Seeing as the other poll was conducted just after The Astonishing was released - Let's do it again a year later and see how the results stack up.
-
They're pretty much listed in the order I'd rank them, so yeah.
-

Yes. Every successive album being better than the one before ( for me at least ).
-
Yes, because I always rank things backwards. :\
SC alone I would have listened to more times than all of the MM era albums combined.

ST>BCSL>SC>Turn>TA

I vote for The Astonishing.
Out of the "normal" albums, I'd go for Dramatic Turn.
-
1. DT
2. ADTOE
3. TA
4. SC
5. BC&SL
-
ADTOE, with BCSL close by.
-
Still going with ADTOE. TA is a close second for me.
-
Still going with ADTOE, closely followed by DT12. TA is dead last still.
-
DT12
ADTOE
TA
BCSL
SC
-
As usual, the poll and the vocal posts are on opposite ends. :lol
-

Agree 100%
-
BC&SL
ADTOE
DT
SC
TA
Guess I'll be the only person going for Black Clouds...
-
As usual, the poll and the vocal posts are on opposite ends. :lol
What does that even mean? The posts perfectly mirror what the poll results are saying. And what is a "vocal" post anyway? Everyone's giving their opinions in much the same manner.
-
1. The Astonishing
2. A Dramatic Turn of Events
3. Dream Theater
4. Black Clouds and Silver Linings
5. Systematic Chaos
-
1. TA
2. ADTOE
3. DT

ADTOE
SC
DT12
BC&SL
TA
-
ADTOE by a landslide.
-
Nš 1: ADTOE (But imagine this album with TA production!)
About TA, I guess just only one forumer said that previously, I whish it was a bit longer, with more typical DT soloing and instrumentation within the songs and some songs more developed (and NOMACs tracks OUT ). With all that, despite the simple story concept and that still not so good drum sound, I think TA maybe would be my favorite album of their entire catalog.
-
ADTOE by a landslide.
-
1.TA
2. ADTOE
3. BC&SL
4. SC
5. DT12
-
ADTOE by a landslide.
If by landslide - you mean 1 vote you are spot on ! :neverusethis:
-
ST>BCSL>SC>Turn>TA
Hard to disagree.
-
I would say ADTOE.
-
ADTOE
TA
BCSL
The other are two are revolving between bottom spot of their catalogue and the second to last.
-
Still Dramatic.
-
ADToE> TA > SC > DT 12 > BC&SL, so, yeah, ADToE for me.

I love them all, but my ranking would be:
The Astonishing
A Dramatic Turn of Events
Systematic Chaos
DT12
Black Clouds & Silver Linings
-
An interesting poll! At this point, I'd probably rank DT12 first. A great balance of heavyness and melody. The Ashtonishing is the second on the list. Musically an excellent album, but there should be a bit more metal and technical sections to keep my interest. Still, every once in a while a must listen.
ADTOE takes the third spot. An amazing album, but for some reason I need long breaks before getting back to this album. Perhaps I overlistened to it when it was released? Then SC is fourth and BCASL fifth.
-
As usual, the poll and the vocal posts are on opposite ends. :lol
I don't know if this is necessarily true in this case, but I have noticed this trend in various corners of the internet. For example, The Force Awakens has a terrific score of 8.1/10 or something on IMDB, but almost every user review is negative. :lol
-
As usual, the poll and the vocal posts are on opposite ends. :lol
As of this post, the poll puts ADTOE leading with 38.5%.
As far as people posting their opinions, (excluding those posts that aren't listing their ranks or favorites), ADTOE is leading with 34.3%.
Seems pretty good.
-
BC&SL.
Could've gone for SC too, they're pretty close.
-
I haven't given enough listens to both TA and ADToE really, so hard for me to 100% judge. But I totally love all of DT12, so that's #1 for me.. then probably SC, BC, then ADToE and TA.
This might change the most I listen to the 2 ....

So far The Astonishing is only one vote behind Dramatic Turn.
but it's probably just because it was the most recent album... :hat

1 - BC&SL
2 - ADTOE
3 - DT
4 - TA
5 - SC

In whatever ranking, for me the triad of ADTOE, DT12, and TA are far ahead of SC and BC&SL.

Yes.
:hifive:
Chuck in Octavarium though ( my favourite Dream Theater album ) and it gets a bit trickier.
Octavarium, Systematic Chaos, Black Clouds & Silver Linings VS A Dramatic Turn Of Events, Dream Theater & The Astonishing.

But that wasn't a Roadrunner release.

Nope.
But 3 V 3.

ADTOE again...and my triad doesn't include DT12 or TA.

BlobVanDam: I haven't been on this forum too long, but so far I've agreed with EVERY single post that you've made!

Octavarium is the best album of all time for me-it has everything that I love!!
-
Honestly, the last two albums that DT has done are some of the most enjoyable stuff I have heard from them and I don't think that's the recent bias talking. I truly mean it. I still rate DT12 pretty highly and it got my vote.
Great musicianship, songs that really grabbed me from a lyrical perspective, the solos were strong but never overstayed their welcome.

Still going with The Astonishing... which for me is the best of all Dream Theater albums, not only the Roadrunner albums.

Ok I gotta know.. are you deaf, by chance? :loser:
Obv jk, but I just don't get TA yet. But to me DT12 is so good... As is BCASL. But I also like A nightmare to remember.
-
See A Nightmare To Remember is "boring" to me...
-
A Dramatic Turn of Events and it really isn't close.
1. ADTOE
2. BC&SL
3. SC
4. DT

A Dramatic Turn of Events and it really isn't close.
The results disagree with you :neverusethis:
Also - is it me or are the TA haters extra vocal about disliking it and how could anyone like it ?

Yes TA is a polarizing album for sure... glad I am on the positive team

Interesting results. I voted for ADTOE. It has aged really well.
If I remove "the fat" from The Astonishing, it would rank 1st or 2nd place. As a whole, non-edited album, it would probably rank in the bottom of the RR releases.
-
ADTOE for me. That album is aging very nicely too. It's in my current top 3. I like the subdued production and classic DT song structures. It was refreshingly familiar and slightly edges out IAW & Awake for me. Great album.
-
Be interesting to flip and make a worst roadrunner album poll.
