Title: Wasn't there at some point talk about a JP solo album?
Post by: rumborak on February 20, 2017, 07:27:30 PM
I think the last time I heard anything about it may have been before DT12. Has anybody ever asked JP about it recently?
I for one thoroughly enjoyed Suspended Animation.

I guess it's hard to work on it when you're conducting the DT train non-stop.

As far as I know he's working on it..............slowly.

You've probably already seen the preview tracks he did with G3 2012 but just in case you haven't here they are:

Cloud Ten:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HSO80P-sF4g

Zero Tolerance:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BTDOMHl1wsE

Glassy Eyed Zombies:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hiXtIS89VRw

Yes, Cloud Ten sounds poppy and what-not but it's still a damn fun song.

Okay, I will give these an actual check tomorrow, but just happened to listen to a bit of Cloud Ten before bed, and 0:37, to anyone who has seen the movie, does that not scream "Scottie doesn't know!"? Clearly probably not a source of Petrucci inspiration, but I just couldn't get it out of my head and had a good laugh.

I thought to myself, "Okay, now I have to listen to Cloud Ten." I wasn't expecting a fucking cover :rollin. Where was Matt Damon?

He was asked on one of the european Q&A sessions posted on another thread. He basically gave the same anwer he's been giving the last couple years, something along the lines of: "I have a lot of material for it, I just need to find time to record it. Would love to do it this year".

Cloud ten sounds like rockstar by Hannah Montana.

He's probably too busy singing for the Village People to record another solo album  :mehlin

There's been talk about this for the last 10 years. :lol  At this point, does it really matter anymore?

Well ... and this will likely get me flak, but at this point I'd actually prefer a JP solo album over a new DT album.

Good point.  However, when I saw the youtube video of Cloud Ten, that didn't do a lot for me either.

Maybe his plan is to release it at the same time as the Tool album

If he wrote another solo album, would it really be that different from Suspended Animation, really?

It's not like he's oddball enough to do an ambient album or a spoken word conceptual project or something

Ummm, maybe, but probably not. Not sure why that's an issue. For people that enjoyed SA that would be great.

So this means he shouldn't do another solo album? I'm not following the train of thought here. Are you saying artists shouldn't put out more than one album if the material is stylistically similar to the previous album? By that logic, DT should have never made I&W  :lol

I'd be very happy with another album like SA. Even if it's very similar to SA, that would make it different to what he's doing in DT, so why not?

I'd be totally fine with an album similar to SA, yeah. It's not as if he released SA two years ago; that thing is now 12 years old.

Agreed on both counts.
