Haven't watched the videos yet, but I really dig the title that Ultimate-Guitar put.

Watch John Petrucci and His Beard Demonstrate Ernie Ball Music Man Signature Guitars
:lol All the comments are about his beard.  I'm sure that Ernie Ball would rather them comment on their guitars. :lol

They would if their guitars had amazing beards.

Not possible unless JP gets a hair transplant by then! :-p
As a basic rule, if you hate it, you must solely blame Portnoy. If it's good, then you must downplay MP's contribution to the band as not being important anyway, or claim he's just lying. It's the DTF way.

Rookie. By 2045 they'll have hair restoration by shredding. That's why it's so plentiful in this picture.

I don't know if it's been noted around here, but JP's nephew Jake Bowen (Guitarist in Periphery) has the most JP-beard ever right now.

Anyone see the new study about how dirty beards can be?

Looks like he's tamed the beard a little. It looks much better now, IMO.

Imagine him taking the final bow every show with that much weight on the head. His back would have never made it through the tour in one piece!

I'm sure that was an important consideration!  :lol   I'd be okay if he shaved his head, if it results in somewhat extending his career!

I'm currently in the process of growing an epic beard. It's a hell of a lot work to make it look decent. In my opinion the best JP look was from the Score show. He looked like a total badass. If anyone needed to trim the beard it's JR.

those beards
I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces

My favourite JP look is Budokan.

It seems these days - if you're in a "heavy" band - you simply have to have long hair and a massive beard.

I don't agree.  If anything I think that stereotype has changed quite a bit over the years.

Yup. Show me how many 80s bands had short-haired members. Even in the 90s I can only think of Metallica and other long-haired expatriates like FII-era MP.

Google tells me it is Leprous.

And regardless of their "look", I don't think that one example refutes the proposition.  That would just be the exception that proves the rule.

It seems to me that the ones bringing long hair back in fashion are the ones that lived the 80s hair age. New generations are more diverse nowadays, me thinks.
