The covers are awsome. Most of them are better than AROP and Wither IMO.
Jesus Christ himself* comes down amidst a choir of 2 billion angels singing Handel's Hallelujah chorus. As KrotchRaut shred randomly on guitars made of dragon bones using picks made from God's kidney stones, Jesus heals a blind woman who promptly gives birth onstage to a creation of pure light.

*Yes, Jesus Christ himself. Nothing less will do.

I'm glad this topic came up. With BC&SL becoming somewhat stale as of late, these covers have really hit the spot. I don't mean that as a dig at the album because it's definitely up there with the best them.

I just really like the vibe of them. They left a lot of room for exploration, experimentation, and jamming. Always a fun listen. :metal

The Queen Medley is by far my favourite cover DT has ever done. Possibly one of my favourite songs performed by DT as well.

It's flawless.

Stargazer and Take Your Fingers From My Hair are great as well. Both wonderfully covered songs.

Though I'm not a huge fan of the two instrumental tracks (Odyssey and Lark Tongues). They aren't bad, but have much less of that DT feel to them, if you ask me. I kind of felt they were going more for a reproduction of the originals. They aren't bad, but nothing special if you ask me.

Also the To Tame a Land cover is pretty alright.
I felt its length in quite a few places.

The Queen songs are great.  The instrumentals are fantastic.  Everything else is OK.

Queen the Zerba covers are the highlight to me.  The Queen songs gave me great joy in annoying my cousin who swears that he'll never listen to cover albums and hates when bands resort to that.  So to my surprise that his favorite band of all time Queen was covered and it was an album cut to top it off (He loves album cuts just like an old fogey should! :)), it threw him into a frenzy and gave me pleasure in ribbing him for months.  BTW, he loved it.

The Queen medley is frigging unbelievable. The whole cover disk is just a bonus for the album. The fact that they did it for fun and for the fans is awesome. Sure someone may not like all the songs, but DT sure didn't have to do any of them!

I find the cover disk is like a party in my mouth...and everyone's invited.

It's awesome. The Queen Medley is sublime, along with Larks' Tongues in Aspic.

They grow on you, that's for sure.

The vocals on the Queen song kick pure ass (Hey Money, Money!)
And that slide at the beginning of Stargazer makes me shiver.

The cover album is fantastic. The Queen Medley and Stargazer are the highlights for me, with TYFFMH close behind. The covers are good too. I like the To Tame A Land cover, but had already heard it from when they provided it for that Iron Maiden tribute.

Also, it's cool to know that Brian May apparently loved the Queen medley cover.

The Queen cover and the Rainbow cover are both fantastic, I don't care much for the rest though, since I just don't like the songs. Not much DT can do about that though.
JLB does an amazing job on the Queen vocals, especially on the last soft section. The vibrato is dead on.
Only King could mis-spell a LETTER.
Yep. I think the only party in the MP/DT situation that hasn't moved on is DTF.

Yeah the Queen medley is my favourite. Mike's vocal arrangement and performance on that one is spot on, and JLB is on fire on that track and on Stargazer.

All the covers are amazing.

Fun fact, the covers have more dynamic range than the album for some reason, which makes them more fun to blast really loud.

It's great but the long straightened hair doesn't do anything for him. Especially since he is tanked.
I like the Petrucci look in CiM tbh.

I guess I'm the one that has to say it - The beginning of Odyssey is just pure awesome.  Not that the rest of the covers aren't also, but the first 3 minutes of Odyssey are great and a half.

I haven't listen the first version of To Tame a Land since it was released on the Maiden Heaven Tribute, so I maybe wrong. However, did anybody notice that they removed some of the vocal effects from JLB voice on the BC&SL version. It at least sounded much better when I first listened to the BC&SL version.

I love the covers album. MP has shown a real good knack of picking songs to "Dream Theaterize". That said, I really don't understand Lark Toungues. It really doesn't do anything. My guess is that King Crimson has a lot more to offer.
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Winger Theater Forums........or WTF.  ;D
TAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol

To be fair, I always thought the KC original had something... more... that the DT cover doesn't offer. But I can't really place my finger on it.
