Todd la Torre is nailing notes that Geoff Tate has been chasing for years. Wow.

Uh huh... and he's been doing it for 14 months now.  I so wish I was there, and seriously tried to figure out how I could get down.  Alas, 3 straight weeks of work travel (now 4 with a couple days away coming up this week unexpectedly) aren't helping my cause.  I could hardly come home at 10 on Thursday night, then say "Bye, I'm off to a music festival in PA" first thing Friday morning.

Next year perhaps... it better be as good a lineup.

Looking forward to your update Coz!

Can't wait for the review/summary next week.
That's a word salad - and take it from me, I know word salad
I fear for the day when something happens on the right that is SO nuts that even Stadler says "That's crazy".

The 7th annual M3 Rock Festival is back, May 1-2.  The lineup is as follows:

Some interesting acts, for certain, but a number of acts I'm stoked to see.

Festivals can be SO hit and miss, even if the genre is one that I like a lot of bands from.  But this is pretty good.  If I were going, there are 3 bands I would like to see on day 1 and 6 on day 2.  Interesting that there doesn't seem to be a true "heavy hitter" in the lineup though.  The headliners each day don't really overwhelm me.

Well, Friday is always Kix headlining.  They call it the M3 Kix-Off party.  Except last year (I think?) when WASP headlined.  Apparently WASP refused to play second fiddle to Kix and would only play if they headlined Friday night (from what I heard, anyway).  Europe I scratch my head about a little, but that's okay.  Still a good lineup.

Regarding Dio Disciples, from their FB page:

Quote
Dio Disciples features Ronnie James Dio's Band Mates and Friends and is comprised of singers Mark Boals (Yngwie Malmsteen) and Oni Logan (Lynch Mob), guitarist Craig Goldy (Dio), bassist Bjorn Englen (Yngwie Malmsteen), keyboardist Scott Warren (Dio, Heaven & Hell), and drummer Simon Wright (Dio, AC/DC, UFO).

Every year has a handful of bands that I'm really grateful for the chance to see.  Getting to see EzN and Night Ranger back to back in 2012 was a real treat.  I'm really, really hoping tht SOMEHOW, Don Dokken has rehabbed his voice and sings the songs instead of making the crowd sing them.

I hadn't realized that about Kix.  Fair enough reason for them to headline on Friday then.  I hear you about Don.  And I doubt he will be much better.  You gotta just go in with low expectations, I guess.  I listed them as one of the bands I would like to see, but I know full well that the performance is likely to suck.  :dunno:

Day 2 is interesting.  I can make an argument for why a couple of those bands could be the headliner over Europe, but I can't really make a strong argument that they really have to be.  If Jani were still alive, I think there would be a good argument for Warrant.  But when a band's signature front man has moved on, I have a hard time arguing for them.  As much as I love Y&T, they simply weren't as popular.  If Tom were playing with Cinderella, I think they would be a slam dunk.  But Tom solo?  No.  Krokus?  L.A. Guns?  See Y&T reasoning.  Queensryche is really the only band I can make a decent argument for.

I can't argue with any of that, really.  Our first year going (2010), Cinderella was next to last.  They completely stole the show.  So freakin' good.  Scorpions headlined that year, but Klaus was sick and could barely sing.  Not to mention, they played a lot of songs that your average Scorpions radio-listener likely wouldn't be familiar with.  Warrant has been excellent every time, and as noted, Mason is an excellent singer.  LA Guns - brings it every time.  I'm stoked I finally get to see Y&T.

I hope Y&T brings it.  I haven't seen them in years now, so I have no idea how they are.  I know that despite taking great care of his voice, it seemed like age was finally catching up with Dave in recent years.  But not sure.  I think you are at least likely to get a "very good" performance, if not better than that.

I have no doubt.  I'm really looking forward to seeing them.  Also REALLY stoked to see the Winery Dogs, especially after them having been in Lancaster (about a 40-ish minute drive) a year or so ago on a date I couldn't make it.

Well, if this recent vid is any indication, Y&T are in good form:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6AqgLsXgCM

Yeah, I hear you on Winery Dogs.  I would be pretty stoked to see them as part of a festival like this too.

It does look a bit weird having Kix above the names Dokken and Quiet Riot but given the state of the various bands I can understand why (even before any tradition involved).

I would definitely have Europe headlining the second day based on that lineup.  Again - given that Queensryche is in transition and re-establishing themselves (and were probably no bigger in their heyday anyway) - I can't see any bands there that should be above Europe in the pecking order.

Personally I'm a big Europe fan but haven't enjoyed anything much since Norum's return and their move to a more downtuned/70's sound.  These days I'd be most interested in seeing Queensryche, Y&T, Tyketto and Killer Dwarfs from that lineup.   In their heyday Europe,Dokken and Warrant (and less so Quiet Riot/LA Guns and Krokus) would be a big draw for me but not so much now.

Okay, so I'm trying to familiarize myself with some of the bands I don't know as well.  I listened to a few songs from Rhino Bucket's first album and it feels like I unearthed lost AC/DC / Bon Scott material.

Lots of old favorites at this gig. I'll tell you who I'd like to see do one of these festivals...Saraya! Their first 2 albums were great.

If you haven't already Cozmo , check out Dirty Weapons..........their best album by a fair way IMHO.  Got a mention in my Top 50 runners up.

Perusing some of their recent setlists, I checked out a handful of them, and form Dirty Weapons, I heard the title track and Comin' Through.  I'll give the rest of it a listen, I'm sure I won't be disappointed.  The full album for "Big Deal" was on YouTube, so I listened to that also.  Not bad, but I'll definitely check out Dirty Weapons.

Not sure if it'll be your cup of tea but the best tracks (IMO) are linked to from there.

It's what I expected, which isn't bad by any stretch. Not sure why I never got into them back in the day. Was definitely aware of them.
I guess there's only so many bands...
I have certainly heard worse.

2016 lineup announced.  Looks good to me.  A lot more bands on Friday this year and Kix is NOT headlining Friday night, which is out of the ordinary.  It's going to be a much earlier Friday start.

He's off doing a solo thing.  Did a whole double album of his own stuff (Unsurprisingly, called "The White Album") that was a serious departure from the EZN vibe, but more down the loung-ey, Beatles-ish kinda thing he seems to be into.
