We've been doing this here for years, so let's see if there is interest again.
Rules are simple.
Pick one team to WIN their week one game. If they win, you're still alive and move on to the next week.. If they lose or tie, you're eliminated.
Once you've used a team, you can no longer use them for the duration of the survivor.
Deadline to pick a team is prior to kickoff of their game.
Have fun and good luck.
Week 1 Time (ET)
Thursday, SEP. 7
Kansas City Chiefs at New England Patriots 8:30pm
Sunday, SEP. 10
New York Jets at Buffalo Bills 1:00pm
Atlanta Falcons at Chicago Bears 1:00pm
Baltimore Ravens at Cincinnati Bengals 1:00pm
Pittsburgh Steelers at Cleveland Browns 1:00pm
Arizona Cardinals at Detroit Lions 1:00pm
Jacksonville Jaguars at Houston Texans 1:00pm
Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Miami Dolphins 1:00pm
Oakland Raiders at Tennessee Titans 1:00pm
Philadelphia Eagles at Washington Redskins 1:00pm
Indianapolis Colts at Los Angeles Rams 4:05pm
Seattle Seahawks at Green Bay Packers 4:25pm
Carolina Panthers at San Francisco 49ers 4:25pm
New York Giants at Dallas Cowboys 8:30pm
Monday, SEP. 11
New Orleans Saints at Minnesota Vikings 7:10pm
Los Angeles Chargers at Denver Broncos 10:20pm
If there are any questions, please let me know.

I think I'm going to have a go with this, for a bit of fun. If I get eliminated in Week 1, then so be it.
Indianapolis Colts, I think. Maybe. How many times am I allowed to change my pick before kickoff? Every team starts at 0-0, so there's no previous form to go on, and I don't want to waste the big teams just yet.
-
Indianapolis Colts
That's a bold strategy Cotton, let's see if it pays off. *NOT my pick*
Steelers
-
Atlanta

Steelers
It's 50/50 whoever I choose. Either that team wins or they don't.
-
Andrew Luck has been ruled out. I wouldn't try your luck with Tolzien going against a Wade Phillips D.
You have until the start of the game of the team you pick to lock in your pick, which means you can wait until early Tuesday (your time) if you settle on LA (Chargers) or Denver.
This year's week one is deceptively hard. But Pittsburgh seems to be the smart pick.
-
Houston
-
Oh well. If I get eliminated, I get eliminated. No big deal, really.
-
Atlanta.
-
I talked myself into taking L.A. now due to Phillips vs. Backup, and saving Pittsburgh for later in the season.
L.A. Rams for week 1.
-
I'll go with Carolina week 1.
-
I'll go with Carolina week 1.
-
I'm going to try and hang with the good Dr. for twelve weeks again. Guess I'll start by copying his week one pick.
Pittsburgh
-
Houston
-
I haven't followed the NFL in a year or so, so I got no f'n clue who's doing what/where/who/why.
Pretty sure the 9rs are still a shit-show, aren't they? I'll go with Carolina.
-
I actually have the 49ers beating the Panthers in an upset.
-
ATL.
-
I'll give this a whirl; Carolina.
-
Broncos
-
Jacksonville Jaguars at Houston Texans
-
I actually have the 49ers beating the Panthers in an upset.
Wouldn't surprise me if they came out hot in the first game with the new coaching staff. They actually have a history of that recently.
-
Houston
-
Atlanta.
-
Wow, no one picked the Pats. That woulda sucked.
-
Wow, no one picked the Pats. That woulda sucked.
Well that was never gonna be an easy game for them. Kansas City is a tough team.
-
Well. Rams 10-0 up with less than 5 mins played in Q1. It's been fun, guys... *waves*
-
Don't worry, thanks to the Jags you'll have plenty of company on the one and done stage.
-
Houston
Guess I don't have to worry about his thread anymore. :lol
-
Well, that was fun.
-
Same here. :lol
-
First pick of the season is the toughest. You never know what you're gonna get.
-
Can I still get in here with Denver?
-
As long as you post your pick before the game is scheduled to start, you're good. I picked Denver too. Hoping for a good showing.

You got it.

Kinda how I'm feeling about the 9rs this year. :P
However, this week, The Ravens look as good a choice as any.

Seattle

Raiders. That way when they finish beating the crap out of us, I'll at least know that I'm alive another week in this :lol

Yeah, but Seattle sure made it interesting!
I might change this, but Denver looks to be my pick this week - can't believe I went against them in the pick 'em game. :zeltar:
Lot of tough calls this week - not that many obvious ones.
-
Denver
-
New England (and I hate myself for it)

Packers.

I'm going Green Bay. Cinncinnati has no offense and I'm not sure the change in coordinator will help that.
-
Green Bay
-
Pats coaching staff vs. A rookie QB? YES PLEASE
New England
-
Normally, it's 'who's playing the Browns?', but this week I'll take Green Bay.
(btw, thank you, DoC, for running this again)

The Pack
-
I'll go with the Evil Empire (Pats).
-
Normally, it's 'who's playing the Browns?', but this week I'll take Green Bay.
(btw, thank you, DoC, for running this again)
The Browns are road favorites, that is how bad the Colts are.
And thank you Jags, any and all beat downs of the Rat Birds is appreciated.
-
Guess Siemian and the Bronco's were punching out of their weight-class last week.
-
Have fun guys. I'm out.
-
I'm like...Bengals winning in Green Bay? Nah... :corn
Live to pick another week...
-
I'll never forget how excited I was when I learned that the Browns were coming to Baltimore and for the first time in my 12 years on earth, I'd have a true home team to enjoy and cheer for. The Ravens were everything that I could ever hope for. I spent hundreds if not thousands of dollars supporting them over the past 20 plus years. I never could have imagined that I would no longer be a fan.
[SNIP] - See Rule 13.
Thanks for the many great memories and the two great Super Bowl seasons, but I'm now a free agent fan, in pursuit of a team that will not tolerate this foolishness. If no such team exists, then so be it.
I loved my Ravens....but some things are more important than football. I am a vet and a proud patriot, and I deserve better. We all do.
And you get a week off. You were warned.
This from the NFL thread. Looks like this survivor won't see activity for a week. Unless someone holds the fort until DoC returns.
-
This from the NFL thread. Looks like this survivor won't see activity for a week. Unless someone holds the fort until DoC returns.
Well, people can easily see if they won or lost. There is nothing stopping the winners from picking this upcoming week, whether DoC is here or not.
-
I understand that. Was just pointing out in case people here aren't necessarily regular on the NFL thread. (Highly unlikely, but you never know.)
-
DoC will most likely keep track of everything and update us when he returns. Shouldn't be a big deal.
-
Looks like we've lost 3 this week. Although it could have so easily been far worse, as Green Bay needed overtime to get over the line, and New England just scraped home.
-
Speaking of OT in GB, that was Aaron Rodgers first OT win. He was previously 0-7 (worst all-time). I couldn't believe it when they showed that stat. :omg:
-
Me and my Bronco pick will self-select ourselves with being 'out'. Good luck to the rest of ya'll.
-
I'll take over for DoC this week if no one minds, I'll post it tomorrow.
-
Sounds good to me :tup

I can't change the OP thread title. Can a mod do that for us this week?
I'm taking Dallas.

Also, anybody speak to DoC outside of forum? A week ban shouldn't be a death sentence here.

Kansas City

I'll go with Dallas too. Seems like a lock to me...hopefully.

Going with Arizona as well.
[thank you, Packers, for unnecessarily stressing me out last week]
-
Seattle.
-
Philly. It's a risk with them being on the road, but there aren't any real standout games, and if I want to save some good picks for later in the season if I make it that far.
-
I'll go with Seattle this week.
-
After lasting 13 weeks last year, I'm out [sigh] because of the Cardinals losing. Then again, some of my other 'maybe' picks lost as well. Atlanta lost. Dallas lost. Eagles won. Now we wait for the late games...........

-
Yeah, I just saw it :D and hopped on here to correct my prior post  I read it originally on ESPN that the 49ers FG was made with 2:24 left in OT after a friend texted me and said 'too bad about the Cards'. I forgot that they changed the rules to a 10 minute period this year (no way a team has possession for 12:36 on one drive). So, we live another day.
-
I was shocked that the Cardinals had a chance to win after the 9ers made that FG with so little time left. I was only checking periodically on NFL.com so I had no idea that the 9ers were the only team to possess the ball in OT at that point. I'm glad mostly everyone survived this week though, it's more fun when there are more people (unless there's money involved ).
-
I only realised last night when the Jags-Jets game went to overtime that the time limit had changed to 10 minutes.
-
That's the last time I pick my team in a survivor. Double jeopardy!! JFC!!!!! >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(
-
So in my other survivor I took Seattle...and that was 100% who I would have picked here. But in the interest of fairness, I'll take Kansas City. I aknowledge that Washington has a chance to win but rules are rules.
-
Oh and thanks to Mason for looking after the thread/game

No prob, just wished I would have survived myself. Glad to see you survived to week five despite your handicap last week.

Yeah, this week looks especially brutal, considering how things panned out the first four weeks. Lots of 'battle of the shitty teams' up there.

Kansas City.

Philadelphia

No way Id trust Cutler in any game. That assclown has fucked me over every time Ive played an elimination game such as this, whether I picked him to win or lose. Any matchup involving him is an auto Nope from me...
-
Pittsburgh got me again
-
A tip we can take from this is: If it's an odd-numbered week of the season (like this was Week 5), don't pick whoever Jacksonville are playing.

This is a tough week for me because Im weary of picking against the winless teams (something tells me that they have to win eventually, especially the Giants). Im gonna take New England, because even if Im wrong, that means my Jets take first place in the AFC East for at least a week.

'......and then there were three' (I know what I'm listening to tonight....)
There is not one game this weekend where I can pick a winner with total conviction. Even 'who are the Browns playing?' isn't a real strong choice. That being said, I still have to go with Tennessee.
-
I should've put money on the Giants last night. Today, I could've retired! :rollin
-
Im gonna go Dallas this week. I say that with no confidence whatsoever.
-
There is not one game this weekend where I can pick a winner with total conviction.
Yeah, its a tough one for sure. Yesterday, I was leaning Jacksonville for this week, but that was before Fournette got hurt. Now with Rodgers out, I think Im taking New Orleans. Itll be decent weather, I dont think GBs defense will stop Brees and Co. very well, and their offense is now crippled, literally and figuratively. For now, Im taking the odds that the Saints come marching in and have their way.
-
Im gonna go Dallas this week. I say that with no confidence whatsoever.
Can't say I blame you. If the winless Giants can go to Denver and win, then Dallas can just as easily go to the winless 9ers and lose. :lol It's been that kind of year so far.
-
At least two of us will move on. The Count has to wait for the late game.
[edit: I don't see the 'Niners making up a 37 point deficit]
After the Vikes made quick work of the Ravens (under 2 hours 45 minutes), we were treated to bonus coverage of the Titans-Browns FG fest. A 'who really cares?' ......unless you have the Titans in a DTF survivor contest! The most excitement I had all day (other than Justin Tucker's 57 yard FG). My second OT win this season in this contest.

Our three survivors have exhausted a quarter of their possible choices. Should be interesting to see who holds on.....

Seattle although I have a feeling that this week is when my run in this game ends.
-
At this point in the season, can we have a bye week? ;)
-
Lets see if picking against Indy again will yield the same result. Houston for me.
-
Tradition keeps me from taking J'ville. I'm going with Seattle as well (mostly due to the Potatoes banged up OL)
-
Fuckin A. I pick Houston and Watson tears his ACL, leaving them with Tom Savage. Changing my pick begrudgingly to the Rams. Hope that three hour time difference doesnt affect them...

It most certainly didnt. Congrats!

Congrats indeed....i'll do up the standings in a bit
...but Snow Dog is the 2017 survivor!

Well, Count, if Seattle could have made a FG. Or just settled for a FG instead of the temporary go ahead TD, we'd still be in it. Damn fun to watch something that mattered. And, darnit, I should have gone with Jacksonville. Oh, well, two years in a row I finished second.
Kudos, Snow Dog. A wise move earned the championship.
And, thanks for all of the bookkeeping, DOC.

Thanks, guys! Was a fun competition with everyone involved for sure. Kind of bummed that its over as it was a good way to increase my interest in the season, especially now that the Packers are toast with Rodgers out.
And indeed, thank you, DOC, for your efforts running the competition. Was a lot of fun participating, and will look forward to the next one!
I might keep picking on my own just to see how deep in the season I can go...

Congrats Snow Dog.

Continue on.....I know I was biting at the bit to have Detroit redeem themselves in my eyes, since they ended my run last year, by beating the Browns this week.

And Ill take that pick for you with the Lions. I was going to go ballsy and pick the Niners since the Giants are such a mess, or the Bears since the Packers dont look like they can beat anybody right now. But Cleveland is Cleveland, and Detroit is who they play. In Detroit. Its the Stone Cold Lock of the Century of the Week.

And you live to play another week.....
