Psychotic Waltz(amazing pioneers of technical metal)
« on: February 09, 2010, 08:04:25 PM »
These guys are incredible. I'm only totally familiar with their 1990 debut A Social Grace but I've listened to around half of their remaining body of work for the last six years and love the way they sound even on more rock-oriented albums like 1994's Mosquito.

I strongly recommend checking out And the Devil Cried which is the opener on the debut album as well as A Psychotic Waltz.

I believe they were based out of San Diego. Not sure how close that is to Escondido but you're probably correct.

Doubtful. Someone on youtube replied to one of my comments on some related artist's(Spiral Architect perhaps) video and after a few back and forth comments he said that PW was getting back together and I asked him for a URL so I could read up/stay posted. Either he didn't understand my clearly-stated request or was using vagueness to perpetuate a rumor since his replies were only like "yeah they're getting back together" and other similar phrases without ever giving anything concrete.

I wouldn't rule it out though since we got another record outta Cynic(definitely no Focus in my book) and Atheist also got back together for Germany's Wacken Open Air festival in '08 iirc. I think these bands are shrugging off the bitterness/jaded feelings they possibly harbored from the metal community's lukewarm reception(Cynic aside) back in the early 90s since they see profitability and a chance to relive some good times thanks to tech metal's second wave over the last few years.

PW's website has remained (almost?)completely unupdated since I first checked it out in 2000 but here ya go anyway if you're curious about them:

Devon Graves is back with Pyschotic Waltz?  That is great news, I hope they have album plans!  That guy is gold, Pyschotic Waltz and Dead Soul Tribe both put out a ton of fantastic stuff.  A Murder of Crows is one of my absolute favourite albums.
