Title: The Best of Times an Actual cover of the solo. Not note for note
Post by: Jim Gatti on December 30, 2016, 03:07:50 AM
Hey guys just finished my latest youtube video. I'm doing a lot of shredding just like my favorite guitar player of all time John Petrucci.

I'm Improvising around the underlying theme https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OXYhxFD4FkU

When you were playing the notes JP played (a lot of the big high bends) you were good, when you went and just started shredding, there were a whole lot of really off notes that sounded really sour.

Another thing is that the solo starts out slow and melodic and eventually gets more technical and faster. You just start shredding right off the bat and add nothing to the song other than a flurry of notes that don't need to be there. You're missing the point of the solo within the context of the song.

This. You definitely have the chops, so why not just cover the actual solo?
