X is my second favourite Spock's album behind Snow.  Phenomenal album, just brilliant.  Can't wait to meet them  :metal

Good to see others are still digging this great song, too!  "From the Darkness" is pretty stellar, too.  And yes, the album as a whole is really, really good, and while it sounds like a cliche to say that the two longest songs are the best ones, in this case, they are undoubtedly are. :hat

Wind At My Back FTW
Yeah, no doubt.  I absolutely love that song, and I'm determined to find a way to work it into a set some time before I die lol.

Very late response, but yeah, I was thinking that it would be great in a Christian setting. It definitely has that vibe that Christians who only listen to CCM and other Christian music would like.

How do you rank the albums?  Feel free to put breaks to group albums you like a lot.

V - Two great epics and two of my favorite shorter SB songs (Thoughts Pt 2 & All on a Sunday)
X - As Kev just said, this album is aging very well

The Light
Octane
The Kindness of Strangers

Spock's Beard
Feel Euphoria

Day For Night
Snow - Has some great parts, but drags on too much for me.  I'm ready to move on by disc 2.

Beware of Darkness - not bad, but The Doorway is the only song that draws me to the album

Octane

Spock's Beard
Day For Night
Snow

I've heard all the rest aside from Feel Euphoria, but I've not listened to them enough to rank. That will all change soon since I just finally ordered actual copies of all of them.

Feel Euphoria is a good effort, considering their main song-writer just left the band, but there are some great tunes on there like "Ghosts of Autumn", the title track, and the multi-part epic "A Guy Named Sid".

As for the first three albums, while they're all a bit different from each other, there's something similar to me about all three of them. Maybe it's because they were all re-released at the same time from InsideOut (with bonus tracks) and that's how I got them, so I became familiar with all three albums at the same time.

A couple years ago I would have ranked Octane above one or two of them, but in the last couple years I have grown to love and appreciate the early Beard a bit more than the Nick-Era sophomore effort, which to be fair, is still highly ranked in my book and is far better than their next album and Day For Night.

V, Snow - my two fav's

Day for Night, The Light - both solid but not ultimate favs

Kindness of Strangers, Beware of Darkness - still great, but my least favorite of the Neal era albums

Octane, Feel Euporia, X, S/T - like it enough to keep buying them, but don't like them as much as the Neal era albums

At this point, I'd put both long songs from the last album in my SB top 10:

The Light
The Doorway
At the End of the Day
Jaws of Heaven
Made Alive Again/Wind at My Back
Harm's Way
The Great Nothing
From the Darkness
Flow
Solitary Soul

Pretty stellar top 10, eh?

Also, Marc, you left out the best song from FE: East of Eden, West of Memphis! :D

Oh, and Goodbye to Yesterday is the best Beard song that doesn't get talked about enough.

GREAT top 10, Kev!

And yes, yes, EOEWOM is pretty fantastic :rollin

"Goodbye To Yesterday" can actually bring me to tears if in the right mood. It's very touching and one of my favorites on V...well, with only 6 songs, the whole album pretty much ends up being favorites.

Okay, I have now listened a good number of times to all but one album and...

Octane > X > V > Beware of Darkness > The Kindness of Strangers > Spock's Beard > Day For Night > Snow > The Light

Question for you - did you listen to the Special Edition of Octane? There are some GREAT tracks on the 2nd disc that should have been on the main album but for some reason or another, they got cut and replaced with a couple more mediocre tracks on the main album.

No kidding.  Octane with some of those songs swapped would have been the best Spock's Beard album.  As it is, it is very good but short of being great.  I used to love it regardless, but those extra tracks really just weigh it down more and more.

I've never heard them, but from this kind of feedback I'm sure at some point I'll sell off the regular edition and buy the 2-disc.

Totally worth it. In fact, I bought the jewel-case version of the Special Edition from FYE of all places, and then later realized there was a European Digi-Book version from InsideOut Europe. I sought it out and bought it last year on eBay for about $8.00 +shipping. Totally worth owning two copies of such a wonderful album. Also, the bonus disc has some funny video from the making of the album!

I bought a hard cardboard case double disk with a 3rd disk that was a Inside out Sampler.

Interviewer: You're playing at High Voltage Festival this year.

Neal: Yeah, I'm really excited about it.

Interviewer: Spock's Beard are playing there too. ¿Could there be a possibility of reunion?

Neal: Well, let's wait. I'm talking about it with them. It's gonna be a great year for sure.

Oh god PLEEEASE!!!  :)

I can't imagine a one disc version of this album.  2 disc is the only way to go.
