The forum asked for it, Cool Chris delivers.
Go!
someone start a "bands you wish hadn't existed" thread w/e
Slayer.
The Doors
Guns n Roses
Nirvana
I can imagine a world without Nirvana, and that is coming from a lifelong PNWer. If they didn't lead the rock music scene out of the hair metal and in to grunge, someone else would have done it.
Never been a GnR fan. No comment.
I cannot imagine a classic rock world without The Doors. I get people not liking them, but I don't see the need to wish they didn't exist. They didn't do any harm to the genre.
-
Nirvana is the biggest one that comes to mind.
-
I don't see anything good coming from this thread, and foresee it just turning into fights for bashing each others' favorite bands. But I'll see where it goes.
:alwayswatching:

I thought this was a joke :D
Don't quite understand this. Sure, we all have bands we don't like or beyond that, but if you don't like them, just don't listen to them :lol

When it comes to some bands, like Nirvana in my case I believe they truly did damage to a genre or music in general. I think the world was worse off having had them in it. The only bad thing about Nirvana never existing would be that Dave Grohl, who became an all around stellar person and musician might not have otherwise broken into the mainstream.
-
The only correct answer here is Yoko Ono and her Plastic Band. (I'm half kidding.)
Respectfully, I don't at all agree with Nick's assertion that Nirvana truly did damage to a genre or music in general. I don't at all enjoy Nirvana but I push back strongly against those kinds of claims. Even Temple of the Dog, Soundgarden, etc... as much as I cannot stand them, I don't think they were a 'negative force on music' or anything like that.
-
Nothing will make me change the radio station faster than a Nickelback song, so I guess them. Oh, and maybe Culture Club.
-
Nothing will make me change the radio station faster than a Nickelback song
Maybe you are on the wrong channel? :p
Interestingly the more I think about this, nothing actually comes to mind. Anything I hate that much I can just tune out, literally and figuratively. Not one artist has had enough of a negative effect on my life to wish they didn't exist.
Still waiting for an MP-era DT fan to say Avenged Sevenfold.
-
Oooh boy it's a long list.. but I'm gonna throw out this doozy:
U2.
-
Five Finger Death Punch
-
To the extent that a band influenced someone else, I can't really in good conscience say anyone. I think the Velvet Underground are WAYYYY overrated, but without them there is no REM, who I love. I think the Doors are WAYYYY overrated, but without them there is no Kiss or Cult, who I love. I think Nirvana is WAYYY overrated, but without them... hey, wait, maybe I found one! :)
-
I'm really struggling to name one. Sure I don't enjoy some bands, but I can't really say one that I wish flat out didn't exist.
I don't think Nirvana deserves the hate personally. They aren't some great band in my mind, but they have enough decent music to make me think I wouldn't want them wiped out.
-
Nickelback
Georgia Florida Line

They do harm to my ears.
-
Leonard Skinard. There were much better bands in the southern rock genre, but most people only think of them.

Cool that you named REM. I know this is way off topic, but I just want to say that I absolutely LOVE Automatic For The People. One of the best albums of the 90s. And it has great string arrangements by none other than John freaggin Paul freaggin Jones. REM hardly get mentioned around music lovers, don't know why.

Terrible pun :D Have you really listened to Automatic For The People? It's really good!

I'm a simple man. I see easy jokes and I go for them. I have not listened to REM. My mom likes them though.

I mock you from my couch ! :lol

My mom loved Roy Orbison. Yet, I listen to him. Maybe you should check out R.E.M.

Avenged Sevenfold for giving MP wanderlust :lol
If it wasn't going to be them, it could have been some other young and upcoming band that's getting traction that wanted MP to do drums. At least, he's partook in a good album with Nightmare. Could be worst, it could have been Five Finger Death Punch that caused MP to leave DT.

Oh I didn't mean to imply I won't listen to them because my parents like them. Toto IV is my favorite album of all time and I talk about Toto with my mom a lot! Def Leppard, Van Halen, GnR, ACDC... yeah man.

Milli Vanilli
Girl you know it's. Girl you know it's. Girl you know it's. Girl you know it's.
In all fairness, I prefer that they existed and we got that gem of a trainwreck and that they ended up crashing and burning hard that they did than them not existing at all.
-
Well yeah, there was a joke in there, with them not actually existing, but okay.
-
And again I'll say: Adrenaline Mob.
A couple others are Anthrax and Slayer.
-
I can certainly understand someone not like Slayer, but what is your beef with Anthrax, dude?
-

I understand not liking either, but to wish either of these didn't exist? what is the beef?
Def Leppard, Van Halen, GnR, ACDC... yeah man.
About to see Def Leppard
-
About to see Def Leppard
My first concert.

Nothing will make me change the radio station faster than a Nickelback song
Maybe you are on the wrong channel? :p
I know, right? The rock station I infrequently listen to can be really bizarre like that. Yesterday they suckered me in with Iron Maiden - The Trooper , followed by Def Leppard - Let it Rock, followed by Dio - Holy Diver, followed by Nickelback - Rockstar... *change channel*

Geeze, one clearly does not belong :lol

Without Slayer, we would never have this:

Technically they existed twice :lol
-
Hardly a "band" but The Proclaimers . Those who know me well enough to know seem to enjoy playing "I Would Walk 500 Miles" at every opportunity just to piss me off :lol
-
Is it controversial to say Radiohead
They're not even a bad band but no band in history has been more overhyped critically
Less controversial opinion would be to say Imagine Dragons, the death knell of rock in the mainstream, uugh
-
Parama, come on man. This is right up your alley. I expected at least 20 bands on your list. :lol
-
There's only one right answer...

I have literally never heard of this band. If they killed mainstream rock, they did it very, very quietly.

You have to um..imagine it. :neverusethis:

I mean if you listen to classic rock radio all day younwouldnt hear them, yeah

Since I listen to more modern rock/alternative music radio on a daily basis, sadly, I have to hear them all the time and yes, I don't see the big hype for them. That and Five Finger Death Punch.

WINGER
You have no idea how many times I have wondered when this post is going to arrive - either here or in the album thread equivalent :lol
-
Hah! Oh..it was coming! I saw this thread when I got home, but between making dinner, doing tomorrow's lunches, etc...
But as soon as I sat down...…..BAM! :lol

Chickenfoot. So much potential and their stuff just does not live up to it.

Yup, as with most bands like that.
-
Insane Clown Posse.
And their fans.
-
Insane Clown Posse.
And their fans.
Oooh, this is a good one.
I will also add:
Brokencyde
U2
Coldplay
Nickelback
The Ramones
Meshuggah (They really aren't a bad band, but they started a genre (djent) that has literally gone no where and it's creeping in to more and more music that it shouldn't)
-
Queen. Talented, but I can do without. 😈
-
So this is just a "bands we don't like" thread, right?

found another band i wish didn't Exist

So true..
-
So bound?
Totally said that a few times.
-
If a few times means never, then yeah, totally. :lol
-
:lol
Yeah, nice try. I did say a couple of times. You know the outcome since it was only a "couple" of times. :lol
-
None, actually. As much as I dislike a lot of bands, there are a lot of people who enjoy them. There's music for everyone.
-
Hardly a "band" but The Proclaimers . Those who know me well enough to know seem to enjoy playing "I Would Walk 500 Miles" at every opportunity just to piss me off :lol
This is me with REM's Losing My Religion, everyone seems to play it when I'm near and I HATE THIS FUCKING SONG >:( >:( >:( :chill
So it's not necessarily REM that I wish didn't exist, but the world would be a better place without above mentioned song.
-
Hellyeah.
Kinda think that band is responsible for the end of Mudvayne.
-
None, actually. As much as I dislike a lot of bands, there are a lot of people who enjoy them. There's music for everyone.
This is me as well. There are bands I absolutely can't stand, but if they make someone feel the way the bands I love make me feel, then they should stick around.
-

I wish this thread didn't exist, dammit. There's tons of music out there, something for everyone. If something's not your cup of tea, just leave it be. They're not doing you any harm, are they? If you really hate a song that much, turn it off or walk out of the place that's playing it. And why do people display such vitriol towards certain music? That's all it is. The language/attitude that people often have should only be used towards things like murder or racism, not art.
-
None, actually. As much as I dislike a lot of bands, there are a lot of people who enjoy them. There's music for everyone.
Yep. This. If I don’t like a band I just don’t listen to them and it’s as if they didn’t exist.
-
True. For example, Despacito virtually didn't exist for me. I passed through the whole summer unscathed without ever hearing the song, or knowing it was Despacito if I ever heard it by accident. I probably heard the song from start to finish in full exactly once, during the dancing part of the office party for Christmas.

I'm kinda with you, but then one should not take this thread very serious.

Same. I only gained knowledge about the existence of the song by that one dude on Facebook who made those hilarious videos singing in public with his headphones on :rollin

There's no escaping such songs and worse if you got kids

:sadpanda:
There's no escaping such songs and worse if you got kids
I'm a metalhead who hangs out with other metalheads, I don't listen to the radio, when going to work I use my muuuuusic plaaayeeeeer and during car trips I listen to CDs or compilations from the USB pen. It's not that hard, especially if you don't go to the disco or spend your whole vacation lying on a beach all day long, to avoid commercial songs, to the point that you barely recognize them if you ever heard them in passing.
But yeah, I imagine that having kids makes it all more difficult :D
-
So bound?
Totally said that a few times.
SO ENERGY, POWAH!

Only bands/artists I REALLY hate (and wish they didn't exist because they grate on me that much) are:
U2
Simply Red
The Pet Shop Boys
God, I can't stand them!

Over 12,000 songs in my iTunes and I am proud to say that I have zero songs by Nickelback, Kiss or Pearl Jam in it. :tup :tup

I can't really think of any band that I hate so much that I want them erased from music history.
Though there are some that I would consider no big loss
-
I wish Dream Theater didn't exist so that we would never have had this amazing online community.
Oh and 4 Non Blondes..... I hate that song. You know which one I'm talking about.

I was just reading Linda Perry (singer for 4NB) is married to Sarah Gilbert (Darlene from Roseanne). Learn somethin new every day.
-
I went reading as welll... they had a single album and a single hit before breaking up.
I mean, DT has a single hit as well, but at least they didn't split up after Images and Words ;D
Sometimes don't you feel for these kind of bands? known to the general public for one or two songs mostly, and the average concert goer caring only for said hits?
Imagine a scenario where DT break it even bigger than they did in 1992, but falling into not infinity, but total obscurity shortly after, and their concerts in small venues attended by 10-20 dedicated fans, and everyone else showing up only to hear Pull Me Under.
-
^^ A female friend of mine went to see Journey and Asia last year. Only knew "Heat of the Moment" and "Don't Stop Believing" (but was still so pumped about seeing them for some reason)... lol

Your iPod sucks then. :)
There's at least a strong Greatest Hits for all three (and I would say "Ten" is essential listening).
Speaking of 4NB, the girl that opened for Myles Kennedy in New York (Chloe Lowery) busted that out (it's called "What's Up?") after butchering "Me And Bobby McGee", and before "Chandelier" by Sia.

I like certain songs early in their career but by 2010 I gave up. That on your face, no dimension sound wore me down.
-
U2 has a nice collection of good songs from the 80's and early 90s. Couldn't care less about their newer stuff.

I'm a huge fan but their last few albums have not grabbed me at all
-
I love The Joshua Tree and How To Dismantle is a great album too. I don't know their other albums that well, but I might check them out in the future. They're one of those bands I like, but nothing more.

STONE TEMPLE PILOTS

STONE TEMPLE PILOTS
Man. I didn't think about this but for the sake of entertaining the premise of this thread, I would agree with this. I continue to find more songs by STP that I've heard for a long time but didn't know they did them, and oof. Dead and Bloated is in the running for worst rock song ever.
-
WUT? STP rules. Your ears are broken. Both of you! :lol
-
I've hated STP since I was 8 years old. Them and Nirvana are the worst.
-
The Rolling Stones.
There, I said it!

This is largely "Bands I Hate" but the B-52s. Because damn if that Love Shack song didn't dominate the airwaves in the 80s, not to mention Rock Lobster. My favorite dance club always played those two songs, and both songs were automatic pee breaks. So maybe I should be thankful that crap band wrote those songs, as it always gave me a good time to hit the head.

Favorite dance club? When the hell was that ever a thing? Seems to me that the B-52's would be the best thing played in a f'n dance club.
I'm gonna forget I even read that.
-
C'mon, brah, you never hit the clubs when you were in you early 20s? Were electric lights and amplified sound not invited yet?
-
Only hit a club if there was a heavy metal band playing. I was most definitely not a club guy.

Honestly, ever since I grew out of my teenage prog snob/music elitist phase, I've developed a "live and let live" attitude regarding music. If, for example, some friends have bonded over their love for Nickelback or Justin Bieber's songs have helped someone through rough times, then who am I to take that away from them? I may not be into stuff like that myself, but I wouldn't wish they never existed simply out of selfishness.
-
Nickelturd - just hate their sound, everything sounds the same
Foo Fighters - see above
Green Day - so called punk, just annoyingly bad
Nirvana - never clicked with me, destroyed metal in the early 90's
The Cure - urgh ....
-

Kids did that for me. I get a tremendous amount of joy from music, and to watch my kid have that bond with her music... I could care less that it's Taylor Swift, One Direction or Panic! At The Disco. In fact, I'm going to see Harry Styles tonight at Madison Square Garden with her and two of her friends. He does a cover of "The Chain" by Fleetwood Mac, and I'm down for that (plus I LOVE his song "Sign Of The Times").
Through those bands (and their covers) my kid now likes Queen, Fleetwood Mac and a couple other more traditionally classic bands.

Hellyeah.
Kinda think that band is responsible for the end of Mudvayne.
Yes. Especially after Mudvayne released an amazing self-titled with no tour for it. Makes me >:(
