Ok...amazon.com is PO'ing me. They don't explicitly say which version is the Special Edition, but both are listed as being 2 CD's. Granted, one is a dollar more, and I should expect that to be the special edition, but it doesn't say anything on either page. Here are the pages by the way:

Amazon is notorious for completely botching album descriptions when there are different editions. All I can say is good luck, and I feel your pain.

I asked my local CD store, and they didn't expect it to be in stores tomorrow.

I can say though that I know someone who has a promo copy, and he asked if I came over and listened to it...

The problem is that every three minutes the music stops and a low american voice says:

"You are listening to a promo copy of the new Transatlantic album, called The Whirlwind"

and that is what bothers me, I think I'll listen today though.

Can't wait to get this. Part of me hopes it shipped early and will get here today or tomorrow. Part of me doesn't care, since I have the new Redemption to continue to sink my teeth into. But on that note, and at risk of going slightly off topic, what an amazingly strong end to the year in terms of music releases! Between BCSL, Snowfall, and Whirlwind, I can't remember a better trifecta of albums in such a short span of time. (not to mention all the other good-to-excellent releases from other bands)

Wow, I listened to the demo tonight, and it sounds really good. I tried not to have any expectations, but I think I would have been impressed by this no matter what. Great sound, a lot of cool instrumentals, some songs, all pretty much mashed up together, then spread out nicely. And every few minutes, the voice.

I am definitely picking this up when it comes out. Two thumbs up.

Listening to it right now (how convenient to have a brother in Europe

). Hmm, I'm on track 6, but so far nothing that really grabbed my attention. One thing I noticed with this album, and that didn't really happen with the previous ones is, the respective sides shine through very strongly. So, you have sections that sound straight like Neal Morse, and sections that sound like Flower Kings.

Didn't happen with the previous ones?! Wow I completely disagree, I'd have said maybe 80% of the original music across the first two albums was very clearly either Morse or Stolt.

Yeah, I don't know, but I never had the impression that the music was "taken over" by each respective musician. On this album that seems to happen quite noticeably. I'm just listening to a section where the lyrics are "dancing with eternal glory" and about the "giver of life", and it just straight sounds like a Neal Morse religious song.

Again, half of Morse's lyrics on the first two albums had pretty strong religious undertones.

Sounds to me like it's pretty much more of the same, which is excellent, because the first two albums are really good

Good album, but nowhere near Bridge Across Forever (not that I expected it to be). A few tracks stand out from the rest, and there are some great moments here and there. The second-to-last track (can't remember the name) is by FAR my least favorite; I don't like the first half of it at all, although the last few minutes of instrumental stuff are pretty good.
