Name a song that DT would fail at covering. (Not necessarily because they're bad, just hilarious)
It can be any era DT, current, MP, even KM, whathever.
I can imagine them doing The Phantom of the Opera, it would be awesome vocally. JLB and MP duet.

Oh god I want this and I want this now.

Imagine Portnoy doing the : Come on Barbie, Lets Go Party - in his tough guy voice :rollin
-
They don't really do Metallica well considering James doesn't sound good singing James.

ROOOAAAARRRRR
But I think the worst cover could be Napalm Death's You Suffer. They really can't just leave the song as it is, Jordan needs to play at least a little iPad solo :lol
-
The DT Barbie video would be amazing.

Come at me bros! :lol

I'm kind of thinking Green Day's American Idiot, because it would be impossible for them to restrain themselves from completely overplaying it. I can almost imagine them twitchign trying to play it without embellishment :lol

They should pull a South Park. Remember when they made Cartman sing O Holy Night and zapped him every time he sang something wrong? They should do that to JP and JR every time they play something different. :lol

WTF :lol

Cannibal Corpse - Hammer Smashed Face (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C-eYIeUPD0s), though I'd love to see Myung head-banging to some Alex Webster stuff.
But really, I can just hear James murdering Fates Warning - Guardian (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VmDgdDXH944). I'm kind of mad at him for it, though to his credit and to my knowledge he's never actually tried it.
(Yes, he was great on Life in Still Water.)

Have they ever released a Beatles cover?
They did a cover of Carry That Weight, Golden Slumbers, and The End back in the Charlie days. It's on the WDADU Demos.

I think this would be freaking awesome :lol

After hearing DT's rendition of "Gangland" I can say with confidence that they have the mojo to rework any cover into some thing cool. One thing we haven't heard them do much is classic blues. What would DT's take be on Kansas City, The Thrill is Gone, or Stormy Monday sound like?
-
Poison - Talk Dirty to me!
Kiss - I Just Wanna
Warrant - Cherry Pie
No Doubt - Just a Girl (Though JL could probably sing the :censored out of it!)
Kajagoogoo- Too Shy
I am just spouting songs off the top of my head :tdwn
-
Let me amend my last post
KISS - Lick it up! I just popped on my iPod and I immediately thought "this would be a terrible DT cover"
-
I've been wondering - was MP the driving force behind the DT full album covers (i.e. Master of Puppets, Number of the Beast, Live in Japan, Dark Side of the Moon)?
I notice they haven't done one of those in quite some time. I have enjoyed each of them

I think so, because his side projects have usually done a lot of covers also.

2112. We'd have super high expectations and it probably wouldn't sit right. Maybe 20 years ago but not now.

Rap god.
Uh, sama lamaa duma lamaa you assuming I'm a human
What I gotta do to get it through to you I'm superhuman
Innovative and I'm made of rubber
So that anything you saying ricocheting off of me and it'll glue to you
I'm never stating, more than never demonstrating
How to give a motherfuckin' audience a feeling like it's levitating
Never fading, and I know that the haters are forever waiting
For the day that they can say I fell off, they'd be celebrating
Cause I know the way to get 'em motivated
I make elevating music, you make elevator music
Btw, does Eminem do that part live? That's some insane fast talking going on!
-
He has a backup rapper do some of it
So... Which is more impressive, the supersonic speed rap or the F# section in learning to live?

This is a fun thread. Let me offer up some suggestions:
Type O Negative--Christian Woman: Actually, just about anything by Type O would be quite interesting. No doubt it would work musically, but there is no way I can imaging James doing the deep gothic vocals that Peter Steele was awesome at.
Garth Brooks---Friends in Low Places: I could envision them trying this as an acoustic cover, but outside of that it's hard to imagine DT taking a stab at country music.
LL Cool J--Mama Said Knock You Out: I guess if Anthrax could have a minor hit with a rap cover, perhaps DT could do the same. However, it would more likely be the MTV Unplugged version they would try.
Falco--Rock Me Amadeus: The juxtiposition of DT's progressive sound and the new wave of the mid 80's tickles my funny bone.
Toni Basil--Mickey: I wonder how many beers it would take to get James to try to sing this one.

Edguy, a power / heavy metal band from Germany, covered that. It turned out horrible for me :lol

Give It To Me Good by Trixter :-)

Rockit....Herbie Hancock
Clowny Clown Clown....Crispin Glover
