I expected that list to be longer... which means I need more of this style of music. Recommendations anyone?
Massive Attack - Mezzanine, Blue Lines
DJ Shadow - Endtroducing..... (This can be considered Hip Hop more than electronic)
Major lack of Shpongle in your list Volk.
Bass Communion - Ambient/noisy/dark etc, this sideproject by SW is a pearl.
Ghosts On Magnetic Tape and Molotov And Haze are 2 amazing albums.
Well, they only have four, plus a remix album. They're all pretty great, I'm not such a fan of their first album (Are You Shpongled) but some hardcore electronica fans seem to prefer it, presumably because they don't like their music "diluted" with other styles and ideas. But my favourite is definitely Tales of the Inexpressible, and Nothing Lasts... and the new one, Ineffable Mysteries from Shpongleland are also great.Major lack of Shpongle in your list Volk.
I still havent really tried them out too much yet. Which of their many albums would you recommend?

Pendulum - might be considered Drum N Bass, or just Electronic-Rock.
Anyways, they're legen...wait for it... dary (as Barney Stinson would have put it).
In Silico is an amazing album, and worth checking out actualleh. (The Tempest, Visions espec.)
I just got their live CD/DVD and it's amazing. If you've never heard them, go look up the song "The Tempest" on youtube.
I'd really like some dark ambient electronic stuff (hard to describe). Does anyone know of stuff remotely like that?
Great suggestion. Unfortunately that is already one of my favourite albums of all time  Something similar though would be excellentI'd really like some dark ambient electronic stuff (hard to describe). Does anyone know of stuff remotely like that?

I've been checking dubstep out lately as well. But that last one is one of the most filthiest pieces of music I've ever heard. Incredibly cool!
Listening to Boards of Canada right now, and I still in awe of the sounds that they create.I really should get some of their stuff. They sound right up my alley. Any album suggestions?
Borgore - Guided Relaxation Dub
Borgore - Guided Relaxation Dub
Wow, that Borgore one is crazy. I'm going to a dubstep party in a couple of weeks, I really don't know what I can expect, but I know it'll be fun.

Juno Reactor's Labyrinth CD is pretty rad.
I went to a dubstep party a few weeks ago and it was a lot of fun. Before going, all I could think was how the hell do people dance to this stuff?

Well, it seems pretty obvious to me, you just put on a dirty face, and dance in half time, making small, but really explosive moves.
Or dance like hell :D
Dunno if it counts as electronic, but i gotta say that Ulver - Perdition City is an amazing album!
Electronic/trip-hop/experimental with other styles.

I obtained some more music by Borgore. Holy shit is this stuff epic.
Recommendations: (wait for the drop in each one, the first minute is usually an intro)

I'm not sure if he has any official albums. It seems like a lot of dubstep artists just release songs here and there on splits with other artists. I just found a collection of his stuff and downloaded it.
Yeah some of the intros are a bit weird; they seem to be a part of the genre though. The first minute or so of almost every dubstep song I have has a slow/weird intro, then the song drops or picks up. I love playing this stuff in the car. Besides being able to listen to it through a good system, it just makes for good driving music.

Well thanks to Gwii, I've been getting into a lot of Dubstep for the past few weeks.
Its hard to find actual albums, since most artists just release in singles and remixes, but I highly recommend the Fabriclive 37 compilation to anyone who has interest in the genre. Perfect mix of both atmospheric and "heavy" dubstep.
About Bass Communion, i got: Ghosts on Magnetic Tape, Molotov and Haze & Atmospherics.
I like them all very much, any recommendation on what to get next?
As for Bass Communion, go for I, II, and Loss. Together with Ghosts... those are the best albums Steven Wilson made within BC.
Oh and of course, you SHOULD check out Continuum II, if only for the first track: Construct IV.

Dubstep, really all I'm saying. It started as a strange hobby, a musical extremity of mine. But it now turns out to be about 20-30% of all music I listen to. Man I love that genre. All of this.

What programs do you all use to make music? I just started making electronic music a few weeks ago (I suck, needless to say), and my friend turned me on to Ableton Live. Maybe I'll be able to share something when I get setup with some decent samples and plugins.

Just listened to Boards of Canada. So good.
Plastic Boy - Plastic Infusion
Venetian Snares - Cubist Reggae
Various - A State of Trance 500
Siriusmo - Mosaik
Sun Glitters - Everything Could be Fine
The Campfire Headphase.Just listened to Boards of Canada. So good.
YESYESYES I really love Music Has The Right To Children. I need to get the other one, whatever it's called.
I've been loving Hold Your Colour lately. Graphite is the only one on In Silico that's clicked, though.
Pendulum still remains my favorite electronic-band/artist, I'm not that far from 2k plays on lastfm now. :)Whoa :tup That's a lot of listens.
Immersion has Encoder, The Island (both Parts), The Fountain and Under the Waves. And Salt in the Wounds and Watercolour and Set me on Fire and Crush and Immunize and Witchcraft etc. :)
Just got BT's most recent album, These Hopeful Machines. It's a ton of music to take in, but it's really great. A Million Stars is gorgeous. It's really nice isn't it? A bit cheesier than usual (he's such a sap these days) but some of the music is gorgeous, and it's got a nice variety of styles in it.
Also continuing my trance obsession, it have discovered that Above and Beyond is a perpetual creator of happiness. My life is now significantly improved as a result.
I love the way the hip-hop beat in the intro to Slam blends with the horn section to give it a sort of low-tempo march feel. That and the huge bass make it orgasmic.Definitely, even with the 'oh/yeah' part at the beginning. And then the awesome voice, and the slow saw and then BAM! Just makes you want to jump around
I'm trying to get into electronic music, but I only really like Pendulum and The Prodigy. Trance just strikes me as a genre that should of died in the 90's, so none of that noise. :lolTry Boards of Canada. Album: Music Has the Right to Children.

Yep yep.. I never got volume 2 though, anyone got any opinions on that?
Quite a bunch of the stuff I've been enjoying has been coming from the Ghostly label
https://ghostly.com/ (https://ghostly.com/)
Musicians like Matthew Dear, Deastro, and even Justin Brodarick's Pale Sketcher project calls the label home.
The other label that works with my electronic music tastes would be DFA. Aside from the just-disbanded LCD Soundsystem, their roster includes The Rapture (who just released a great follow-up album recently) and The Juan MacLean, who are releasing a collection of b-sides and remixes before year's end.
The Kitsune Maison compilations are one of my best sources for new and interesting electronic music acts. They usually have some great remixes from France. Got to hear music by Yelle and remixes of Phoenix's stuff from them.
Other than those, I've also been checking out some music by Junior Boys and Washed Out.
I can't get into LCD soundsystem at all.
These guys are better than VNV Nation :D
Woah.
So the Czech electronic artist Floex is putting up a song from his new album every day leading up to its release, and shit, this is shaping up to be really, really good. The link to it is here, https://www.floex.cz/ ...and check back again for new songs and the album when it's out if you like what you hear! There are three songs up so far and I can't get enough of them!
I guess I'll just put all of my favourite electronic artists on here then:No Netsky?

Speaking of which, I've been warming up to dubstep a bit. I'm still not a fan of the general half-timey feel, but some of the more electro-housey stuff can be alright.
Yeah? Were you on pills? :P
What I don't get with Nero, is that some songs I absolutely adore, but they also put out shit like Crush on You.
Still annoyed the bonus tracks on Welcome Reality not being released on CD.Yep. Promises, Fugue State, Guilt, Me and You :heart
What I don't get with Nero, is that some songs I absolutely adore, but they also put out shit like Crush on You.
Listening to The Birthday Massacre, synth rock with female vocals. Pretty pop-ish, but catchy and fun.
Jon Hopkins - Insides is currently blowing my mind.Opalescent is better
Oh and the semi-electronic ambient-like modern-classical pieces of Johann Johannsson are totally awesome too.
Anyone listen to Pretty Lights? I'm not entirely sure how to describe him, he's like chill/downtempo glitchy dubsteppy stuff. It's all free here: https://www.prettylightsmusic.com/
Also, totally obsessed with Shpongle now.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND FUTUREPERFECT IT'S THEIR BEST ALBUM AND CONTAINS THEIR OVERALL BEST SONGS

So guys i was listening to aphex twin but there was no drop lol?? what gives????
Really digging some indietronica stuff ie M83, Neon Indian, etc.M83, good stuff.
I made a thread about them a long time ago, but I'll pimp them out here, too: The Crüxshadows. Gothic, industrial, EBM, darkwave, classical, dance, synthpop, and violin with good vocals and lyrics.
Sleigh Bells are interesting.
For those interested, BT will be doing an AMA on reddit this monday: https://twitter.com/#!/BT/status/182541584045314048And then he went on Stickam and had a long chat with us, and played lots of new music to be released soon. Despite connection problems and bad sound, that was totally awesome! Samples sounded great, can't wait to hear the albums (!) when they are out in May.. I think that's what he said.
So I just found this mix on Spotify: https://www.amazon.com/Dark-Trance-Neogoth-Various-Artists/dp/B000A2H2IG
It's fucking AMAZING
-dancing really hard, turn around and see a dude in a wheelchair and feel like an asshole
-later see that guy crowdsurfing in his wheelchair during Thing Called Love. He flashed them a heart sign and Tony flashed him one back, it was fucking awesome.
God I wanna go to the one in Miami so bad but I'm the only one who like EDM, I'll probably go alone.
I listened to "More Monsters And Sprites" today. I wasn't as bad as I expected (it had some good melodies) but it's way too repetitive for me to like. I guess EDM is supposed to be repetitive though since you can't really dance to something that changes every five seconds.Awhile ago, I listened to brostep stuff like that, and realized it only has an average of two parts per song and gets boring after about one part. So I just stopped listening to it.
So I just discovered Deadmau5 tonight and I am loving it.
I saw Paul Oakenfold live last year, it was fucking amazing @_@

Just posting to say The Knife will release their new single "Full of Fire" on Monday. So excited!Cool, love that band!
Can't wait to see them in May. :)
I hope I'm not the only one who had it on repeat for like hours last night. Get Lucky is actually amazing. I have extremely high hopes for RAM.
I've spent my entire weekend drinking in my backyard and listening to early 90s techno. It's been the best weekend I've had in a month.

Get Lucky is awesome, and it has given me high hopes as well for RAM and I really do hope it is decent, because I was very let down by Human After All.

Saw The Knife yesterday, amazing show.
SPOILERS FOR ANYONE THAT IS GOING TO SEE IT:
You will only see The Knife for a good 15 mins, the rest is people dancing on stage to their songs. A lot of people were pissed off, which I can undersatnd but I had a great time nonetheless and I thought it was a great show. :)
They played a lot of songs from Shaking The Habitual.
Here's the setlist:
A Cherry on Top
Raging Lung
Bird
Without You My Life Would Be Boring
A Tooth for an Eye
One Hit
Networking
Wrap Your Arms Around Me
Got 2 Let U

Been watching so many Boiler Room sets lately. I recommend checking out the BR YouTube channel for some really, really great stuff. Definitely check out Disclosure's, Busy P's, and all of Jamie Xx's.
I'd love to hear it. Sad to read through this thread and realize a lot of people don't even know what electronica actually is. :lol
I honestly have no idea what electronica actually means. I've always assumed it was just another word for electronic music (which in the end is not a very descriptive genre either).
Infected Mushroom are so damn awesome. Have you heard their latest? Not yet but I've heard good things about it. How does it compare to their other works (specially to Vicious Delicious, my fav album of them)?
Infected Mushroom... how many of you became aware of them by accidentally downloading their track "Dream Theatre"?Never heard it. From which album it is?
I did.
I think it's great, it's basically a compilation of the three recent EPs they did collaborating with other artists, plus a couple of new tracks. There's a lot of really fun music, plus some gorgeous stuff as well!Infected Mushroom are so damn awesome. Have you heard their latest? Not yet but I've heard good things about it. Apparently it's from the album "Double Click Vinyl" (2000). I haven't heard the album, I only got the song from Napster or something ages ago. Looking for some DT.. :)I'd never heard of it - Double Click was one of their singles, so looks like Dream Theatre is the b-side from that.

Neo retro 80's synth and I highly recommend
Damn, I'm really digging the new Infected Mushroom album. Kind of a return to their roots, and with little bombastic, bit with a focus on melody that I'm loving. Give this a listen.I'm digging it too. I seem to be a fairly unusual IM fan in that I generally think they're better at the more energetic stuff, and much prefer IM the Supervisor onwards than anything before it. That said, the new one is a great mix of their old and new stuff and has some killer tracks!
