Title: Iron Maiden Survivor 2016 - Results & Discussion v. We have a winner...

Welcome, one and all, to the Iron Maiden Survivor! It’s been over two years since these legends of metal have had a survivor on DTF, so I think this is long overdue. I know the Irons have a lot of fans here, so hopefully we’ll have a lot of people voting in this survivor.

It’s worth noting that this is the first time I’m doing one of these, so if anyone more experienced than I has any suggestions on how to make this proceed more smoothly, I’m all ears. That said, I think I have a pretty good idea of what I’m doing.

Rules:

A few questions for participants:

Please, I do want input from those participating on how to handle these issues. Or if there's anything else you think I should change.

The survivor itself will probably start towards the end of the week. I want to get some of these technical things figured out and to be able to make sure we have a sufficient number of voters before we launch into this massive undertaking. That’ll also give people enough time to relisten to Iron Maiden and Killers, since I anticipate running those two at the same time. Anyway, please participate and give feedback about the rules!

Title: Re: The Iron Maiden Survivor 2016: Main Thread + Questions for Participants!
Post by: 425 on January 30, 2016, 02:59:25 PM
Having had this post reserved from the start, I'll now add this message so that there's some document of it at the start of the main thread for posterity:

I ran this survivor from the beginning through the first few rounds of finals. Unfortunately, as time went on, I had less and less time to check DTF and post survivor threads on a regular basis. This created a real problem for the progress of the survivor. At this time, I handed the survivor over to wolfking on his request. This would not have been finished if it weren't for him, so he deserves to be credited right up here at the top of the thread for his role in this.

Thanks to wolfking, co-host of the Iron Maiden Survivor 2016-17, for carrying it across the finish line!

It sounds like you are going to be a pro at running this thing.

I'm cool with having the bonus tracks in any type of a poll, either in a separate poll or with their corresponding album.

This will be cool!

I wouldn't bother with the bonus tracks. While I actually like Total Eclipse, none of those are going to make it past the album voting. At two days per song, you're adding 16 days onto the the thing. If anybody here says they'd put one of those in the top three of their respective albums then I stand corrected.

You might consider staggering the two rounds so that there's a new one every day. I say that, of course, since I don't have to run the thing.  :lol

Thirty-two+ songs are definitely too many for the finals. However, I have no idea what you could do about it.

I'm in

Thank you for running this.

I don't have any strong opinions on how to run this.  I know I normally would be big on doing a bonus round of songs, but honestly the ones you listed are the only really good b-sides.  I know others really like the stuff from "Best of the B-sides" but I know I particularly do not.  But whatever you chose is fine by me.  IM is my favorite band so I plan on participating regardless.

I think it makes sense to include Sanctuary, Twilight Zone and Total Eclipse, for the reasons you stated.

Women in Uniform et al. don't need to be included at all, I feel.  But I wouldn't mind if you wanted to do a Best of the B-sides round or something.  Women in Uniform is terrible anyway haha.

2. Any schedule is fine by me.
3. I think one song from each album going to Consolations is fine.

This. Keep these three and forget the rest.

2 winners and 1 song to consolation sounds fine to me as well.

The only other bsides worth imo are the ones from the X factor, those songs are better than some of the tracks on the album.  But I am fine with just including these three songs, they are on all of my IM CDs so I've always thought of them as album tracks even though I know they technically were not originally.

You might consider staggering the two rounds so that there's a new one every day. I say that, of course, since I don't have to run the thing.  :lol

This is what I planned to do. Say I start Iron Maiden on Wednesday, I'll start Killers on Thursday. That type of thing.

Thirty-two+ songs are definitely too many for the finals. However, I have no idea what you could do about it.

Yeah, I don't think it's possible to avoid having that many songs in the finals, because I think having fewer than one per album is too restrictive—try choosing just one finals-worthy song from Powerslave, for example. But I do think one song per album to consolations will be sufficient, so we'll have about 16 songs in consolations and take the top two for the epic 34 song finals.

What I'm hearing on bonus tracks is that nobody cares about Women in Uniform and a few people care about the X Factor bonus tracks. Anyone object to a short little three-song survivor of those tracks, run at the same time as the album survivor, where the winner gets a spot in consolations? Seems like the best way to work those in, and if most people truly don't care about them, the winner of the mini-survivor will get voted out of consolations quickly.

Sanctuary will definitely be included with the debut—some initial pressings of the album included it, and it appears frequently live, so I can't see why not include it. I'm pretty convinced that including Twilight Zone on Killers and Total Eclipse on The Number of the Beast is fair enough as well. They've been considered "part of the albums" since 1998, so a lot of younger (<30) fans consider them to be part of those albums. And I don't think Total Eclipse, at least, will finish last on its album.

If anyone has additional input, I'm still open to it.

As indicated earlier, I'm planning to get Iron Maiden started on Wednesday and Killers started on Thursday. That should give people enough time to relisten to those albums if they feel that they have to.

Count me in..

So... about the questions, I don't mind about the first two.. Regarding the songs going to the finals, I don't understand why there should be a problem with 34 songs on it.. They have 16 albums.. If you've decided to do this survivor, thing that we all appreciate, then you wanna do it as if you're doing it for a younger band, or any other band.. The more albums, the more songs going to the finals.. I don't see the problem with that.. Ok, it'll take long to get to the winner, but more time of IM's survivor and more suspense.. ;)
Title: Re: The Iron Maiden Survivor 2016: Main Thread + Questions for Participants!
Post by: 425 on February 03, 2016, 05:34:07 PM
Just got the first thread going. Here's what I've decided on the big questions:

1) Bonus tracks will be in a separate survivor, probably run concurrently with The X Factor since most/all of them come from that era. We'll finalize a list by the time we get to that point in the survivor.

2) We are going to do 48 hour rounds with two rounds simultaneously. I started Iron Maiden round 1 tonight, Killers round 1 will start around the same time tomorrow night.

3) As big as a finals of 34 songs is, I think ToT-147 is completely right that it is absolutely necessary. Therefore, the finals will consist of the top two songs from each album and the top two songs from consolations. Consolations will feature the third-place song from each album that has 8 or 9 tracks, and the third- and fourth-place songs from each album that has 10, 11 or 12 tracks. The reason for this is that with this variation in numbers, the percentage of an album that makes either finals or consolations will be between 33% and 40%. My thinking has always been that the ideal situation is an album of 8 tracks where 2 make finals and 1 makes consolations, because this is significantly less than half and more than a quarter: 37.5%. With the variation in number, no album will have more than 4/10 of its songs in a finals or consolations round or fewer than 1/3, so this makes perfect sense to me.

With these numbers in mind, consolations will have 26 songs—25 from albums and 1 from the winner of the bonus track survivor.

As stated, first album survivor is up! Go forth and vote!

Iron Maiden Round 8 Results:

Remember Tomorrow - 15 votes - 75.0%
Phantom of the Opera - 5 votes - 25.0%

Phantom of the Opera is the Iron Maiden album champion!

____________

We're still a couple of rounds away from being done with the Killers survivor, and in the interest of organization, I want to start the next two albums at the same time. So until Killers is finished, it'll be the only album running, and then once its final round is over, I'll start the The Number of the Beast and then Piece of Mind 24 hours later. So if you want to relisten to those two albums, you probably have something like 4-6 days before their survivors begin.

There's gonna be an album survivor as well?

I mean, we can do that. I didn't have specific plans to, but it could be a fun bonus thing.

5. Flash of the Blade
6. The Duelists
7. Back in the Village

Great results! I knew it would be impossible for me to get Flash of the Blade into the top 3 but atleast both finalists are the ones I would've picked and Aces High is my #4.

Looking forward to Seventh Son :metal

Powerslave survivor went exactly as I wanted it, a pity however that Powerslave didn't win for just a vote.

Man I already have headaches about the Seventh Son one, the No Prayer one will be cathartic after that one!

Stranger has nothing on Wasted Years, boo!  :tdwn

Also, i personally love Heaven Can Wait. Bummed that it ended up at the 6th spot. I know it isn't that loved but still is the most played (at live concerts) song from this album.

Seventh Son of a Seventh Son Round 7 Results:

Infinite Dreams - 14 votes - 50.0%
Seventh Son of a Seventh Son - 14 votes - 50.0%

Total Votes Received (Second Tiebreaker):
Infinite Dreams - 27 votes
Seventh Son of a Seventh Son - 21 votes

Seventh Son of a Seventh Son is the Seventh Son of a Seventh Son album champion!

Results:
1. Seventh Son of a Seventh Son
2. Infinite Dreams
3. The Evil That Men Do
4. Moonchild
5. The Clairvoyant
6. Only the Good Die Young
7. The Prophecy
8. Can I Play With Madness

____________

Alright, I'm pretty happy with the way that turned out. Given the choice, I probably would have put The Clairvoyant in consolations instead of The Evil That Men Do, but the difference in quality between those songs is so razor thin that my preference for The Clairvoyant there is like I would prefer it 51% of the time to 49% for The Evil, so I'm good with this. The top two were the right top two.

I'm going to go ahead and start up the spinoff Album Survivor (which will have no effect on the results of the main survivor) right now, and that will run alongside the No Prayer for the Dying survivor, and then keep running as Fear of the Dark and The X Factor start on schedule. So there will be a time when three survivors are running at once, but one of those three will just be a spinoff, while there will still just be two main survivors.

I also plan to run a live album survivor sometime down the road. If there are any other spinoff survivors that people think would be good, please let me know!

We could have, if not a survivor 'cause it would be too long and tedious, a b-sides match.

Maybe a poll with multiple choices, "pick your favorite 5-10" or something like that, to have more songs to eliminate at once.

No Prayer for the Dying Round 9 Results:

No Prayer for the Dying - 8 votes - 38.1%
Mother Russia - 13 votes - 61.9%

No Prayer for the Dying is the No Prayer for the Dying album champion!

Results:
1. No Prayer for the Dying
2. Mother Russia
3. Run Silent Run Deep
4. Tailgunner
5. Public Enema Number One
6. Holy Smoke
7. Fates Warning
8. The Assassin
9. Hooks In You
10. Bring Your Daughter... To the Slaughter

____________

Well, that one did get my top 3. It messed with the order a bit, as I would have the title track third and Mother Russia first, but it went alright, nonetheless.

Fear of the Dark got underway yesterday; The X Factor begins right now, and the album survivor continues as normal.

I have Eddie's archive so I have the Best of the B-Sides CDs, but after my initial listenings, I don't come back to it because I find most of the songs aren't good personally.

My personal favorites

Women in Uniform
I've Got the Fire
Virus
Judgement Day
Justice of the Peace

Virus which was a fun song

Fear of the Dark Round 11 Results:

Afraid to Shoot Strangers - 7 votes - 36.8%
Fear of the Dark - 12 votes - 63.2%

Afraid to Shoot Strangers is the Fear of the Dark album champion!

Results:
1. Afraid to Shoot Strangers
2. Fear of the Dark
3. Be Quick or Be Dead
4. Judas Be My Guide
5. Wasting Love
6. The Fugitive
7. Fear Is the Key
8. From Here to Eternity
9. Childhood's End
10. Chains of Misery
11. The Apparition
12. Weekend Warrior

____________

I mostly agree with the results here. Personally, I think Be Quick or Be Dead ended up a bit too high, but I'm not too sad about Wasting Love missing out on consolations, because I don't think it really deserves it.

We're going to go ahead and let The X Factor finish out, and then get Virtual XI and Brave New World going. I'll try to be better about posting threads every day. I'll also plan to start a live album survivor once the studio album survivor finishes.

As regards the b-side survivor, there doesn't really seem to be a lot of interest. I don't know many of those and wouldn't participate myself, and MirrorMask and cramx3 are the only ones who expressed interest in this thread. So I'm going to go ahead and say I'm not going to run that one unless there's a flood of interest all of a sudden, but if MirrorMask or someone else wants to run it as an "Iron Maiden Spinoff" and see if it can get enough voters to work, I wouldn't mind that.

Album Survivor Round 15 Results:

Somewhere In Time - 15 votes - 60.0%
Seventh Son of a Seventh Son - 10 votes - 40.0%

Seventh Son of a Seventh Son is the album survivor champion!

Results:
1. Seventh Son of a Seventh Son

10. The Final Frontier
11. Iron Maiden
12. Killers
13. The X Factor
14. Fear of the Dark
15. No Prayer for the Dying
16. Virtual XI

____________

These results pretty much match up with what I expected to see. I like the reunion albums and The X Factor more than the consensus does, but what else is new. SSOASS wouldn't necessarily be my first choice, but it's a worthy album to sit atop that list nonetheless.

Alright, we're going to have a big switchover in 48 hours once The X Factor ends. Hopefully that switchover will see me being more timely with these threads. I did pretty well for the first 8 albums, so hopefully I can pick that back up now.

Here's how things are going to go. In 48 hours, when The X Factor is over, Virtual XI will begin. 24 hours after that, Brave New World will begin. At one of those times (I haven't decided yet), a live album survivor will also start. Here's what I'm definitely going to include in that:

Live After Death
Maiden England
A Real Live One/A Real Dead One
Live At Donington
Rock In Rio
Death on the Road
Flight 666
En Vivo!

I'd like some input on two things:

Thanks, everybody.

Is Maiden japan an official release?  I always thought that was just a bootleg.  Beast Over Hammersmith should be included though, that's an official release apart of Eddie's archive and some of the videos are found on one of their DVDs (I think the history pt 1 DVD).

I think Maiden Japan was quasi-official but didn't have that broad of a release.

And regarding Raising Hell, I suppose it could count, but I don't think many people have it (I don't have it). And it's pretty much just that FotD setlist, which is also basically featured on Donington and Real Live Dead, so it's not like we'd be missing too much without it.

I'm ok with having A Real Live and Dead one separated, Maiden Japan was originally actually released in its time if I recall correctly, Beast over Hammersmith was only released in 2002 as part of Eddie's Archive, and thus it could be discarded (but I wouldn't cry havoc over Maiden Japan of course).

About the album rankings, I've long accepted that I'm one of the very few - along with Bruce, hehe! - that isn't really crazy over Somewhere in Time, and I also truly love Dance of Death, its very highs redeem also the low bits of the album. I would have had Piece of Mind, Seventh Son and Dance of Death itself finishing up above.

The X Factor Round 10 Results:

Sign of the Cross - 2 votes - 12.5%
The Edge of Darkness - 14 votes - 87.5%

Sign of the Cross is the The X Factor album champion!

Results:
1. Sign of the Cross
2. The Edge of Darkness
3. The Aftermath
4. Fortunes of War
5. Lord of the Flies
6. Blood on the World's Hands
7. Judgement of Heaven
8. Man on the Edge
9. 2 AM
10. The Unbeliever
11. Look for the Truth

____________

The Unbeliever as low as it ended up is an absolute scandal, that's a great song. But that aside, I mostly agree with the rankings here. I'd probably put Blood on the World's Hands ahead of Lord of the Flies and Look for the Truth ahead of Man on the Edge, but for the most part I agree with this, egregious Unbeliever stuff aside.

Virtual XI just began. Brave New World and the live album survivor start tomorrow. I anticipate including both Beast Over Hammersmith and Maiden Japan, though I imagine they'll both go out pretty early due to people not knowing them and liking all the rest.

I'm starting up Dance of Death right now. A Matter of Life and Death will start tomorrow, and I'll actually start that live album survivor that I said was going to happen but didn't.

With Dance of Death I think most the fanbase agrees on what are the best tracks and what the lesser ones, with AMOLAD however the album is entirely consistent (not really among my favorites however, but still I realize its general strength) that I expect since the beginning many votes equally spread among most of the songs.
Title: Re: Iron Maiden Survivor 2016 - Results & Discussion

Yeah AMOLAD is probably the one I'm looking forward to most. Not only one of my favorite IM albums, but one where I have no idea what the favorites are. I fear The Pilgrim will go out way too soon though for some reason, love that song personally.

As for Dance of Death, I can't rank anything close to Paschendale but I think it's still a pretty good album overall and there's at least 4-5 songs on it that I adore.

Dance of Death Round 10 Results:

Dance of Death - 19 votes - 82.6%
Paschendale - 4 votes - 17.4%

Paschendale is the Dance of Death album champion!

Results:
1. Paschendale
2. Dance of Death
3. Rainmaker
4. Journeyman
5. No More Lies
6. Montsegur
7. Face in the Sand
8. Wildest Dreams
9. Age of Innocence
10. Gates of Tomorrow
11. New Frontier

____________

I basically agree with these results, with the exception of Face in the Sand, which I would have higher, in the top four. I understand that it's a pretty deep cut, though, even as reunion tracks go, so I'm not surprised to see it further down the list. Paschendale is definitely deserving of #1 and Dance of Death is as good a song for finals as any other on this album, though I might have given the spot to Face in the Sand.

A Matter of Life and Death Round 9 Results:

These Colours Don't Run - 13 votes - 59.1%
The Longest Day - 9 votes - 40.9%

The Longest Day is the A Matter of Life and Death album champion!

Results:
1. The Longest Day
2. These Colours Don't Run
3. The Legacy
4. For the Greater Good of God
5. Brighter Than a Thousand Suns
6. The Pilgrim
7. The Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg
8. Lord of Light
9. Different World
10. Out of the Shadows

____________

I've made my opinion clear on this one: I think this album survivor was an absolute disaster. These Colours Don't Run should not have made finals. It should not have made consolations. It should not have made the top half of the rankings. Instead, it and The Longest Day (which is good but not nearly the best one—I'd have it at #5) make finals, forcing the best two to consolations and my #3 and #4—Brighter Than a Thousand Suns and Lord of Light—out entirely. Terrible job, everyone! :P

The Final Frontier starts right now. The Book of Souls starts tomorrow. I haven't forgotten about the live album survivor, but I just haven't had the time lately to keep up with three survivors. I'll run that one concurrently with consolations.

I've got an idea for a spinoff survivor... the best unplayed song!

On one hand it could be fun to have a survivor of only songs that Maiden never played live... on the other hand, it could potentially be a waste time and we could directly ask "Which song do you prefer, Alex the Great or Empire of the Clouds?" (Unless someone has some hidden love for Quest for Fire)

Interesting idea.... so many amazing songs IM have chose not to play live.

To the best of my knowledge, which is surely great but I don't claim to be a Maiden wiki, the list would be as it follows:

Innocent Exile?
Prodigal Son?
Invaders
Gangland
Quest for Fire
Sun and Steel
Flash of the Blade
The Duellists
Back in the Village
Deja-Vu
Alexander the Great
The Prophecy
Only the Good Die Young
Fates Warning
The Assassin?
Run Silent, Run Deep
Mother Russia
Fear is the Key
Childhood's End
The Fugitive
Chains of Misery
The Apparition
Judas Be My Guide
Weekend Warrior
Look for the Truth
Judgement of Heaven
2 AM
The Unbeliever
Como Estais Amigos
The Nomad
The Thin Line between Love and Hate
Montsegur
Gates of Tomorrow
New Frontier
Face in the Sand
Age of Innocence
Mother of Mercy
The Alchemist
Isle of Avalon
Starblind
The Man who Would be King
The Great Unknown
When the River Runs Deep
Shadows of the Valley
The Man of Sorrows
Empire of the Clouds

Innocent Exile was played back in '81. (https://ironmaidencommentary.com/?url=tour02_killers/tour02_killers&lang=eng&link=tours)
The Assassin was played in '90. (https://ironmaidencommentary.com/?url=tour08_npftd/tour08_npftd&lang=eng&link=tours)

I'll double-check that list, but I think you got the rest of it right. This could indeed be a fun survivor to do, though I do think there will be some expected ones that rise to the top.

The Final Frontier Round 9 Results:

Isle of Avalon - 6 votes - 26.1%
The Talisman - 17 votes - 73.9%

Isle of Avalon is The Final Frontier album champion!

Results:
1. Isle of Avalon
2. The Talisman
3. When the Wild Wind Blows
4. Coming Home
5. Starblind
6. The Man Who Would Be King
7. Mother of Mercy
8. Satellite 15... The Final Frontier
9. El Dorado
10. The Alchemist

____________

So, this turned out to almost exactly fit my tastes on this album, except with the huge caveat of one of my very favorite Iron Maiden songs being kicked to #5 and eliminated from the survivor entirely. That egregious event aside, I think the two finals choices are very good and When the Wild Wind Blows is the right choice for consolations. I do think there are at least two and possibly three better songs than Coming Home that did not make consolations. On the whole I'd say my feelings on this result are very mixed.

The Book of Souls Round 10 Results:

If Eternity Should Fail - 19 votes - 73.1%
Empire of the Clouds - 7 votes - 26.9%

Empire of the Clouds is The Book of Souls album champion!

Results:
1. Empire of the Clouds
2. If Eternity Should Fail
3. The Book of Souls
4. The Red and the Black
5. Tears of a Clown
6. Shadows of the Valley
7. Speed of Light
8. Death or Glory
9. When the River Runs Deep
10. The Great Unknown
11. The Man of Sorrows

____________

My views on this album aren't as firmly formed as they are on the other 15, because this one is so much newer and is the first one to have come out after my phase of intense Iron Maiden fandom. However, like on TFF, I would say that my general assessment is that I agree with the results except for one song which I think is being severely underrated. In this case, that song is The Man of Sorrows, which came in last place, but I think is actually among the best songs on the album. I would have it at least at #5 and maybe higher. Aside from that, though, I think things went pretty well. I'd probably put one of the other two epics in the finals in place of If Eternity Should Fail, but it's hard to argue with the high placement of that one, either.

I was going to run a quick bonus track survivor including Virus, Judgment Day, Justice of the Peace and potentially Women In Uniform, which would send one winner to consolations. But when I asked about bonus tracks way back in January, no one seemed to care. So unless people speak up and say that they want that survivor to happen, I'm just going to start consolations, which will be exceedingly long as is. Personally, I like Virus potentially enough to want it in consolations, but I don't know any of the others, and don't, like, need Virus to make it high in consolations and go to finals or anything, so I'm fine whatever way people want to go on the bonus tracks.

I'm going to start the live album spinoff tonight. If at least two people post in this thread within the next 36 hours saying they want the bonus track survivor, I'll start that tomorrow night, but if not, I'll just start consolations and we'll toss the bonus tracks to the side.

As much as I'd enjoy a survivor of the bonus tracks, none of them would stand a chance against the album songs in the finals or even consolation rounds, so why bother.  ;)

If we do bonus songs, I will participate, but Im fine without them.  I think I said before, most of the Iron Maiden b-sides besides the ones mentioned aren't very good IMO.

How about we do it as a bonus, unofficial survivor just for fun for the few actually interested? it's fun to discuss the bonus tracks among diehard fans but let's get real, in an actual survivor they will be eliminated anyway.

So I vote yes, but unofficially and for fun only.

Seems like the general consensus is to do a separate bonus track survivor that doesn't connect to the main survivor. That sounds good to me. I'm going to start consolations now because I said I was going to and then like left DTF for several days.

Ranking For Top Four (Total Consolations Votes Received):

The Number of the Beast - 12 votes
Aces High - 2 votes
The Evil That Men Do - 0 votes
Rainmaker - 10 votes

The Evil That Men Do is the consolations champion! Aces High, Rainmaker and The Number of the Beast will advance to finals along with it.

Results:
1. The Evil That Men Do
2. Aces High
3. Rainmaker
4. The Number of the Beast
5. The Book of Souls
6. Where Eagles Dare
7. The Legacy
8. Coming Home
9. Blood Brothers
10. For the Greater Good of God
11. When the Wild Wind Blows
12. Journeyman
13. The Wicker Man
14. Stranger in a Strange Land
15. The Red and the Black
16. Futureal
17. Transylvania

20. Murders in the Rue Morgue
21. Run Silent Run Deep
22. Purgatory
23. Be Quick or Be Dead
24. Judas Be My Guide
25. Tailgunner

____________

Three out of these four advancing songs are absolutely no surprise to me. They are genuine Maiden classics, among their most popular songs, from what are likely their three best-loved albums. Rainmaker is a bit of a shocker. I wasn't sure if we'd see anything from the reunion era make it out of consolations, but I figured if we did, it would probably be one of the epics, like The Legacy. Rainmaker just doesn't seem like the kind of song capable of making this sort of run, at first—but I guess it makes sense because I think virtually every Maiden fan likes it, while most of the reunion epics are loved by some and disliked by others.

Either way, we're about to start finals. I know this survivor has been longer than it originally seemed like it would be, thanks to a couple of long breaks taken by yours truly, and we still have a bit more to go because this will be a massive finals round, but I'm glad everyone participated in it and made it what I think has been a big success. Couldn't have done it without your patience and your votes.

I haven't forgotten about the small bonus tracks survivor. I'll run that at some point alongside finals, so if you're interested in those, keep an eye out for that.

Finals begins today...

I already mentioned this in the most recent thread, but just so that everything is all in one place, I'll announce it here is well.

It is probably clear to most of you by now that I am no longer an active DTF participant. It is probably clear to all of you that I have been a derelict survivor host for probably at least six months now. When I first took this on, I expected to have the time to update rounds daily and I expected to finish it by December 2016. Circumstances changed, and neither of those turned out to be true. I probably should have made other arrangements for the survivor once I started having these scheduling problems, but I didn't. I'm sorry about any frustration this has caused.

I really want to see this survivor finished, but it is obvious that I do not have the time to do it. This morning, wolfking messaged me asking to take over the survivor, and I agreed. He is a reliable and active member who will definitely see this through, so I know this will be better off under his control. From now on, he is fully in charge of the survivor.

I hope to talk to many of you again, even though I am no longer very active on this site.

Thanks again for participating in our survivor, especially those who hung with it when my schedule made things difficult! Enjoy the rest of it!

I probably won't bother getting 425 to update the main thread, I'll just finish the finals and be done with it.  It will be good to see how these final results turn out.

I will start Monday my time, so about two days from now, and I will run perhaps a round a day, or if that's too quick a round every two days.  I would like to do a round a day though if possible, but if I'm going to miss people I'll extend.  Please post if you have an issue with daily rounds.

I'm fine with daily rounds, let's see what the other regulars think however.

And I know I'm way ahead on this and we're just now restarting the finals, but... out of all the possible spin-off survivors, such as live albums, I wanted to toss around the idea of an album covers survivor.

We could have a singles covers survivor (We all know The Trooper's would beat Dance of Death's anyway) and have the better voted covers compete along the 16 album covers (or more, if we sneak in live albums as well).

So, it's all over! this is the top 15:

1. Hallowed Be Thy Name
2. Seventh Son of A Seventh Son
3. The Trooper
4. Powerslave
5. Rime of the Ancient Mariner
6. The Evil That Men Do
7. Aces High
8. Infinite Dreams
9. Paschendale
10. Dance of Death
11. Fear of the Dark
12. Ghost of the Navigator
13. Revelations
14. Afraid to Shoot Strangers
15. Rainmaker

Let's say Maiden honor us by performing this top 15 live, how would you organize the setlist? with so many epics it's unrealistic, but here's my try:

Aces High
Rainmaker
The Trooper
Revelations
Infinite Dreams
Dance of Death
The Evil That Men Do
Rime of the Ancient Mariner
Powerslave
Paschendale
Seventh Son of A Seventh Son
Fear of the Dark
Iron Maiden (c'mon, this has to be in it anyway)
==========
Afraid to Shoot Strangers
Ghost of the Navigator
Hallowed Be Thy Name

Oh, cool, glad to see this made it to the end! No surprise to see Hallowed winning it all and Seventh Son right up there, but I'm a little surprised that The Trooper made it all the way up to third! I know it's well-loved, but I didn't know it was quite that well-loved! I'm also a little surprised to see Powerslave beat Rime, but I guess it's hard to go wrong with those.

Obviously, my list would be rather different, given my love for the reunion era, but this is a pretty good list that aside.

I'll edit these final results into the first post. Thanks to Wolfking for taking this over for me and carrying it across the finish line!
