yeah. The Count of Tuscany, Erotomania, Blind Faith, and possibly The Mirror. Seems a good way to continue.
