New solo albums from JLB and JP
« on: February 16, 2010, 11:06:55 PM »
From what I've gathered reading a few threads here, JLB and JP are going to be working on their respective new solo albums this year. Personally I think this is great news since EOP and SA were great albums and were just as, if not more, enjoyable than the last few DT albums.   Does anyone have anymore info on this?

James said in an interview somewhere that his solo album will be out around may or june I believe. Looking forward to what james and john have to put out this time. I was impressed by their previous ones, and these won't disappoint

I agree that Suspended Animation was kind of weak. But then again, I think LaBrie's first two solo albums were pretty weak as well.

Although I clearly disagree with that statement, I think Elements of Persuasion was a pretty decent/surprising album I enjoyed very much.
I haven´t actually purchased Suspended Animation but I´ve watched videos, especially Glasgow Kiss and it doesn´t sound that good (but you can argue I´ve never actually heard the whole thing). It might be a very enjoyable album for guitar players though, what I´ve seen seems VERY technical.

I´m very excited for possible releases though, especially James´project.

Well, I think his first Mullmuzzler was by far the best. Didn't like EoP.

Me too, but I can understand those who don't. On first listen I thought it was a bit plain, and was expecting something a bit more LTE-like, with keyboards. But after a few listens I realized it remains quite interesting. Lots of cool riffing, and melodic soloing, with nowhere near as much shred as I expected, and a fair bit of variety.

Yep. I think the only party in the MP/DT situation that hasn't moved on is DTF.

Looking forward to James' album, don't care that much about JP's. So far JLB hasn't disappointed me with his solo material and I've loved each album he released. I've got high hopes for this one.

I liked Suspended Animation and look forward to JP's next solo album.  I haven't heard any of JLB's solo stuff.  I'm more into instrumental stuff.

Yahoo Babelfish:

ave you plans to publish an album soloist?

Yes, after which the tour finishes, I will enter the recording studio to work in my new disc soloist. I am very contented, will be a rock-metal disc, music is powerful. The disc is as an encounter between Soilwork and Sevendust. Excellent musicians will participate, among them Matt Gillory that helped me to compose all the subjects.

Interesting to know that to you it likes music of Soilwork. Then its form to sing will be very aggressive?

You can bet that yes, my voice will be very aggressive, is something different and another facet of my work like singer. Soilwork seems to me an excellent band, do a work interesting.

This is from an interview with James for a Venezuelan newspaper. I find it very interesting that James refers to Soilwork, a melodic death metal band, and i'm really curious to see what direction the new album will follow...

From the JLB forum: (and MP's https://www.mikeportnoy.com/forum/m2499413.aspx)

Hey Everyone,

You are all correct to speculate on a new solo disc. You bet your ass we ( Matt and I ) are to begin recording on March 4th. I of course will be on tour but will be in contact with Matt daily while instruments are layed down. We are extremely psyched and can't wait for everyone to hear the new music. It is brutal, very heavy along the likes of Soilwork and Sevendust. I will follow this up shortly with a lot more detail on the players, studio location and time line for the release. I will begin my vocals mid-April.

Cheers and clear the wax from your ears.

James.

Well I hate Soilwork/Sevendust/Theyreallthesame. But hopefully he just means it's heavy, which is good, because EoP was good. I can't wait.

I'm only familiar with Sevendust. But I for one would love it is as musically diverse as Sevendust. Not too many bands incorporate the kind of crushing riffage with soulful melody that they do.

I'm a fan of Marco Sfogli, and look what he posted on his Facebook page:
Quote
Marco will be going to Varberg, Sweden next week to record the follow-up to James LaBrie's 2005 release, Elements Of Persuasion. Lineup is: James LaBrie (vocals), Matt Guillory (keyboards), Marco Sfogli (guitar), Ray Riendeau (bass), and Peter Wildoer (drums). The album will be recorded by Johan Örnborg, mix and mastered by Jens Bogren, and produced by Matt Guillory and James LaBrie

Possibly, if they use the old Soilwork (Chainheart Machine for example) as the template. But I'm 100% sure it will be the latest nu-metal version.  ::)

JLB's 1st Mullmuzzler was pretty good. 2nd one was fail. EoP is his best to date. I really enjoyed it as I listen to it at least once a week.

JP's SA was pretty sorry. I hate to say that but really, nothing memorable about that solo effort. I'm glad he puts most of his good stuff in DT material and LTE. And compared to Vai, Satriani, and Johnson, JP's solo effort is sub-par at best.
