The Album Artwork Survivor
When Dream And Day Unite
Images And Words
Awake
A Change Of Seasons
Falling Into Infinity
Scenes From A Memory
Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence
Train Of Thought
Octavarium
Systematic Chaos
Black Clouds & Silver Linings
A Dramatic Turn Of Events
Dream Theater
The Astonishing
Presented here are the band's 13 main studio albums, plus their EP A Change Of Seasons, which I figured I'd throw in because it's cover artwork fits in with the feel of their other early albums, so it'd be a shame to exclude it.
Now, I've been wondering if other recent album artwork survivors around here are focusing purely on the COVER artwork, or if opinions should include the inner artwork, presented in the album booklets, and perhaps even the CD tray and disc art as well. But seeing as how their earlier albums don't have much artwork outside of the covers, I'd say let's keep this strictly to the album art on the covers (unless the booklet artwork REALLY influences your choices).

I based all my Ayreon artwork polls and my choices only on the main album cover. Not sure how the other people voted. Ayreon is somewhat of a special case, though, with some of the album art being painted by hand.

I agree about keeping it about the album cover, this in a way will save The Astonishing mainly 'cause the packaging really is a let down :D

Ooh, this is going to be fun! When Dream And Day Unite gets my vote.
Also, focusing on the front cover would be good. :tup

Just use front cover & post them all in thread

Voted FII, but clearly that was the wrong choice. You sure you're voting based on album art, not music quality?
FII used the wrong DT font AND (and this is the clincher) the ridiculously faint Majesty symbol. At least WDADU (while not using the DT font) had the Majesty symbol prominent.

Yes, but coincidence wants that I like most the artwork of my favorite albums, like Scenes and Awake :D so at least from me it will look like I will consider the music, while obviously I'll know the question asked by the survivor.

Actually, if I were voting based on music quality, my vote would've been for FII.. :lol
Anyways, I'll be voting for that one next round..
Also, why the font and the symbol are more important than the artwork itself, Idk... At least *I* am voting for the cover artwork.. Not the rest of it, which is part of it, but not a sustancial part of it..

Voting BC&SL until it's gone.

WDADU
Voting BC&SL until it's gone.
I was about to wonder why you prefer the cover with the half naked guy but then I remember half of the album covers of bands you listen to are the same. :lol ;)
-
I like When Dream and Day Unite more than most people on here, but good lord is that artwork terrible.
-
Falling into infinity
I can't see what's wrong with WDADU cover...

Genuinely don't understand this comment. If anything, my collection has a very healthy percentage of covers featuring attractive women (which I thought you of all people would have noticed ;)). It's definitely not the massive sausage-fest that must be your music collection. :neverusethis:
In any case, I don't like BC&SL because of how lazily Hugh Syme put it together. It doesn't even look like a finished work to me, so I consider it worse than even WDADU for that reason.

WDADU is one of my top 5 DT albums, but the artwork is not that well executed, so yes.
-
The self titled album barely has artwork... so I'm gonna have to vote for that. I wish they just took the time (lol) to give that album an actual name and cover art.
-
Well, they took the time, it was a deliberate and conscious decision to call it that way, it's not that they ran out of ideas and said "Well, whatever, let's have a self titled".
Then of course we can debate if it was a good choice or not, personally I would have liked a "proper" title.
-
I think the cover art of DT12 is pretty cool. I often appreciate more simplistic album covers rather than making them too cluttered which happens a lot.

I'm not going to rant about everything I think looks like shit on that cover, but the standout: The mouse doesn't even have a shadow.
