Huge congratulations, guys! That's a big date, it's actually almost unthinkable; I guess most bands are slowing down at this point, but DT are still making quality albums at tight schedule, rocking in full force. 30 years of releasing mostly outstanding, top-notch music is incredibly impressive to say the least.

And also huge thank you for not forgetting some less-attended-by-metal-bands countries with your live shows. See you again at 3rd or July!

Thanks for so many great musical memories!  Images & Words rocked my world in 1992, and you've been my favorite band ever since (and now, the favorite of my daughters as well)!

Happy 30th Anniversary!

What an awesome idea!

Many, many congratulations for 30-years of timeless music!  And I wish you (and all of us) many happy returns!

Thank you for the music written, the laughs shared, the tears shed, and the memories made.  I pray that The Lord will continue to shine and shower His Blessings on you five talented men and your families.

Happy Anniversary!

Other than Rush, I have never been so impacted by a band as I have Dream Theater.   Maybe even moreso.   Still the only band that I have travelled out of state (twice!) to see...sometimes on only a wing and a prayer.

Thank you for the incredible music over the last 30 years.   The J-Dude absolutely abides...

For 30 years you have been with me through thick and thin.
Not only the timeless music but the thoughtful, emotional lyrics.
"The Spirit Carries On", and "Take Away My Pain" have so much meaning for me.
8th September 2010, a big day?
MP leaves Dream Theater.
I have major coronary heart attack and "died" twice while on the operating table having emergency operation.
Both instances where life changing.
Would I be normal again, and would Dream Theater persevere through this major change?
I am pleased to announce both have survived and are now stronger than ever.
Due to this date I feel forever linked with the band.
So thank you for all the  pleasure you have given me for 30 years, and here's to many more.
Thanks you John P, John M, James, Jordan, Mike M, Mike P, Kevin, Derek and Charlie.

Happy 30th anniversary to DT, the most important band in the universe for me and my musical influences. DT opened my eyes to music world when I was 11 years old and I haven't regret a second. DT is like a fat chocolate cake after long hard gym session or your favourite team winning world championships, just cannot resist loving it.

Thank you John, John, James, Jordan, Mike, Mike, Kevin, Derek and Charlie for the amazing journey. This has been awesome and hopefully there will still be many years and albums to come. I love you.  :heart

In 1992 I was looking for something Rush like that was a little heavier. Images & Words came out and I was hooked.  The first time I saw the band live was in 1993 in a R.I. amusement park and I've seen ever tour but Train Of Thought. Thank you and congratulations on 30 years!

Congratulations on your 30th anniversary, guys! I have so much respect for you staying together for so long as a strong team and in a friendly way. While producing the most magnificent music. I was hooked after Score, my mouth hung open for the entire show. I'd never seen such high skill, let alone on every front. Every member is a master in what he does, and I feel like every member stays true to his passions; doesn't get carried away by fame or expectations. That deserves some praise. ;D

All those things add up to the great examples you make to me and every one of the DT fans, I'm sure. I can't wait for the DT music that's still to come :metal

First time I saw DT was when they opened for Iron Maiden at The Ritz in 1992. Within 30 seconds, I knew I had a new favorite band. Standing at the stage at those early shows at Axis in Boston was mindblowing. The soundtrack to my adult life.

Congrats DT!

Haven't been on here in forever :D

Dream Theater has helped me through so many journeys on my life. I remember when I first heard of them on Headbangers Ball. I was blown away...Got the CD and Cassette tape of Images and Words...even more amazed. Saw them in Seattle as KISW Rising Stars for $9.99...And was hooked. Seen them numerous times...Made friends with alot of people from the forums...I remember who I was dating by when the cds came out. Dream Theater has been a integral part of my life since 1991.

Thank you for the music...the memories and for the friends I have made through your music.

For 30 years where have I been? I may been around for just for 1/3 of this period, but it was definitely awesome to accompany every album since Octavarium and been on intense anxiety on every info delivered for new albums, shows on my city, new setlists etc.
Thank you for making that period way more happy! Happy 30th anniversary, DT!

About five or six years ago, I met who is now my boyfriend[Scott] of 4 years. He had introduced me to one hell of a band, his personal favorite, Dream Theater. Right away, I fell in love with "Forsaken" off of Systematic Chaos, and that song helped me through some rough moments. My boyfriend at the time was very manipulative and possessive, and yet he was cheating on me. When I finally cut that relationship off, I had listened to more DT, and it helped me through the pain. Scott and I bonded through our love of metal, and my newfound love for DT. It never seems to fail... If one is mad at the other, and the other puts on "I Walk Beside You," we're happy again, and singing our hearts out to it. Because of him, we've seen DT twice, once of which we were in the front [his life dream, besides meeting them, of course]. Because of DT, I discovered some great music, and a great man to enjoy it with. Thank you for being there through some hard times, in mine, and many other's, lives.

Happy 30th to you, Dream Theater :heart

Since I heard the "Images And Words" album back in '92 my life in music change 360°, then I heard "When Dream And Day Unite" and it was really impressive, nethertheless I was hit by songs as "Surrounded", the phrase "...find all you need in your mind, if you take the time" and obviously "Metropolis Pt1: The Miracle And The Sleeper", this record came with me wherever I go, and at that time in my country (Perú) wasn´t easy to get DT material, so when I found other people who like them, we just spend hours and hours taking, blowing our minds with the music, etc, etc.... So It was a really beautiful moment in my life (and for sure the other's life too!!!) and still it is, every album you released has been waited with fully respect and a hugh amount of anxiety, I see you in Lima in 2010, and nothing could prepare me for what I feel that night, I remember the main solo of voices, maybe John didn't remember (so many times he play it) but for me, the way that he accent the beginning of the solo with the tremolo bar was EVERYTHING!!!, I felt tears approuching and fell no sorry at all, cause I was just exited to see the most amazing band in my world, whose music stay with me so many years and I know It will be until the end of my days in this world, I rediscovered DT with "Metropolis Pt2:Scenes From A Memory" and "Black Clouds & Silver Linings", and now with "Dream Theater" album the group is sounding stronger than ever.... than you guys, thank you for so many years of happiness and thank you for have been and be the inspiration for generations of new musicians who have making and extraordinary work, breaking the walls of the metal genere for good, HAPPY 30TH ANNIVERSARY GUYS!!!! I keep the hope to see you again, cheers!!!!!!! :metal

Even if I almost don't listen to your albums.
Even if your last records we're a bit disappointing to me.
Even if I worry how much time will pass until you won't be able to perform your own songs.
Even if I wish you made something as experimental and crazy as Six Degrees.
Even if I wanted JR to unleash his complete potential more often.

...

Thank you. For opening my eyes to new kinds of music - no, to music in general! I wouldn't have taken music as something serious, something more as a hobby or catchy radio tunes, but as an art.

Thank you, for I'll never be able to express in words the colossal magnitude of importance DT had in my life a few years ago, showing me how wrong was I about "there isn't great music being made today".

Thank you...

For everything.

A heartfelt and sincere congratulations on 30 years! To every current and former member of the band...you made a significant impact
on me as a lover of music and as a musician. Significant. This story has been told many times before but it needs repeating here. I heard
Pull Me Under back in the day on a late night FM radio program in Flint that focused on new music. I was a gigging hair metal drummer
back then and though I loved that genre of music I also loved Pink Floyd, Rush, Triumph, Supertramp, Sabbath, Maiden....but from
the moment of the intro to PMU and until the song ended I was BLOWN AWAY and had never heard anything like it before. The very
next day I motored to my local record store in my Plymouth Fury (which was so big my band mates called the back seat the back yard)
and bought Images And Words. Honestly, without exaggeration, my musical life was transformed after that album. It was a landmark
moment for me. Portnoy blew me away and so did everyone else in the band. I realized I had a lot to learn about being a serious drummer.
I became a hard core DT fan and bought every DT album after that. And most importantly, for reasons I'm not quite sure, I felt
the need to spread the word so I would buy multiple copies and give them away to friends and fellow musicians. I had this odd connection
to the band, a level of fandom that I didn't feel with any other band. I almost felt like a part of it even though I was just a fan.
I'm sure many other people feel like me and as I age into my 50's I think it's important to let you know you made a difference in
my life. Nothing can ever take that away from you. Your music and your dedication to it made a difference. So all the trials and tribulations,
all the time on the road away from your loved ones...it made a difference. You can be very proud!!

Michael Thompson

Dream Theater has rocked my life.  From hearing "Pull Me Under" back in the early nineties...  Got Images and Words and it was my immediate favorite album.  I remember playing "Pull Me Under" in music appreciation class in college.  And my wife driving 2 hours (each way) in a blazing snowstorm to get SFAM on release day because there was no other way to get it.

Flash forward many years.  I was still a big DT fan but didn't really know or appreciate "prog" yet.  Enter 6DOIT.  Mind blown.  It forever changed the way I listen to and enjoy music.  It opened the door of realization of tons of music I hadn't ever heard about.  And well more than a decade later they are still making great records and can't wait for more.

I have tremendous respect for each individual member of the band.  What amazing artists!!!

And finally,  BRING ON METROPOLIS III!!! (j/k!!!)

I was 16 when I first heard 'Pull Me Under'....and loved it. I immediately bought the I&W cassette and subsequently had to purchase at least four or five more because I would literally listen to it over and over and over.....when I saw you guys perform 'Metroplois'  live at an intimate venue in St. Louis in 1993.....that was the hook that has never been removed.

I am 39 now and your music and the lyrics within has been a part of my life for 23 years. Through every season of my life 'you'...Dream Theater have been there.....for me....through the peaks and the valleys. It's the truth when I say 'you'.....Dream Theater have been a steady beacon of strength in my life for 23 years.

Thank you James, John P. and John M. For a multitude of lyrical masterpieces that still pierce me to the soul when I listen to them, so beautiful and inspired....they are glimpses into your soul and spirit that can only hint at how genuine you all truly are.

Jordan....your dedication to your craft is second to none and the beauty of the notes you play is only rivaled by the bright gleam your spirit leaves behind in every interview or interaction I've seen from you. I hope to one day run into you in one of the hallways of eternity so we can have a conversation.

Mike Mangini.....your talent ability is honestly remarkable! It's a wonder how your limbs just haven't fallen off but I can't think of a better musician to lead Dream a Theater into the future. And, your honest disposition and humble approach to life is an inspiration to any man to want to mimick....if you see Jordan and I speaking in that hallway please stop to say 'hi'

I'm not a musician but I don't think you need me to tell you how incredible the music you all produce is. I just want to Thank you for pursuing your dreams which in turn was a Blessing to so many countless people in this world....I'm curious as to if you guys completely understand what you've been to so many of us? Thank you again for 30 years of dedicated and inspirational music! From this one fan to you all....God Bless you and those you hold dear!

Gary Miller Jr.

MP,Derrick, Kevin, Charlie.....thanks for the memories and music as well.

The music you guys have created over the course of your career has simply changed my life. I discovered Octavarium first as a freshman in high school and was just astonished with the musicianship and artistic vision present on the album. I literally had never heard anything like it; music for me was irrevocably transformed from that point on. Then, inspired by In the Presence of Enemies in sophomore year, I got a guitar, starting studying music theory, and sought out other genres and artists which also celebrated music as a truly expressive and complex art. Through my greater appreciation of music, I also grew to value other types of art far more seriously, such as cinematography.

I got my mother into Dream Theater as well, and then together throughout my college search we would drive up and down the east coast of the United States to visit different campuses, each road trip punctuated by all of your albums but especially Black Clouds & Silver Linings. We would always timie it perfectly so that The Count of Tuscany would end as soon as we arrived for each college tour. The ambiance at the end of that song, along with the thunder in the beginning of the album, both perfectly encapsulated my feelings of my own future at the time. We even joked that A Rite of Passage was exclusively about college greek life!

In addition, Dream Theater's personal brand as not just a group of immensely talented musicians, but also genuine people who care for the world and their fans, is inspiring in and of itself. Be it Jordan playing a Japan benefit concert after the tsunami and nuclear disaster, or the guys always being so friendly night after night of meet and greets, or their playful banter with each other that they share online with their fans, following this band has been so much more than just the music for me. Throughout college, I had the opportunity to see Dream Theater several times, each show proving to be somehow even better than the last, both musically and personally. Now that I have graduated and begin to make my way in the world, your music will continue to be an inspiration and a guide for me in every possible sense.

Dream Theater, as a band, as music, as a holistic personality, will always mean so much to me and so many countless others. I thank each and every member of the band for your tireless contributions to music and proving that you can do what you love and give the world something wonderful in the process. May many more years be on the horizon!

Congratulations Dream Theater on 30 years of music! I have been a fan for 12 years, and seen you on every tour since Train of Thought came out. I can't thank you enough for the all the music (from the Majesty days, right up to where we are here today with the songs and music from Dream Theater), the concerts (including the filmed shows I was at: Score, In Constant Motion, Chaos in Motion, and Breaking the Fourth Wall), the DVDs, the bootlegs (official and unofficial!)... everything! You guys never fail to amaze, and I'm sure the new album won't change that! Hoping we get a 30th Anniversary Majesty EP as a bonus disc! (haha! no, but really...). Congrats again, James, John, John, Jordan, Mike, Mike, Derek, Kevin, Charlie, and Chris (let's not forget Chris!) I've enjoyed all 30 years of your music and look forward to many, many more years!

I remember first listening to you guys on August 2006 when I put on the Octavarium album. I never would have thought that would be such a life changing moment. Your music has been a constant ever since, being there in good times and not so good ones as well. I used to watch the videos from the making of SFAM and 6DOIT all the time and they would always put a smile on my face, I'll probably watch them again once I've finished writing this. I have had the luck to have seen you live over the years now and boy...  I think we can all agree it is really something special. Anyway, I just wanted to say thank you and lets hope for another 30+ years of music from Dream Theater.

Congratulations on your 30th Anniversary!

Being around for three decades is a respectable achievement for any band, and here you are, after all these years, still writing new music and touring the world. Even if you decided to call it quits now, you'd leave behind an impressive legacy including some of the landmark albums in the genre you helped pioneer - Images & Words and Awake have been two of my all-time favorites ever since I first heard them and they made me a prog fan six years ago.

Thanks for all the great music and the unforgettable concert in Helsinki last year. Here's to another 30 years - see you again on August 2!

Happy 30th Anniversary Dream Theater!

It is great to see the joy of playing together is still there after all these years!

Thank you for the gift that is your music, and Thank you for continuing after various band members have gone on to other things.

I would have loved to have been a fan from the beginning but alas I am only came on board about 2003, (it was a bonus to see JP and MP tour with Satch and Vai G3 2006, Melbourne, Australia, (and our other states) I believe this was a great push to finally see DT in Australia)

You are all very talented musicians and have produced some fantastic albums, that will always be my go to music.  Thank you for all the albums, DVD's etc

Thank you for helping Rich Wilson for producing the brilliant Lifting Shadows and for autographing the editions for me.  (Obviously Rich wrote it, got it published, but DT are the subject)

Thank you for continuing to work hard, writing the great tracks, releasing  awesome music, touring the world, meeting with your fans and inspiring countless people worldwide.

Thank you for touring Australia, I hope as part of your 30th Anniversary we are a stop on your schedule (pretty please) and please play Brisbane this time and two shows for Melbourne!

Once again Happy 30th Anniversary and cheers to 30 more!!!!!

Well, I've been a DT fan since 1993. I was hooked the moment I heard LatM (I had already read a review of I&W but hadn't heard it). Little did I know that 22 years later,  I would still be listening to that awesome band. Of course, there have been ups and downs, but I've found myself always coming back to them. Many a time, they have been there to soothe me in very rough times. So, yeah, thank you DT and may you have an effing HAPPY 30th Anniversary! Rock on!!!

Congratulations on 30 years, it's been a crazy ride with many ups and downs in your career. I became a fan in 2007 (around the time of Systematic Chaos) and became hooked after hearing a few tracks. Since then I've followed you with intense interest, waited impatiently for each new release, both studio albums and live stuff. Thanks to you I have also discovered many bands in the progressive genre, and after all these years (well only eight...) you still hold a place among my Top 5 bands of all time. Can't wait to see what you have in store for the 30th anniversary!

Been a huge fan for just about 10 years now. Hearing your music has changed my perspective of music forever and it has motivated me to learn how to play the guitar. Rock/Metal isn't very popular where I am so listening and learning your music has helped me to progress in learning how to play the guitar and compose music that doesn't copy the popular mainstream sound we are forced to hear each day. I hope one day I can come to a show!

thank you for 30 years of great music
I remember that day in July 1992 when I took a huge blast in my head when I heard in my favorite record store, 1 piece (Pull me under) of a group that I did not know, and still blast when I listened to the other songs of the album. It was THE Music that I dreamed, my music. And at that moment, Dream Theater has changed my life forever.
Thank you guys for your talent and your music. DT forever

Thank you for awesome discography of music, and lets hope you go on for another 20-30 years!

Dream Theater has changed my life.

It brought me back into music, it brought me back into playing the guitar, it has filled my ears every day without exception since 11 years ago, when I first heard them on a friend's car stereo.
Dream Theater is not all, but it comes pretty close.
The soundtrack of my life for sure!

Train of Thought was my first. And it was when I realised what amazing musicianship sounded like. James, John, John, Jordan and Mike changed the path of my life forever. It was they who began my music career, later my journalism career and now my first overseas travel memoirs. I have you to thank for the inspiration to writw my blues album - the second copy burnt I gave to John P in Sydneys meet and greet last year.

On behalf of the entire Dream Theater Fanclub of Australia and New Zealand - happy 30 years of proggy awesome music. And here's to another 30!

Woah! 30 years of awesome music and I've discovered this wonderful band 5 years ago.

Everything started when I was looking for a "perfect song", a song that could blew my mind, something beautiful, because I was tired of the average rock/metal sound. Then, asking on some forums about long songs, a guy told me to listen to a 42 minutes epic song. I did and since then, I've never stopped listening to you everyday. Thank you, Dream Theater, for making beautiful music. I do hope you keep like that 100 more years!!

:facepalm:think I heard you first time back in 94, but I wasn't convinced as I was following other kind of music in that specific moment. Then I changed city for 4 years and local radios didn't play DT anymore. When I came back I didn't listen too closely to music radios and that has gone on for years. anyway, as I was hearing some song here nad there, I kept repeating myself "I should get one record and listen carefully". It didn't happen until I was in a bad period of change after the death of my mother that I wanted to try...a dn begun to listen closely: I bought SFAM just to try... And was blown away from first listening. Didn't stop since then. Now a big fan, and trying to spread the disease, even though my women at home, especially my daugthers, don't seem to care much yet... All I need is to get them to listen closely, in quiet, alone, and focused. Isn't it?
For next tour, you pretty know what people WANT to listen from you... Just play those notes and we will celebrate 30th in style! See you in Pistoia concert (cannot attend Rome as I won't be here that day).

I can tell you for certain that James is aware of what is posted on these forums.  Whether he reads the board himself or has things reported to him, I do not know.  But I know he is aware.  And I know JP is aware as well.  To a lesser extent, Jordan is, but I think that stems largely from fans who are more directly in touch with his through other social media making him aware of specific posts and discussions from time to time.

Anyhow, with that now out of the way, back on topic please.

Out of curiosity, how do you get to 30 years? When do you start counting? When Dream and Day Unite came out in '88, so what's the anniversary date? First show? First show as DT? First practice? Always been really confused by how Score is the 20th anniversary show, too. Seems to me like the band often act like they're a bit older than they really are

There was a time when I would follow every single bit of Dream Theater news and rumor as a daily routine. A time when my vacations where planned around Dream Theater tour dates. A time when a Dream Theater release was held in importance above almost any other release. A time when I'd listen to Dream Theater bootlegs more than normal albums from other bands. For the most part, that time is over. I love Dream Theater, I continue to enjoy and follow them to an extent, but to a degree they have timed out to me, lost some of the glean that once made them special.

But this is not a negative post. First off, I celebrate everything Dream Theater has been to me over the past 12 years. The mini-vacations and adventures that were embarked on, the fevered discussions I've had over the years over the minuscule details of their work, and the great joy from the opportunities I've had to speak with them for only a few minutes. I was certainly over the hump with Dream Theater when I decided that my second tattoo would be their brand on my right shoulder, simply because of what a large part of my life they had been.

Perhaps more importantly, I thank Dream Theater for their influence. They helped define and push forward a genre, and their tireless work helped inspire a myriad of musicians who I continue to explore and enjoy. Would bands like Haken and Redemption sound the way they do, and have the opportunities they have if not for the path paved by Dream Theater? Although Dream Theater may not dominate my musical landscape in the way they once did, their spirit truly does carry on in the musicians they've affected.

Over 30 years you guys pushed boundaries, defined a genre, and kicked ass all around the world. Well done, and carry on.

30 years?!  Wow, it goes by so quick!  Congratulations guys!  I would basically echo a lot of what's been said, positive kudos and such!  Yeah, you guys rock!  I mean come on, you're Dream Theater!

30 years of Dream Theater...  What does that really mean for me today?  You've created music, a sound and really a genre that has become the measuring stick for everything else I listen to.  And that doesn't really say it.  I think the best way to say thanks and express my appreciation is to let you know that after the first listen, Dream Theater became the music I listened to THE MOST!.  Out of all the other choices, vibes and change ups I make to my musical selection I select your music THE MOST.

12 years a fan...  Thanks!   :tup

I remember hearing "Pull Me Under" on WPLR in New Haven when it first came out and thinking "I have to hear more of that!"   And I've been hearing more of that ever since.   In various ways, DT has formed a big part of the soundtrack of my life.   Now that my daughter is getting to be a teenager, I find music to be a great "connector" for us, and many songs are starting to form the soundtrack of HER life, including "I Walk Beside You" and "This Is The Life".

Thank you for 30 years of musical wonder.

30 years of Dream Theater music and not a bad album in the entire catalog.  Some people say 30 years isn't the most important anniversary year.  I disagree.  It is absolutely the most important.  So keep that in mind with the upcoming album release.  Anything less than the best album ever recorded in history won't do for the most important year of the band's entire career.  Save the filler songs for the 32nd anniversary.

Happy 30th Anniversary, Dream Theater.  Been a fan shortly, since 2013, but with the help of these good people in this forum and hearing the good music, I was convinced that this is going to be a band that's going to be worth listening to and enjoying.  Heard the self-titled album around the times I joined and it pretty much blew me away in terms of not just the musicianship, but also the lyrics in songs like Illumination Theory and the Bigger Picture and that sealed the deal for me to go back and listen to previous albums that made the band great.

All I can say is keep it up on this next album and I hope the experience of you guys crafting it is just as enjoyable as making the last 12 albums and just as enjoyable to listen to.

Happy 30th anniversary!

If you play ''A Change of Seasons'' this year, could you make that mad riff at 18 minutes faster, like in the original (at least in Slovenia)? It's the part that brings the most energy and completes the whole song, and it just sounded disappointing to me when you played it slower, and in half-time live.

And yes, please come to Serbia in the future, it's expensive for your Serbian and Croatian fans to go to Slovenia every time. Cheers!

Thank you for being the band that gave me such feelings over all these years, and being the main reason for my musical discoveries in terms of styles and bands.

What has thirty years of Dream Theater meant to me? Class, professionalism, mind-bending jams, graciousness, hard work, craft, brotherhood, escape, freedom, LONG ISLAND NY, Den Bosch, Pompano Beach Florida, Miami Beach, Orlando, Ybor City, London, Sheffield England, trips, travel, three worn out copies of "Scenes From a Memory," inspiration, two caught drumsticks tossed out by Mike Portnoy in Sheffield and London 2000, a signed animation cell from the video Forsaken I won in a contest, free meet and greet with Mike Portnoy at Sam Ash, the sound track for many vacations in Europe, wicked instrumentals, A Change of Seasons, and above all, LOVE. Happy 30th Anniversary Dream Theater!!!

Been a fan for 22 years now. Seen the band seven times (four of which I traveled  - twice to Chicago, once to Orlando and once to KC; other three times here in St. Louis).  DT is probably my 3rd favorite all-time band.  So yeah, love the band, despite the fact that I used to be overly critical of the band on these here forums.  Thanks for all of the great tunes and shows! :metal :metal

Will try to keep this as short as possible ;)  I have been enjoying your amazing music for over 15 years now! When my husband I started dating he introduced me to DT, I fell in love with SFAM and I've never looked back. I listened to everything and anything that was Dream Theater :)

My husband and I have been to 20 live concerts over the years. I walked down the isle to the String quartet tribute to DT :) . It was the first music my sons heard inside my womb, and the first music they heard after they were born.  I've found lots of other music because of DT, and met so many lovely people who were fans just like myself. I've met you all a few times after various gigs which was amazing, thank you all for being so kind and humble in person. I was also there at Radio City Music Hall, and loved every minute.

You've been part of so many moments, and helped create so many memories over the years. Thank you for your amazing music, and for being a major part of the soundtrack of my life. Please keep doing what you are all amazingly talented at because I'm looking forward to many more years of amazing music by DT!

Congrats and Thank you again,
 :heart Steph

Happy 30th Anniversary DT!  I first heard of DT when my bro played IAW and he had me hear Metropolis and Pull Me Under for the first time.  I was amazed!  I was able to make the second leg of the IAW tour only to realize you guys had a first album floating around.  Was not able to get WDADU till I visited a store called CD Warehouse, which sold imports.  I bought WDADU in CD format (my first CD purchase and I had no CD player at the time).  I was then happy to hear that you were coming out with the Awake album, but sad to hear Kevin Moore had left.   You had a signing at CD Warehouse, where I was able to meet most of you in person.  What a great moment and so nervous! You signed all my stuff and all your personalities were the same as today!  I've followed you guys during the up down, up, down, up again roller coaster.    As you see from my Avatar of ticket purchases, I have stayed with you guys for most of my life.  Thanks for the great emotions, and energy you guys provide to me everyday!
Thank you John P., John M., Mike P, Kevin, James, Charlie, Derek, Jordan, & Mike M.!   Continue the Majesty of it all individually and together!

Dream Theater. One of the best bands I've ever heard. Thank you for the influence, Portnoy's drumming and Petrucci's a,azing guitar skills have helped me to strengthen my style on both instruments. The lyrics to songs like Beneath the Surface help me realise I'm not alone in what I feel. All that I can say is that Dream Theater is one of the greatest bands, and their thirty year longevity is well deserved. To Dream Thetaer, I thank you for all that you mean to me, and here's to another thirty years!

Basically, you (DT) have changed my life by greatly changing my taste in music and opening my eyes for different kinds of music than just metal (yeah, I was 16 at the time...). Moreover, you've come up with a number of fantastic albums, and many of those are still in my top 20 albums of all time. I've been to a few shows and they were fantastic as well; you're one of my favourite bands! Happy 30th anniversary to everyone in the band and every ex-member; I hope the band goes on for some more years!

Happy anniversary guys! Hard to believe it's been 30 years. I first got into your music around 1997/1998 when I purchased Awake, Change of Seasons and Falling Into Infinity. I now have most of your CDs and videos. I mostly listen to Christian rock, hard rock and metal, but you guys and Impellitteri as the 2 main groups that I listen to that don't fall in that category as I am a huge fan of progressive/technical/shred guitar oriented music. I wish you guys all the best.

Dear Dream Theater,

I’d like to say THANK YOU for all that you’ve done to me without knowing it. The past year was very hard for me; I’d a lot of mental pressure at work what influenced my whole life negatively. Every evening, I sat on my couch being unable to do anything, the thought of going to work again the next day brought me to tears. Every morning, I didn’t want to get up although I couldn’t sleep anyway.

One day, I had to drive with my boss’s car and I listened to the music that appeared. The first song, the first chords, the first lines – everything of this music totally fascinated me. That was the first moment I got in touch with DT (“This Is The Life”). The following weeks, I listened to every single album and every single song. "Beneath the Surface" was the first song that brought me to tears because it was so true to me. My boss later named me “the world’s biggest DT fan” because he hadn’t seen anyone before who was so enthusiastic concerning that music.

These weeks were some of the most important ones of my life. I got SO much power, self-confidence and hope that I can’t describe it with words. It was the first time in a long time that I felt understood in my feelings and thoughts. With that new gotten power, I was able to fight for what I really wanted – and succeeded. Now, I’m so happy at work, I like to get up every morning, I enjoy my free time with my friends and my husband and can cherish my life.

Thanks to you, DT, I was able to gather and concentrate the little rests of my power and courage to face life. And I can say without exaggeration: It was high time. There was no much power left to get up every morning, to face the day, to resist the thoughts of ending life. My husband was the only one who gave me enough courage and power to go on. And then I get in touch with a music from which I never thought that it would help me that much.

So:
1. Thanks to my husband for being the love of my life and for giving me so much love although I was in a bad temper every day!
2. Thanks to my boss for showing me the world’s best music!
3. Thanks to you, DT, for making that great music for such a long time. I hope with all my heart that you will continue at least 30 years! Without you, I’m sure I wouldn’t be here writing and being so glad to live.

Can’t wait to listen to the new album and to see you live in Germany! :)

Happy 30th DT! As someone who will be 30 years old myself next month, I find it incredible that this band has been around for the same length of time as I've been alive! And that it still continues to put out incredible music so regularly. Many bands slow down after so long and/or live off past glories, but Dream Theater are still creating amazing new music and putting on wonderful live shows. The dedication to your craft and to your fans is phenomenal.

I still feel lucky that a friend introduced me to your music almost 10 years ago now. Never before had I been so captivated by one band and I doubt another will ever have the same effect on me. Not only have I had all the enjoyment from DT's own songs, but it also led me to explore new types of music and other exciting bands. None compare to Dream Theater though! Thank you and keep on rawking guys!  :metal :coolio

I'm one of those people. Keep up the good work, guys. People may hate you or love you, but nobody can deny there's no other band like Dream Theater. 30 years straight and you still find ways to amaze us. Keep on kicking them asses!  :metal

I was introduced to Dream Theater when Systematic Chaos came out, and have been a die-hard fan since.  Your music has helped me to focus, relax, etc.  It has also helped a particular friend of mine.  He has Aspergers Syndrome, and was struggling to find clarity and motivation.  I showed him Solitary Shell.  Although he isn't a huge fan like me, the lyrics really resonated with him and helped him to view his condition in a different light "But in every other way he was fine".  He played the song for his mom, and she cried.  Thank you for being such an amazing band, and such humble people.  This is why I will attend every concert I can, and will continue to support you on your ventures!

About seven years ago I was really big into Rock Band. I was pretty good at it, so one day I decided to challenge myself by playing the hardest songs in the game. I beat them all no problem until I got to a song called Panic Attack. I tried on all instruments and couldn't do it. Unlike the other hard songs in the game, this one was melodic. Every note was played with a purpose and felt like it was exactly where it should be. I immediately decided that I needed to hear more from this band. I went and bought the album on which Panic Attack appeared and loved it although I never had time to listen to the final track. One day I finally had the chance to listen to it and what followed was a life changing 24 minutes. Octavarium completely changed the way I heard and thought of music while making me a true fan of the band. I now was on a quest to hear all of this incredible band's music. Systematic Chaos was next, followed by Images and Words and A Dramatic Turn of Events. I loved every minute of it, but I had no idea just how far my love of this band would go. The next album after those would change me from a fan to a fanatic. Scenes From a Memory made me realize that this was more than just a great band. This is the greatest band on the face of the planet. They write music that many couldn't even dream of composing. The effortlessly tell stories not just through lyrics, but through the instrumentation as well. This was music on another plain of existence. It inspired me to try and become even half the musician that these guys are. It made me realize that music is more than just an art. Music is a way of life. Thank you Dream Theater for inspiring me everyday. Happy 30th anniversary.

The first time I heard you guys, I was 15 years old. My Dad and I were in the truck when he popped Images and Words into the CD player. I remember feeling like I found something I had been missing all my life. I asked for a copy and the addiction set in instantly. I'm about to turn 27 and I still listen to you guys on a daily basis. After all these years, I still get overtaken with chills from various songs. When that Octavarium intro is playing, I close my eyes and for that moment, all of life's problems are gone. I like to joke that Dream Theater has ruined all music for me as i'm unable to find musicianship that even comes close. Because of this, I cycle between all DT albums, Liquid Tension Experiment, and the solo albums from John, James and Jordan. Happy 30th guys, thank you for being true to music and not chasing fame or fortune. Also, PLEASE come back to Florida soon. I see you guys every time you come to Ruth Eckerd Hall and was crushed when you skipped us during the last US tour.

Message for James: You're KILLIN' it dude. Huge props to your vocal coach and your commitment because your voice just gets better and better with each album. That note you held at the end of Enemy Inside at the Boston Opera House =  :omg:

Message for JP: I love you, sir. Your humility as one of the world's greatest guitar players really inspires me on a human level as well as musical. Meeting you one day is high on my bucket list- hopefully your beard wont swallow me whole.  :lol

I just made an account here so I could show off my unhealthy obsession with DT.
DT has literally changed my life.Especially the 12 Step Suite, which is important to me and the 130 million other alcoholics. And when I am  having a bad day, I can put in A Change of Seasons or Octavarium, and everything will be alright.
Dream Theater is why I play music (and John Myung is the reason I obsessively practice bass very day).  I also played Glasgow Kiss for a friend, and to this day he lets me know when he's mastered a Petrucci solo. Oh, and I bought the John Myung Yamaha signature bass in less than 24 hours of watching Budokan.

Ten years ago a friend put Live at Budokan in the dvd player  and I instantly knew that I had found my passion...

Now I just have to kidnap them and bring them to Alabama for a show!

I first met with Dream Theater when I was 16. My bandmate handed a cassette with the song "Wait for Sleep":  in two days I have to learn it on piano because he'd like to sing it.  :o I think that was the first sleepless 2 days in my life with that piano skills I had back then.  :D
I became a musician and among a lot of bands, once I was asked to transcribe the vocals of Pull Me Under for a tribute band. They showed me a lot of songs of Images And Words as the "Best Music on Earth, maaaan!", but I really wasn't interested - I was learning jazz-piano that time. But that "Wait for Sleep" from many years before haunted me every time I was on a soundcheck.

It was autumn in 1999 when a gamer magazine (weird, huh?) wrote a short article about titled "The Best Prog Album Ever", I think you know what it was: Scenes From a Memory. I bought it right away and listened over and over for 10 years I think.  :D I realized what those friends were talking about, I had to grow up for this.
I bought all the albums since then - it's a sign of respect, because Hungary is not that CD-buyer country -, made transcriptions, tried to memorize and understand all the details what you really get only after the 100th walkthrough.  ;)

I think DT is among the highest level music in rock, jazz, classical and pop altogether. That's why in the school I tought rhythm, scales, harmonies, tempo keeping and thinking out of the box (!) through DT's best songs for my students.

Your music influenced my songwriting and arranging ways too, with my pop-acappella band we won international awards with my arrangements of Hungarian folk songs and other pieces - which ones I wrote keeping DT in my mind: "Think out of the box, try not to keep it simple and not to spare the work! And give something for the musicians too!  ;D"

Through my example you can see how you could change a lot of people's lives all over the world, how you may have changed thinking in music, other styles and brands of music - like that butterfly in chaos theory. Now I'm close to 40, and for me the butterfly was the "Wait for Sleep" which I still play usually on soundchecks.

Of course I could go on writing pages about my first live DT concert with an unerasable smile on my face, or my favourite song (Beneath the Surface) novadays, but it would be too long, so...
I wish you all a Happy Birthday and a next 30 years!!!  :tup

Best 30yrs in music. Here's my DT discovery story. IN 1989 I had just graduated High school and was getting set to go to music school in California. I walked in to a local record store in Butte Montana and asked the guy I want something new and fresh. He asked me what I liked and I gave out a long list from Yes to Kansas, Queensryche to Fates Warning and the way up to Metallica and Megadeth and a ton more in between. He reached under the counter and slid When Dream and Day Unite to me, "This is every band you just said rolled in to one" he said. I remember getting in to my car putting the cassette in and then going in to a full music trance as I listened. I sat in the music store parking lot and listened to the whole album, thinking these guys are beyond talented and are going to be huge someday. I wore out that cassette in a few months and ended up having to order another one because I couldn't find it in any other music store. I've played guitar most of my life, starting when I was 5. When I first heard Eddie Van Halen in 1979 it changed the way I approached the guitar and music in general. When I first heard DT I got the same feeling. DT is pure talent not just for their music abilities but also in the way they write songs. I've gladly bought every one of their albums knowing I'm going to hear something new and great. Thanks guys.......

The first time I heard about Dream Theater was in 1998 when a friend showed me about 10 seconds of a change of seasons,  I asked him for the name of the band and completely forgot it.
Back in 2001, I moved to the US, not knowing anyone,  and one of my Napster sessions looking for music from Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, and others I kept getting a people downloading a change of seasons,  so I did.  After doing that and thanks to Napster, I bought all the albums 5 DVD and seen you guys live 4 times.
So 30 years of music sounds like a lot but I wish I had met your music before, until today you guys keep my creativity and productivity flowing.
I consider that Dream Theater is embedded in my live forever.
A funny/sad story is that when Mike left the band I was also heartbroken because my girlfriend at that time left me,  but when I read the news about Mike,  I felt so sad that I stopped caring about my now ex girlfriend,  I guess a huge thanks for one of the most difficult times for the band.
I admire you from the music side and the business side of things.
Your fan
Blas

Dream Theater is a band that has truly touched my Life.  Listening to the band through out the years can be best described as an Experience and a Journey.  I have always felt a sense of experiencing something that was well beyond the typical Music experience.  It has always felt like much much more, akin to viewing a Picasso, or listening to a great classical Composer.  This is not simply Music and songs, but a Journey that has lasted nearly 3 decades, if speaking for myself.  Their expertise and the development of their Craft is beyond what is typical in this genre or any other.  I am not sure they will ever quite get their Just Do, but they always will, as it pertains to my opinion.

The Band has enhanced my Life.  The enjoyment that i have received has stretches from my teen years right into my current 40's.  They have outlasted Girl Friends, a WIFE, and even more Girl Friends!  There are songs and Albums i reach for when i am feeling a certain way, or experiencing tough times.  There is always a DT piece of music that i can relate to my current life and times.  I consider that priceless.  I have seen them more times then i care to admit too, and will continue to do so for as long as my finances and The Band hold out!

So, I just want to thank them from the absolute bottom of my heart for allowing myself and others to enjoy their Work.  I offer sincere thanks and hope that they continue to exist for another 30 years!

Congratulations to all for reaching this milestone.  I have no idea where you find the enthusiasm let alone the energy necessary to tour and record at the pace that you do, but wherever you find it, it's clearly working for you, and we thank you for the art that lifts our spirits and feeds our souls.  I've lived through some dark days over the last 30 years, and it has often been the music of Dream Theater that has strengthened me, and seen me through to better times.  Thank you, for being who you are, and sharing your gifts with us.

Ufffff ... Let's go back in time twenty years ago.

At that time I was just starting to listen heavy music. And of course, it started with the classics (Iron Maiden, Metallica, Ozzy, etc) and continued with heavier stuffs, always searching the perfect mix between heaviness and technique. My best friend showed me and lent me a tape from Killers (one of Paul DiAnno's bands) because it had a version of "Remember Tomorrow". All of this, in side A of the tape. On the side B ... WDADU ... I found the voice of Charlie kinda weird, funny ... but the music was stunning ... And with Ytse Jam I was absolutely freaked out!!!

With this "incredible" band in mind another friend lend me I&W ... and when I took the disc from the player after having heared, I discovered my  favourite band ...

Then, I started to collect the albums, DVDs, bootlegs ... And you followed me in many times of my life ... Also, I had the enormous honour of watching you three times in Chile (2005 - The First One [your biggest audience!!], 2008 and 2010 [2 weeks after the tragic earthquake]) ..

Thanks guys!!

Happy 30th (first) Anniversary!!!

We'll be here celebrating with you

Greetigs and hugs from Chile

Hi, i am Alain from Venezuela, to say Dream Theater is my favorite band it isn´t enough, i found them when i was 15 now im 28, i read an article about a crazy drummer called Mike Portnoy and saw a picture of his "siamese monster 1.0" and i was very impressed and wondering how he was able to play all that drums so i search their music on internet and the first song was "The Glass Prison"... Man that was sick!!  like 14 minutes!! and there was passages of the song that was complicated for me at that time, but i listened over and over and said to me "i have to play that!", so i started to research on their discografy and at that time Train of Through was new, over these year Dream Theater has been in my life in good times and bad times, and has made me not only a better musician but a better person. i had the opportunity to see them in march 24th 2010 and it was the last show of a DT tour with Mike Portnoy as a drummer, noboby knew that at that time, but it was the best experience of my life. when mike left the band i was confused but then became the auditions wich made me rediscover awesome drummers and their projects besides the whole DT audition thing. Mike Mangini is not only a hell of a drummer but an excellent person who raised the band to a new level. John Petrucci is a tecnical guitar player obviously but he have a soul and a feeling in all that millions of notes, Jordan really is a wizzard litterally!, John Myung is an inspiration as a person because on stage he rocks as nobody but at the same time is very humble and simple, James beside his pirate alter ego it is a gentleman, he has trough some hard times but no matter what people could say he is the front man of Dream Theater, and MP is my musical supero hero of all times any band that he name i google it and its awesome, any project that he is in i listen to it and it open a whole universe for me while being in DT and now in this new era. i mean how can i express my gratitud for this guys? even my daugthers enjoy their music and the cartoons from. i can´t wait to catch them again on tour and rock with you for 3 hours and continue this ride.

Thank you guys for touching my life with your music and your example.
Congrats
Alain

There's a lot of things I have to say about this that I'm not sure where to start. I'm just a single fan from Mexico, but for me, this band is quite special. I was born in '85, and I'm going to get 30, the same years you're having of career, and I feel DT's music so close, that I feel that is part of my life. I first heard about you around '97, when I saw the Awake album at the home of some random guy, and I felt curious enough to start investigating about you, but it wasn't until '99 when I really started to get into this wonderful music, and there was a name of a song that caught my atention "Metropolis Pt1" and I strted to listen to it, and it was quite different of what I heard before, more close to the music I used to listen in my early days, jazz music. Then I started to digging more and more, and it was a challenge to me to really understand and get your music. It was until 2006 when I first attended to my first DT show, at the National Auditorium in Mexico City with the 20th Anniversary tour, I was at the very back row, and I couldn't avoid to start crying with several songs, but it was when you started to play Octavarium, and it was a magic moment, I was totally shocked. By this time I was so familiar to DT's music, and is the situation that I'm having the same age as the band's career, that I'm feeling so close to you, to this band, that sometimes I feel that you're like some kind of relatives. For me DT's music provides me more than a good moment of great music, for me is more than just entretainment; Dream Theater's music has a lot of meaning to me, that sometimes it gives sense, and provide some direction to my personal life, sometimes the lyrics, the passages, the riffs provide me some understanding for several situations of my life, and encourages me to have a different view about life in general, to see the bigger picture instead of being at some comfort zone looking the same image, it challenges me to achieve things that I was not sure to do. I remember when you came to Mexico City in 2008, I was through a tough economical moment, and somehow I made it to the concert, and when you played Surrounded I felt and great internal peace, and I felt so confident that at a certain moment that situation would've been reverted, and it was. Last year, when it was the "Along for the Ride Tour", I took the challenge and the adventure to go by my own for the first time to New York City. It was the right time to do it, and the main reason was to meet you for the first time, and even when it was a very fast moment for the M&G, it was a very special moment, and a highlight in my life to finally meet you guys before the show in New York City, at the Hammerstein Ballroom in Manhattan Center.

And now, I'm having the opportunity to travel overseas to attend to the Wacken Open Air, and I'll be there attending to your first ever performance there, and I'll be there singing along, and I hope this would be a great moment. Summarizing, you are a great band, the music is amazing, there's a lot of wisdom in your lyrics, in the instrumental passages. You're a big influence for my, I like to play the guitar and I'm trying to do my best in order to play it better each day.

Congratulations, and receive a warm hug from my side, and thank for your beautiful music.

It was winter 1992-1993 and legendary Klaus Flaming, the host of the Finnish radio show Metalliliitto (Metal Union), was introducing a song and for some reason I pressed the record button on my tape deck although I didn't hear the name of the band. I was 15 years old and I fell in love instantly, but it took me a long time before I could find out what the name of the band or even the name of this awesome song was, because Soundhound or Internet forums didn't exist yet and none of my friends knew what it was!

About one year later I heard the same song playing at the local youth center and rushed into the small room where the stereo was. There was a guy, who actually was living in the house next door to me, and he told me that the name of the band was Dream Theater and that song was Metropolis Pt 1: The Miracle and the Sleeper.

As soon as I got the money, I bought the album and that album really had a big role in shaping my musical taste into more progressive direction. Not so long after that I started listening to Rush, then Yes, Genesis and other classic progressive rock bands. Dream Theater has of course been one of my favourites during all these years, although Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence and Train of Thought were really not my cup of tea back then, but thanks to Octavarium and the awesome title song, I found you again.

Thank you so much for making great music!

One of my best friends introduced me to Dream Theater in 1996. For my birthday he bought me Images and Words, Awake and A Change of Seasons... He said, "just listen and you'll be hooked". Well initially it took a few months to really grasp the complexity of Dream Theater's music (Van Halen was always in the CD rotation at that time, and their lead singer rotation was somewhat of a blessing in disguise; truth be told) . My ears & brain weren't well adjusted to the lengthy songs or the constant time signature changes. What my memory does serve me is when I first listened to A Change of Seasons in its entirety. WOW!!! That was the hook, line and sinker for me. So in 1997, when Falling Into Infinity came out, I had to see Dream Theater live. Being from Connecticut, Toads Place was my first of many (totaling 15 so far) live shows. From Toads Place, to The Webster Theater, the Meadows (w/ Deep Purple & ELP), Oakdale Theater, Jones Beach, BB Kings, Madison Square Garden (w/ Maiden), Bank of America Pavilion (Boston), and last year at the Hammerstein Ballroom (NYC), every live show has been EPIC in their own way.
Title: Story of how I was introduced to my favorite band of all time Dream Theater!
Post by: KrisVonInks on May 21, 2015, 06:11:38 AM
I was 13 when I was first introduced to hard rock. I still didn't like metal in general. Back then I used to believe that metal was all like trash and death metal, which are too intense for me to handle with my tiny baby ears. I've seen Dream Theater several times on shelves, but I just ignore them because I thought I wouldn't like them.

I remember sooo vividly how I first tried listening to their music. Oh, happy day~ :heart That day in 2007 (by that time I was 17), my mom brought me and one of my closest friend downtown to an edutainment library that had just opened for business. Though, it's titled 'edutainment' it still sound pretty boring, still I went, no matter how unwillingly. I, who back then wasn't interested in books, almost immediately discovered the music library once I stepped inside. In there were posters and a whole lot of CDs of different musical genres. One side of the wall was wholly glass, overlooking the downtown cityscape. And in front of the glass were small tables with stools. I walked over to see that, embedded in the tabletops were Ipods, one for each table, with headphone hanging ready on the side. Intrigued, I sat on the middle one, put on the headphone and started browsing. I remember trying to listen to some other music, but they weren't to my taste. So, I decided to browse by genre. I selected metal and the very first song I saw was Dream Theater's 'In The Presence of Enemies, Part 1'. I remember that I was like "Sure. Why the hell not?". So, then I hit play. The music started playing. And then my mind was COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY BLOWN APART PIECE BY PIECE. I was totally speechless! Full 9 minutes of the whole song I sat there absorbing the magnificence and basking in the glory that was and is Dream Theater. The tone, the range, the depth, everything was perfect. Later that day we went to a mall and I rushed to the nearest music store to find 'Systematic Chaos'. I remember that they didn't have that album, but what they did have was 'Octavarium'. I grabbed it without hesitation. I love, love, love that album! And when I finally got my hands on Systematic Chaos, my hype train could not be stopped! I searched the heavens, roamed the high seas, tracked down and bought every single Dream Theater studio albums there was. 8 years have passed, I've just recently fulfilled my quest and completed my Dream Theater collection with 'Falling into Infinity'. Now I have from 'Images and Words' to their self-titled album which I love to death, by the way!  I also have their best-of album and 'A Change of Seasons' EP. I got to go watch them live in 2012 as well! My first time ever in a concert. It was ROCKIN'!! :metal I'm also considering having a Dream Theater tattoo on me forever, that's how passionate I am about this band!

As a huge fan and an artist, I'd like to thank you for your music that had and always will inspire me. Happy 30th anniversary, DT! I'm super excited for this year's new release!

First of all, huge congratulations on 30 years of great music and still going strong!
I just wanted to let you know how important and life-changing your music has been for me.
I grew up in a very fundamentalist religious family and community. Since the church also had its own religious school I had little influence from the outside world.
I was introduced to your music in my early teens by my older brother who had left the faith. It absolutely turned my world around, it was like nothing I had ever heard before. I loved it from the first moment.
I had never felt that I fitted very well in the restricting mold the church had given me, their rules didn't allow me to be me. Your music gave me strength I didn't know I had and I slowly began to change into the person I really wanted to be. I listened every chance I got, read the lyrics over and over and would fall asleep with your music in my ears. I was told repeatedly not to listen to your music, that you were agents of Satan and would lead me to hell. I had to endure hours of counseling sessions, both at home and with the church leaders, where they tried to turn me back to the "right path" and did their best to cast out the demon that apparently was the reason that I liked your music so much.
The day after I got my first job and could provide for myself I had the Majesty-symbol tattooed on my arm, my mark of freedom, something that made my mother cry for hours and my father wanting to throw me out of the house. (fortunately my mother stopped him but I still moved out shortly after) Today, 20 years after I listened to you for the first time, your music still reminds me to live my life for me and not to please others. Without your music to draw strength and inspiration from I'm not sure I would have been able to break free from a life that wasn't for me. I don't know if I can explain in words how much the songs you have created have ment to me. To me Dream Theater was a gateway to a whole new world, filled with great music, where I could be me and live free.

Sincerely thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Emma Lidé

I first discovered you guys in 1993 when I heard a couple tracks from Images and Words. I've been a fan ever since. Thanks for always making such creative and inspiring music. To me, your music has always been so full of emotions. Again, thanks for the music! Keep rockin'.

Reading through all these posts is awesome as is seeing how many people joined just to post in this thread.

Equally cool is how many people have been impacted by DT's latter day output. So many of us who have been long time fans tend to think
nothing can compare to the run from I&W thru SFaM but just as many people have had life changing experiences from 8V onward
and that is amazing!

I got a chance to tell Mr. Rudess this through one of his livestream comment feeds, but I'd still love for the rest of the guys to get a chance to see it:
When I was about 8 I went to see my brother at his college. That day he stopped by Best Buy to get a copy of Six Degrees, and I heard you guys' music for the first time. After he brought it home I would sit and listen to disc one over and over while just staring at the computer screen watching the progress bar, and I decided I had to learn how to make music like that. Nearly 13 years later, I'm one semester away from graduating top of my class with a music degree because of you guys. You guys are still my favorite band by far. I've never gotten to see you live yet, but as soon as I graduate my brother and I plan to drive however far it takes to get meet and greet tickets to your next tour.
Thanks for the awesome music and inspiration! Congrats on 30 years!

Happy anniversary to my all time favorite band. Words can not describe how much I love your music. I feel sorry for all the other bands I've been almost ignoring due to how much I've been listening to you. I wish you nothing but the best and hope you come back stronger than ever with the album you started recording this year. It will be hard, considering how high of a standard you have set with your previous albums. One of my biggest dreams is seeing you perform live, but unfortunately you never graced the country of Serbia with your presence. I've never felt so moved, touched and blown away by any music. It's hard to believe you've been around for 30 years, considering how fresh you still sound, which I am sure you will prove yet once again on your next album. If you ever perform in Serbia, you wont just be making this 15-year-old extremely happy, but you will also be pleasing your many serbian fans who have been starving for seeing you live for far too long. Again, happy 30th anniversary, I hope you have many great years to come and I can't wait to hear your next album or to one day see you perform.

Two years ago my drummer and I were talking about Liquid Tension Experiment based on a Youtube I had seen and I commented on the keyboard player and how he was in Dream Theater. He said that was his favorite band and asked me if I had heard any Dream Theater. I replied that while I had heard of the band I had not heard any material by them. He said he had a CD in his truck he would let me borrow and gave it to me after rehearsal. When I got home I opened the CD case and there was only disc 2 of Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence. He had left disc 1 in his truck player. Ok, so I pop in disc 2 and after 30 seconds I was hooked. Wait, let me put it another way: I am 60 years old there have been only a few times during my lifetime that I actually changed listening habits (i.e. changing what I listen to). It was at this moment that I had been taken in a whole new direction. After listening to the SDOIT suite I sat back and said to myself,"I am exhausted". The music was so intense and complex yet so listenable that I now have a favorite band and since that moment I have bought every DT album and DVD available and collected close to 170 live shows. I can't get enough. I look forward to every album, every DVD and every video clip that shows up on Youtube. Thanks so much for giving me a whole new musical avenue to travel down at this late stage in my life. Maybe one day you will come close enough to my neck of the woods that I can experience a DT concert in person. Maybe I'll see YOU on the road!

I remember the exacly day that I've first hearded about Dream Theater... I was a 12 years old kid, who have listened A LOOOT of Rush. Then one day I just came to my dad's room, and he call me to check this guy out... This dude can sing power high notes in the most awesome way! I entered, and he was watching Scenes From New York... It was Home! I loved! Just like that! No further, no bullshit... Just love it, at the exacly moment I saw you guys and listened to your fantastic music!
The way Mike played his drums... The way John Petrucci was doing his guitar riffs and solos (I was learning guitar at the time) just blew me away! And wtf is Jordan Rudess??? That guy REALLY knows how to play a keyboard, man! Just the best! And then I saw... This oriental guy, super obscure and fuckin crazy in the bass! Man... It was JUST the begining of a true love story!
I've got addicted for this band! I've searched all the history, back in Majesty days... Band members names, albuns, discography, videography, bootlegs... Everything... I've spent a looong long time just listening Dream Theater! Nothing else!
The years pass bye, and I've started to follow the band (record terms) and a couple of years later I got my first show! It was AWESOME! I couldn't believe that I was seeing you guys IN PERSON! Unfortunatley I live in Brazil... A country that I can't see A LOT of shows, like some other countrys... But I have gone in 2 shows here, and every tour here, I'll be there!

I just wanna really thank you guys for 30 years of wonderful music, inspiration and happiness!
I wanna say congratulations to ALL of you! All of the member that have founded Dream Theater, Majesty, and specially the member who still are giving their best to us, fans!

Thank you all guys! I really love you <3

In this 30th anniversary i want to share part of my life with the band and how they changed it's course. Everything started with A Change of Seasons. It was an invitation to listen to their music after playing covers in a way they sounded better than  the original recordings. After that it was a constant discovery of masterpieces in each album I was able to find. What was so curious was that each album fitted in every episode of my life. Remorse and self forgiveness with the Awake and Metropolis II albums where very personal to the point both saved me from auto destruction; Images and Words gave me hope to dream again; Train of Thought was the eternal fight against memories and loneliness; Octavarium to face the monotony of a life with no change. Crying an entire morning when Mike left the band and again when I heard for first time "On the backs of Angels", first one because the fear of the band's end and second one of joy of seen them stronger than ever!

Finally my eternal debt with DT is that thanks to them i met my wife. Long story short... Found her 10 years ago in Hi5 looking for people who liked the band. She was the first one I found and finally 5 years ago I went to Venezuela and brought her to US as my dear soulmate.

Thank you band of my life! thank you for making the soundtrack of my life and help me break this walls every time I wasn't able to do it alone! I hope you pass by soon close to Miami, Fl so I can see you at VIP and personally express my gratitude to each one of you!
Long live DT!

I want to congratulate you for the years of experience.
get to hear the band , through friends , the first album was heard scenes from a memory , back in 2001 .
Since that day , I discovered and discover in dream theater , so many things in life .
The lyrics and music transported me to many places, and historical moments .
JP generates so much mysticism, which has led me to seek answers to many existential questions , which I appreciate . because in that way I met people and knowledge, which otherwise would never come .
Thanks for making my day , a lighthouse in the sea.
Congratulations, and something I am sure is that my kids will tell the story and listen to this great band . My band , our band. Dream Theater is the legacy of all mankind .
Thanks guys . Good Life !!

HI, I’m Haceeb and here’s my story.
I used to listen to Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Green Day, Savage Garden, local bands and music plus radio back in 2001. I was tired of this music. So I started searching for new music. I went to mp3 site and searched with different keywords. Keywords were like ‘Dream’,  ‘Heaven’ , ‘Afterlife’, ‘Suicide’, ‘Silence’, ‘Soul’, ‘Death’, ‘Hell’, ‘Space’, ‘Spirit’. So that site showed me a list of music and I downloaded few tracks with better names.  Those tracks were: Fragile Dreams by Anathema, Space-Dye Vest, Fear Factory and Dark Tranquillity tracks. I really liked Dream Theater and Anathema after giving them a listen. In me my mind I thought that now I have found a path so I should search for more tracks by Anathema/DT. Then I found only few tracks by them: Angelica, Eternity, Are you there, Pull me under. During those days, I was going to bad time and felt suicidal most of the time. People say how a band, music or a film can save one’s life. But it really saved my life during that hardest time full of family affairs/broken hearts and then hiding in a closed room for weeks ‘cause of panic attacks. That was the time when DT’s music helped. I started listening to them in a closed room and I would sing along with Pirate. Though I felt suicidal/heartbroken all the time but I told myself: If I kill myself  then how I’m gonna listen to DT? How I’m gonna play video games? How I’m gonna watch films? How I’m gonna visit all the places I have ever dreamt of? And bingo, eventually combination of all this stuff saved me.
After that I bought their albums one by one. Thanks to them, they introduced me to other amazing progressive bands like Yes, King Crimson, Pink Floyd, ELP, Genesis, Rush, Jethro Tull, Marillion, Queensrÿche, Opeth, Porcupine Tree, Tool, Pain of Salvation. I’m so addictive to this stuff that now I can’t think of living without progressive music.
Thank you, Dream Theater for saving me in those darkest days and congratulations to you on your 30 fucking amazing years. You guys totally changed my life and music so keep making music for us.
Once again, thank you for making my days and life, Dream Theater! *whoa*

I'm a totally Rock fan, there's no doubt about it. When I listened Dream Theater for the first time, I knew the band will be in the bucket rocker proggy list for all my life. It was 10 years ago when Dream Theater came out to my life. I remember Octavarium release and obviously all those amazing songs I discovered. A friend of mine introduced me in DT's world, and I'm very thankful with her because Dream Theater is a diverse proggy band. Since then, during these ten years, I've been discovered each one of the albums and lovin' them. I remember that moment when for the first time I listened to Octavarium song and that amazing intro and all the seque sections: "wow! these guys are amazing!. It sounds like Pink Floyd, Queen, Cream, Iron Maiden, Deep Purple, Beatles, I mean all the bands I've been listening for during all my entire life!". Since then, Dream Theater was (and still it is) my favorite band. I bought every single album, DVDs and fan collectors things.
People ask me about my favorite DT album and for me its kinda hard question 'cause I've been ejoying each one of them, its hard to choose just one, when I have favorite songs like Pull me under, Learning to live, surrounded, metropolis pt. 1, 6:00, lifting shadows off a dream, Scarred, lie, A Change of Seasons, New Millennium, Anna Lee, Let me Breathe, Hollow Years, Trial of Tears, Through her Eyes, the Dance of Eternity, Finally Free, The Glass Prison, Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence, the Great Debate, Honor Thy Father, The root of all Evil, I Walk beside you, Panic Attack, Sacrificed Sons, Octavarium, Constant Motion, Forsaken, Repentance, The Ministry of Lost Souls, A Nightmare to Remember, Wither, The Best of Times, The Count of Tuscany, On The Backs of Angels, Breaking all illusions, Beneath the surface, Surrender to Reason, Behind the Veil, Illumination Theory, etc. I don't choose one album, I LOVE all ones!.

Congratulations guys, it seems for you 30 years since the dream started it off and all the story behind you has been great. It seems to me 10 years since the very first moment I started to listen to you guys!. Happy 30th anniversary!

Greetings from Colombia!

Thanks for all of the memories, DT. Congratulations on one hell of a run!
I was a child of mid 80's metal/rock. Favorite bands at the time were Rush, Iron Maiden, Queensryche and a little known band called Fates Warning. DT took all aspects of these, chewed them up and spit it out into WDADU. I was hooked ever since!
I can't say much more than was has already been said here. But I will say this; regardless of the age of the Dream Theater CD, I never grow tired of it. It always feels fresh to me!

Myself and a friend of mine had planned for a few weeks to go see Dream Theater, live in concert, in Wichita, KS. on June 17, 1993.  We were both big fans of the song Pull Me Under and after listening to the entire cd, couldn't wait for the concert.  I thought, these guys are amazing musicians... I was correct.  Well, on the day of the concert, my friend told me that he wasn't going to go the concert... we lived about an hour and 45 minutes away in the middle of Kansas.  I was passing by a friend of my younger sister's house and she was on the front porch, I stopped and made some small talk and told her what had happened and said that I was going to another friend's house to see if he wanted to go.  She told me that if he didn't go, she would go with me.  Well, the other friend didn't want to go so I went back the girl's house and told her that she was going, BECAUSE I WASN'T MISSING THIS SHOW.  We had to hurry, but we made it in time for the start of the show.  IT WAS AMAZING!!! I've been a fan ever since I heard Pull Me Under... have EVERY album and a few DVDs. Oh, and the girl that went with me to that concert in 1993, we have been together ever since... yep, 22 years, married and have a son (who also likes DT).  Needless to say, Dream Theater means a lot to me... and even holds a special place in my wife's heart. Thanks guys for being a HUGE part of what has become my life.  Here's to 30 more years!!!  ;)

Of the last 30 years you people have been making music, I have been aware for the last 4, thanks to my growing obsession of Rush leading me to find the song Octavarium, where my interest in the band started. I don't think I'd be able to put in the time and physical stress to tour with other people, though it has at least partially inspired me to begin composing music for orchestra. Your music has helped me a great deal in becoming more aware and open of other music, sort of indirectly, since me becoming more open to music can be directly associated with me finding this forum after becoming a fan of Dream Theater.  :lol

Keep putting out better music, and always progress forward with new ideas.

Greetings gentlemen....

Music has always been an integral aspect of my life, every single step had it's requisite note, and ever since I heard those ominous opening notes of Pull Me Under come out of my radio at work and infiltrate my soul, the music of Dream Theater has been an integral part of that soundtrack. From my highest highs to my lowest lows, you have always been a steady force to pull me through, and trust me, there have been some beastly highs and lows in those years, enough to encompass the lifetime of my daughter and more. Twelve albums, eleven live shows, and endless nights of destroying my hearing because it just couldn't be loud enough and countless mornings of waking up with headphones askew because once again Six Degrees had lulled me to sleep with a Goodnight Kiss. Even more so are the most excellent fellow fans I have come across through this community, a good handful who are invaluable, life long friends. What can I say to a group of gentlemen who provided one of the most important and integral aspects of my life other than thank you, thank you, thank you.

Happy 30 years of making memories and to many, many more!!!!

Well, what an awesome band. The first time I heard Dream Theater, I was going through some tough times, back in 2009. I was browsing youtube for music, and after a random click Octavarium popped up. The intro captivated me and drew me into a world of its own. Then at the end of it I started crying. Ever after that I've been a fan of Dream Theater.

30 years, already?  It feels like I was walking into RCMH just yesterday for the 20th anniversary show.

I fell in love with you guys back in 2000.  I had the immense pleasure of seeing you for your 20th anniversary show.  You've inspired me to draw, your music has been with me through thick and thin, and I'll never regret that day I listened to SFAM.

Thanks for being you, and for still being around.

Dream Theater is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year.  Our fans are very special to us!  What message would you like to give the band on this majestic anniversary? Head over to the Dream Theater Forum and leave your anniversary message for the band, and thanks.
I first heard of D.T. back in 1992. I had met John Myung, and i had NO idea who he was! So here i am talking to the GREAT MYUNG!  just having some nice conversations from time to time. He probably doesn't remember me, but John thanks for those late night talks!  So when i first listened to Images & words,  i was shocked!  MY favorite song off of that is pull me under! BUT!!!  Another Day is the one that really caught my attention!!!   And I'm  completely  amazed that they are still here, and making inspiring music for the world to hear!!!   Paul....(long-island ) :https://www.dreamtheaterforums.org/boards/Smileys/default/headbang.gifmetal

Hi, Dream Theater.
I'm Romain, 22 years olds, a French guy who want to thank you. And what a best occasion than for your XXXe aniversary?

Why specialy XXX years for this thanks?
I explain why this number is big.

It start at high scool. No special passion, not a big lover of art, but one day at music scool, the teacher pass a strange music, a kind of music that i had never heard (at this time i was only listen popular music, never original, without any emotion)

I had search the name of this music on the web ans what i see? The clip of Constant Motion.
I had never see or heard a kind of music like that. A band un black with some of them with long haires, playing fast and as i had never see.

I want to see more.

I search a random other video, and i fall on the final of the concert at N.Y. City for the XXe birthday of DT.
The song?
Metropolis Pt.1.
What i see? A storm of emotion, instruments (because of the SCORE) and technic.
The solo of J.Myung arrive: and it's just like an explosion inside my brain and i just can't breath.
I want to play like this.

One month later, i had take my first bass and combo amp.
Year after year, my passion grow, i meet amazing people, still listening DT and feel all the emotions that your music give.
And it start with live that you mad Xyears ago.

To one of the best band of the world:
AN INFINITY NUMBER OF THANKS AND HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE OLD AND ACTUAL MEMBERS OF THIS AMAZING JOURNEY!

When I was about 13 and first getting interested in music and learning to play guitar my friend told me "If you like guitar solos then you should listen to Dream Theater" This was just after Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence came out. I listened to Blind Faith, The Glass Prison, and About to Crash and I was hooked. I bought the CD a couple of weeks later and then gradually all of the other albums. Before you, my favorite bands were Joe Satriani and Led-Zeppelin, but you guys were on a completely different level.

6 albums and 13 years later, I have still never heard anything as good as Dream Theater, And I listen to tons of awesome bands all the time. Most bands produce 2 or 3 really good albums and then they either start to sound the same or just aren't as good, but DT has continued to impress and surpass expectations. I consider Scenes From a Memory to be kind of like my bible. t and other DT music is filled with so many great messages hat help me figure out my life and get through hard times. I cant tell you how many times I've been sad about a girl, and the only way I could comfort myself was to remember "There's a new love that's born for each one that has died"

I have become a great guitarist and pianist over the years, mostly from learning to play dream theater songs. Music is my greatest passion in life, and my love for composing and discovering intersting music is all due to Dream Theater. Without DT I would be a very different person, most likely another one of the millions of people riding the bandwagon of the next "cool" band every couple of months without ever experiencing and appreciating music on the level that I love DT's music. It is so original and well written, composed without any preconceptions of what music should sound like or boundries of what music can be, while still being so fun to listen to that I can listen to it over and over for 13 years and it still be more entertaining than anything else.

And I know that many others share my feelings, DT is a huge inspiration for nearly all of my other favorite bands and really the entire progressive metal community.

Thank you Dream Theater for enriching my life and the lives of countless others, thank you for giving me music that brings me more joy than anything else in this world, and keep up the good work. I look forward to more amazing music soon.  :metal

Greetings from Myanmar. I knew that Dream Theater will be my favorite band after I heard 'Pull me under' from sound-box. My favorite line-up of Dream Theater is James Labrie, John Petrucci, John Myung, Mike Portnoy and Jordan Rudess. But I agree that Mike Mangini is the best substitute for Portnoy. Thanks for the very good songs and music! Please come to Myanmar. You have a lot of fans here. Happy 30th Anniversary!

No where to start, but I want to thank you for everything. I still remember that first time I started listening to Dream Theater in 2008 with As I Am, panick Attack, The Root Of Evil, Never Enough. Honestly I have no words to thank the great who are truly mean a lot to me. In 2012 I had the opportunity to attend one of the shows of Dream Theater at Luna Park, Buenos Aires, Argentina and it was certainly something very special for me, because earlier that year my dad died of cancer and he was who introduced me to the music of Dream Theater. In 2014 I had the opportunity to see them twice in the Mandarine Park and was really the recital of my dreams.
Dream Theater will always be the great inpiración for me (though not touch any instrument) inspires me to draw parts of the lyrics and designing layouts of each of the members.
So Happy 30th Anniversary, DREAM THEATER!!!! Thanks for everything, without you it would not be the same!!!

Hi guys, I really hope this message will arrive to you,
The first memories of you is when I was twenty. One friend gave me one great and inimitable gift, the CD of  one of your masterpiece, Images and Words. It was tremendous, I think I spent all that summer listening the album. And then, slowly, came the others, and I always live the weeks before the release in a state of strange anxiety. I could not wait, cause I know that the encounter of the poetry and magic of your unlimited talent will create something, again, of magic. Sometimes, when I listening to your album, I feel the sense of life, I could really believe in God, cause only something of inexplicable and mysterious could have created a so beautiful think like Dream Theater. So, I’m sorry for my English, I’m Italian and of course I will be in Pistoia next July. And I have a small request: one of my favorite song, one of that mystic  songs  is “The count of Tuscany”. I think that there cannot exist a concert in Tuscany without that song. So, please, give to me and to all the Italian fans the possibility to live a strong and indelible emotion like listening The Count of Tuscany in a darky Tuscany night.  Thanks, and remember that all the finest wines improve with ages…

Happy 30 Anniversary! :D I remember when my brother introduced me to DT music that afternoon in 2007. I was blown away listening to SFAM, and it took me some months to carry on and listen the rest of the discography (nowadays I'm in love with Awake, but SFAM will be always special for me, for the sake of nostalgia :P).
Thank you for your music, guys! I love it, it makes me feel happy and I hope to hear it again live when you come to Argentina.

Just created the strength to write it here right now.

I was about 12 years old the first time a heard about Dream Theater, from a neighbour. It was 2004, maybe almost 2005, as they were already getting ready for their next album, as I heard from him. I looked after it and, oh gosh, how that sounded good to me. And things couldn't get better with Octavarium next year. I searched more about the band the years to come, looking after old materials and albuns as well as following future releases and works.

Time goes by 'till I made to the college, in 2011. There, I met a new friend. What made us get closer was the common joy and love for Dream Theater. This band was the link that brought me to one of my best friends I could have had. We shared our life experiences as Dream Theater played at the background, just like a soundtrack. One of those, never to be forgotten, was "Space-dye Vest", resembling all our love delusion with women and relationship. As silly as it might sound, those moments bounded us like brothers.

We made some promises, like watching all Dream Theater's DVDs  in sequence and going in their next concert here, in Brazil. And we made it, at october 2014, waiting at the doors hours and hours before the beggining. It was my first DT concert. And how I was hoping to hear Space-dye Vest, even though the chances were scarce, I thought. Well, it came just after Scarred, as who looked behind to look at me just to say "You're gonna cry right now", laughing. And I almost did. I'll never forget that day.

This dearest friend of mine died this year, 03/29/2015, victim of a running over. I can't truly express how badly I miss him, but I can say this band brought me together to one of the best friends I could have. All the discussions about each single album, whiskey glasses and laughters. All became to be because one day we sat beside to each other and said 'hey, you like Dream Theater too!".

In this 30th year, thank you for giving us such inspiring songs and beatiful concepts of music. Thank you for making this friendship possible at the very beggining. And please, give to your fans a brilliant new album to enjoy. I guess he would really look foward to that. "You're gonna cry right now". Yeah. This time, you got it right, you jerk.

"Move on, be brave/ Don't weep at my grave/ Beacuse I'm no longer here/ But please never let/ Your memory of me disappear"

I first heard DT during the hair band days. A friend invited over one day and said "you gotta hear these guys. It's better than all the other bands." As a musician myself I rolled my eyes. All the hair bands sounded the same but different, so what could these guys possess that no one else did?

To say I was blown away must be the understatement of the century! I was instantly hooked and they have influenced my own musicianship in myriads of ways.

Then came I&W, and if I thought WDADU was great, this album took it all. It played the tape to death and brought it back to "The Wall" to exchange for a free new copy. And then it happened, we were all given permission to go to concerts.

The first of many was Old Bridge NJ. It was a small, intimate  venue that perpetually smelled like booze and cigs. And the gig didn't ever start til about 12:30 AM. Once it started I somehow managed to be in the front row every time, pressed hard against the stage. But it was all worth it. Same for Awake but by then the little club built a barrier on the front of the stage.

Then came the ytsejam listserve emails. In the begining it was maybe 3-5 times per week, and by the time it got to Awake it was all spam all day long. Undeterred I wrote a massively long posting series about Awake, analyzing the lyrics and music in minute details. From that list I also bought a few bootlegs of the concerts I went to as well as some other stuff produced by Skadz. Some really rare stuff too.

There is so much that can be said about the band, about all the members past and present, about the fans, the experiences, everything that is Dream Theater. I have carried their music with me throughout my life for the last 27ish years and I still wait anxiously for the next album and concert.

Thanks for all the great memories, and looking forward  to the next 30 years. Best wish for Mazel, Hatzlacha, brocha, nachas, and parnassah tova b'revach (Jordan will translate).

I suppose this will look like any other fan letter and I think it is too, though this is and will be my first and last at the same time. You could say that I had a moment of weakness and succombed to the fan side of me.

I've been trying many different begginings for this, and I suppose I will never find the best way to express these emotions that are still resonating after listening to surrounded from the live recorded performance of chaos in motion.

I could almost say with confidence, that this hole live performance sounded like you guys had a lot of fun playing that night. Fun you've missed for a while. Anyways, back to my main topic.

Even though I've continued to listen to Dreamtheater occasionally these past 15 years, Mike Portnoy's leaving seamed to me at the moment like the deciding factor about this bands end for me. But... even as I am writing this, this urge to write ''I was wrong'' keeps surging.

Why? Simple. No band has or never will be able to embody these exact thoughts I have at the moment:

As I've been told by a wise man, in life, shit hapens. And all you can do to keep your dignity during these times is to keep trying to achieve your goals, to move forward.

When I listen to DreamTheater, I keep on seeing these glimpses of my past difficulties, as I am sure they are too when playing, and can't help but feel complete while hearing their music, and only theirs.

This... this is exactly what music should be. Not just the sounds, not just the musicians and their talent, but the ability to leave a mark on each and every one of us.

We all want to leave a mark on this earth before leaving it, but not all can.

So... to DreamTheater I say,

After 30 years of existence,

keep on rocking in this free world!

Take all of our Dreams and keep performing on your stage for us, so that we might be able to dream a little too.

That's all folks.

Hello DT! Don't know how to start... Thank you so much for being who you are, thank you for the inspiration! You are the best in the whole world; I cannot imagine my life without listening to your music every day. It's an honor and a pleasure to be your fan.

The first song that my brother showed me was Octavarium, and I couldn't believe my eyes and ears. I continued to search and never stopped! I never found a band that was exactly my style, that I really liked to hear, but then I found you!

Thank you again, thanks for the beautiful lyrics, thanks for the dedication you have had during these 30 years, we are so proud of you! Please don't stop playing.... together!

I have piano classes and my brother is teaching me guitar, and anytime I'm practicing, all I think about is that I wanna be like you, you are my motivation and inspiration!

I'm only 15 years old, and you probably know it but you are incredible, and there will never be enough words to describe you! I really really love your songs, your technique, your passion, your ability to composition and performance!

Happy 30th Anniversary,  looking forward to the next 30 years!!

I hope someday I can see you live and have a talk with you!

Love from Portugal, Beatriz R. (please come here on this tour!!)  :heart  :metal

Hello dear Dream Theater!!!
I want congratulate you with your anniversary and wish all the BEST… I really love you as musically as personally. What your music’s done for me it’s priceless… Let me tell you a story…
I live in Russian Federation\Khabarovsk city… In childhood I was very weak because doctors gave me an injection that changed my physical shape (The skeletal system and now I can’t walk yet), health and my life too. Doctors tried to change the situation but it was In vain … I didn’t know should I live or should I die during a difficult treatment they prescribe to me. There were 14 years of experiments they did over my body (injections, drugs etc..). I was a child, when the doctors set me three mistaken diagnosis and nobody knows what to do even now. The skeletal system health is undefined my real diagnose too. They said I wouldn’t stay alive… But they were wrong… I was inspired by JP & I’m going for Powerlifting I’m the one among sportsmen whose own weight is only 25 kilos in our paralympic-sport school and I do bench press 40 kg In honor of JP.  I can’t tell everything here but guys thank you very MUCH you develop me and show me the right way to move!!!!!!!
Now I’m 30 years old. When I was 15 I’ve met your incredible music that changed my life it was written on a cassette of my sister… I became your fan, I understood YOU SING MY LIFE!! The first masterpiece was SFAM… My friend and I translated it from English into Russian)) JP writes special lyrics so it’s not easy to translate it to the other language quietly closer to the meaning sometimes… I’m planning to translate all albums…
Soo!! HAPPY ANIVERSARRY!! Love, Inspiration, health.. I have no such vocabulary to say all I feel!! Guys I love you with all my heart!!! JP you’re my guardian angel who makes incredible magic things in my life come true… You’re like my parents)))) I have only wish to join to you one day! Please Come to Khabarovsk!!!     :heart :heart :heart

The first time I hear DT was the Train Of Thought in 2005, days later DT come to Barcelona and I didnt come to see them for my ignorance.... one friend gives me this album, for this time i listen to slipknot ( im obsessed by drums!!!) and think that joey jordison was the best drummer in world.... later than hear Stream Of Consciousness my opinion changes and I start listening DT albums one and another. I have all albums and the When Dream in vinyl. the most stronger thing about DT is when was foundated in the same month and year that I born. that thing is special for me.....

From the grandeur of 'Octavarium' to the overtures of '1928', or the heartfelt lyrics of Mike Portnoy on 'The Best of Times' to the virtuoso ability of Mike Mangini shown on 'The Enigma Machine' - Dream Theater's music is something I hold closely to heart. It is a pleasure to see a timeless ensemble such as Dream Theater celebrate 30 years of playing the best progressive metal music in the world and I hope that there are many more years ahead for the band to continue doing what they are passionate about and also continue igniting passion within fans such as myself.

The spirit carries on!

I haven't posted in this forum for what feels like an eternity, but after hearing about this message to the band, I thought it appropriate to come back and let you know how much the band means to me. From here on out, this message goes out to the band.

Hi. I'm Mike. You met me once outside the rosemont theater on your dramatic tour. Although my presence is unmemorable compared to the vast multitude of fans you meet everyday, saying hi meant a great deal to me. Without your music, I don't know where I would be. To this day, whenever I need redirection with my art, hope in times of darkness, or just a simple pick me up, you are there for me.
To you, this is beautiful music. It truly is, and I concur. Without it, I don't know how I would have perservered through the hard times I have endured.
And for that, I thank you.
Thanks for the memories. :)

What I mean to say is something that I don't know how to say properly, so simply put: Thank you for providing amazing music that is both timeless and always new. Both your music and lyrics have inspired me for a long time. Congrats on making it to 30 years! Here's to many more years of happiness and great music.

I remember the first time I ever listened to a "Dream Theater" song must have been when I got through "Guitar Hero World Tour" for the very first time and played "Pull Me Under" throughout the credits of the game. At that point it was just one of the hardest and most complicated songs I've ever played, but I liked it very much.
A few months later my best friend and I were sitting together at another friends home. The three of us had a band together a that time. My best friend introduced us to the "Live At Budokan" DVD and I was just blown away. For me, as a bassist, a completely new world opened up in front of my eyes, when I saw John Myung's playing. Also the other four member's abilities were absolutely astounding and their music was so complex, technical and at the same time did not lose any emotionality at all. It was simply unlike anything I've ever heard before. From that moment on I knew that this was the music I wanted to play, to learn, spent time with and that would inspire me throughout my entire life.
That was in 2008. Anno Domini 2015 you're still my favorite band. I've been seeing you every single time you came to Europe since 2009 and will continue doing so. Your music has helped me through many times in life. May it be good and joyful, or hard and complicated days. I've once heard someone say that the music you always listen to and that is your favorite will always provide a feeling of safety, a familiar emotion that just simply feels like home. I can tell he or she was right.
I love the music you play, I love you as a band, I love your personalities, even though I only had the chance to talk to you once yet. I am thankful for everything you've done and for the music you create. You probably don't know what you and your songs mean to me, but be sure I will always keep supporting you as much as I can.
Happy 30th Anniversary!

Been a fan for a bit over 10 years now, and for that entire time DT has been an inspiration to me. You've helped me get through some hard times and good times. Seeing Dream Theater live the two times I've been able was a literally epic experience!

I was first introduced to Dream Theater in 2004 by a friend at an athletics club. I was hooked straight away and proceeded to buy every single album they had released up to that point. We went on a family holiday to Florida in 2005 and I found out Dream Theater were playing in Orlando so I persuaded my dad to take me along.

When I started university two years later I met my future husband wearing a Dream Theater t-shirt at the local student’s union. We saw them play whenever they came to the UK including my home city in Newcastle-upon-Tyne where I caught Portnoy’s drum stick despite being only 5 foot 3 and unable to catch a cold!

Later we bought the Black Clouds and Silver Linings box set where we won one of the few Silver Tickets to meet the band, which was an amazing experience.

Finally last year after 8 years together we got married, I walked down the aisle to our favourite band, and we did our first dance together to ‘Along for the Ride’.

So thank you Dream Theater for all of the music, and most of all for being the reason I met my husband who takes great delight in the fact he was born in 1985, the same year as the band formed (Sorry for mentioning that!)

I was 19 when I went to a vintage music store in Tel-Aviv, sometime in 1995. I was checking this Jackson guitar that I ended up buying. Playing Metallica's Enter Sandman on it. Suddenly approached a guy who used to be my neighbour (now he's neither my neighbour nor a guy, as a simple operation in Thaliand changed that little thingy...). I didn't know it but apparently he's been playing bass. He told me I should listen to this band called Dream Theater. They try to make heavy metal into art and they have this really great guitarist called John Petrucci.
Awesome, thanks. Off I went to a near record store (we used to have these back then, before internet) and looked on the shelf. I picked one CD randomly and I had this rule - I didn't like listening to a CD before I bought it since most of the CD's I owned needed more than one listen. So I simply picked one. It was A change of seasons. The musicianship blew me away. I LOVED it. But I was disappointed that hearing such an amazing song, I only got covers on the rest of the album. I was thirsty for more. And although it was a 23 minute song, it was still only one song. So I had to get back to Tel-Aviv, bought Awake and the rest is history. Seen DT 5 times in Stockholm as I live in Sweden for the last 12 years. Last 2 times were Meet & Greet, and I have a 7-string Schecter guitar with Petrucci's signature pick-ups. Took it to the show and now I have DT autographs on that one :)

From the Red

My journey with you has been curious. I am after all, the Red.

My friend hippie stumbled upon "Overture 1928" one winter day in late 2003, and after having me listen to it, i of course went digging for more. Although he did not ultimately find the music to his tastes, i did. Being that 'Train of thought' was the newest album at the time, i started with this, and it does to this day remain one of my favorites.

As a singer, i began to practice on your songs every day, at one point singing your entire discography in one single 7 hour marathon.

It was not until around 2006 that i happened upon your extensive archive of bootlegs, and it was then that i really began to dig into your history of sound. To me, every show is a new album, and the most definitive truth of ones history.

It was during this time that i first met Edward Polzin.
Through him i was able to dig ever deeper into your recorded archives, hearing hundreds of shows, and appreciating the energies of your music not just from tour to tour, but from month to month.

Despite this indirect connection, i am of course one who was never truly inside the room, and upon the distinct shifts in your sound i can only guess at the story of your lives.

While i do enjoy your 1992-1994 shows, i will always feel that the raw energy and emotion of the years 1995-1997 are far superior. I remember when first reading about the vocal injury, i had assumed this period to be something less, buried in history. Hearing these shows for the first time was an awakening of sorts. I even came to believe that the injury itself was a lie.

For all my love of Train of Thought, i place Six Degrees (my favorite) and Falling into Infinity at the top. Sure, the album cut of Falling was so badly mangled, but the songs themselves, and so many of the buried tracks shine with brilliance in show. It is the shows from 1996 and 1997 that i find myself most often returning to. I've never heard a better Ytse Jam than 1996. I've never heard James more powerful than 1997.

It goes then without saying that this is due in part to that i have always adored what Derek brought to the band. He is truly a brilliant mind for melodies and themes. But let it stand that Jordan's melodies gave us Six Degrees.

Often i do lament that your tours do not cover more ground from your work, like is the case with Pearl Jam. It is tough to think of all the songs that have not been played for so many years.

Here are a smattering of my favorites, bolded ones being the total favorites:
Another Won, Afterlife, Ones who help to set the sun, Under a Glass Moon, Innocence Faded, Lifting shadows off a dream, Scarred, A change of seasons, Take away my pain, Anna Lee, Hell's Kitchen (full), Raise the Knife, Where are you now?, Burning my soul, Overture 1928, Through her eyes, Misunderstood, About to Crash, Solitary Shell, This dying soul, Honor thy father, The answer lies within, These walls, Forsaken, The dark eternal night, Repentance, Stargazer, Breaking all Illusions

There is a certain pattern to what parts of your sound i enjoy the most. I will say that for all the fan pressure to hear more Myung penned lyrics, i have always felt most connected to those penned by James. My favorite guitar work by John on this list would have to be Ones who help to set the sun (also favorite lyrics), Take away my pain, Misunderstood, Repentance, and Breaking all Illusions.

Although your self titled album never really stuck with me as much as past works, i have found that the quality of your show sound is lately as high as it has been since 1997/2003/2004. I feel that Mangini has a very slightly different fall to his beat, maybe best put as a little more Tool like in its ability to give breathing space to the sound.

I am very looking forward to hearing your next album.

Edit: Just listened to About to Crash, As i Am, and The spirit carries on from Metalhammer 2015. Among the best versions (virgins) of the songs i have ever heard. Power of Mangini on display.

I suffer from numerous psychological issues, but the music of Dream Theater has helped me since I was 13 years old.

I used to be running from The Enemy Inside, but then I realized that I was trapped inside of an Octavarium. Sure, my wheel's always been in Constant Motion, but isn't that just because I'm Learning To Live? So take me As I Am, this is a New Millennium and I am still In The Presence Of Enemies. For so long I was stuck living in Hollow Years, but I realized that The Spirit Carries On and most importantly The Answer Lies Within. Unfortunately, I have my own Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence. But as long as The Count Of Tuscany is not knocking at my door, I can Take The Time and live Another Day.

In 1990, my step father and I were looking for new talent or talent that was new to us and we had stumbled upon a band named Dream Theater in a Columbia house catalog. We both were dream enthusiasts and thought the name was very intriguing. My step father bought the tape we say entitled "When dream and day unite" and let me listen to it on my own free time. He and I became a fan of theirs from that day. He a bit more than I

It was approximately late winter of 1992, I just arrived home on leave from the US Coast Guard when my step father, Ed, informed that he had gone to a DT concert and a meet and greet. He told me that he had the opportunity to speak with the band and their fan club manager. Ed went on to tell me  that the club manager had asked him if he was the one from Maine sending Fates Warning all of the fan mail. The manager had informed Ed that he was also the fan club manager of Fates Warning. Ed, knowing how much of a fan I was,  informed the manager that it must have been his step son (me) who had been sending those letters to FW.  I was excited to know that my letters made such an impression.  My step father then  invited me down to the basement where he had all of his recording and other musical equipment with a promotional cd entitled, "Dream Theater: Metropolis Part I: The Miracle and Sleeper". He sat me down, turned his stereo up and out came this music that vibrated thru me, making every sense of my being want to ignite. It was a moment that you never forget. Weeks would go by that I would be blasting that cd until the album came out. From there it made 1992 a very unforgettable year.

DT has been a huge part of our lives since 1990. The meeting with the band and the club manager, who gave my step father that promo will forever be etched in our souls. Thank you for the years and we look forward to many more to come.

I have a very important question pertaining to the band and that all of the other fans I know would like to know and have thought about this before. I see there are so many venues and 2 year tours now which must be extremely exhausting for you to play over and over with only 6-8 months of fun and fresh creative studio time. We know your determined, but with age and time, if it became too much to travel and be a way from family,  would you tour less and possibly put out more albums instead for fans like myself?

Please do another USA tour!

Congrats on 30 years!

Hello and greetings from Greece!
20 years ago,i friend that we had the same love for all things Deep Purple,Whitesnake etc, told me "dude, check out a band named Dream Theater. Go buy their album "Images And Words" and i went to a record store and bought it.I was amazed from the first notes and by the end of "Take The Time" i declared that Dream Theater is my favourite band. I was a lucky soul that went to see the epic, glorious historic first ever concert of DT in Greece,in Lycabettus Theatre and well, long story short they are still my favourite band.i Even travelled to NYC to see them live when they played support for the Iron Maiden at the Madison Square Garden!
Some of the most cherished memories i have are having soundtrack the music of DT.
So thank you for all these years of great music,of changing lives through your art,of travelling around the world meeting your fans and here's to more decades of gracing our ears with marvellous music!
Happy 30th anniversary Dream Theater!

Dream Theater has been in my life for 16 years now... and I'm 29, so that's more than half of my life. I was listening to so many music, trying to find something that I fully liked, but I found available music in Argentina so basic... so empty. A friend of mine was dating someone; we were kids, so I went with her to this guy's house for them to hang out a bit, like a chaperone. He was listening to the just released Scenes From A Memory album; it blew my mind.
I remember being at home, headphones on, listening to this amazing album. The chills that I felt when I listened to the last "open your eyes, Nicholas". That was it. I was drowned into this Dream Theater ocean and never left.

16 years later, having seen them perform live 9 times, having tattooed my back with the Majesty logo and gathered a crazy amount of CDs, DVDs and other collectibles; I'm still here in the same vortex, not having enough of this band.

They get into my brains and make me think things twice, make me see the world, people, situations and life in a way I may have never been able to without them. I've grown so much thanks to Dream Theater; I've been down and they've brought me up. I've accepted situations in my life, I now see death and family so differently...

Can't get enough. Thanks for the magic, thanks for the mind widening, thanks for the music, thanks for the life.

I was born in 1989. Since I was born I lived with my parents and my 4 uncles. 3 of them really love rock music in that era and always playing them loudly. Since they play it anytime and super-loud, my little self can't help but influenced to listen to it everyday. That's why since at very early age I was already 'contaminated' by Dream Theater. Ever since I was 3 I was hooked with that "light to dark dark to light light to dark dark to light" of Surrounded. I hummed the melody of Ytse Jam. I 'sang' the chorus of Pull Me Under (in a broken English of course). Several years later my uncles and I began to watch Mike Portnoy's drum clinic video and Dream Theater live videos. This added to my enthusiasm towards Dream Theater after watching their crazy skills on stage and John Myung's fabulous hair. It also grew the interest of playing music instruments in me.
As I grow older I began to understand Dream Theater's music and love them even more. I listened to Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence almost everyday during my junior high school life. I had a crush on John Petrucci. I still admired John Myung's majestic hair. During my high school life I re-discovered all the old albums and listen to them again, and finally completely understand and enjoy the music that I listened to long time ago. I cried when Mike Portnoy quit in 2010 since he is the reason why I started playing drums.
My no.1 wishlist which I dream of since I was a teenager is to watch Dream Theater performing in my country, Indonesia. When they finally came for the first time in Indonesia in 2012 I was already grown up and very happy that my dream and day united (ha ha). I almost shed a tear when they finally performed in front of my very eyes. I scream and singalong (the lyrics and even the instrumentals) out loud. When they came back last year I also watched them and still feeling surreal as ever.
So thank you Dream Theater for being the soundtrack of, pretty much my whole life. Though ups and downs, good albums and not (being a fan doesn't mean you have to like everything, sorry), the invasion of any other music genres in my life, you are still my no.1 band forever. I hope you stay together for a very long time and keep producing a very high quality music as ever. And please make Indonesia as a fixed country for every Asian tour! I'm very happy that you visit Indonesia for 2 consecutive tours, but too bad that Metropolis Pt.1 is not in the set list, since it is my favorite song. I hope you'll put in it the set list on your next visit!  ;)

My Name is Nic Kubes and I am A 14 Year old drummer. Dream Theaters music has not only impacted me musically, but also has made me a better person. Your Music sets me apart and helps define who I am, I have always been kind of an outcast, so your music gives me inspiration for being the best person I can be while not being the most popular kid in school, Sort of like you not really being mainstream (Dream Theaters Greatest Hit ... and 21 other songs). But thats what its all about. Playing your music in bands is challenging, but thats what makes it fun, like in one of my bands, we play the Dance Of Eternity, Metropolis Pt 1, Enigma Machine and others. I had the honor of meeting Mike Mangini at Vics Drum Shop in Chicago. It was an unbelievable experience that I will never forget. Thank you for doing what you do and inspiring so many like me. Thank you for 30 years, and I'll see you on the next tour.

About 7 years ago, my father bought 'Awake'. I was 8 at the time, but I LOVED the whole thing. Dream Theater has been part of my life since then. Dream Theater is kind of the 'soundtrack' of my life. When I listen to Dream Theater, I can relate their songs with many things that happened in my life. Dream Theater has been with me on my happy and sad moments, at my best and worst memories. I have no words to describe how Dream Theater has changed my life. Thanks for all of those moments, emotions and the best of music.
      All the best,

This is going to be such a love letter but after all these years you really deserve it.  :heart

In the 90's I was such a teenage girl when I heard Another Day for the first time. I fell in love with the music immediately. 20 years ago... Dream Theater has been with me in all turning points of my life ever since. Now I'm 32, and falling in love with Dream Theater deeper and deeper every day.

Your music has been there for me for better, for worse; in sorrow and pain; in love and hate; in life and death. It's the unconditional soundtrack of my daily life. Always in my heart.

I love you James, John, John, Jordan and Mike.
I also love you Mike, Derek, Kevin and Charlie.
Thank you for outstanding music and wise lyrics.
Thank you for the three awesome shows in Helsinki (2009, 2012, 2015).
Thank you for everything you have given me.
There are no words to describe how much I love you.  :heart
Hope to see you soon again.

"I walk beside you
Wherever you are
Whatever it takes
No matter how far"

Happy 30th anniversary. Hope to spend the 60th anniversary too!

Most of all, I love you James LaBrie!!!  :heart  :-* You're the hottest of the hottest!  ;)

Now it's all said and done.

Dream Theater is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year.  Our fans are very special to us!  What message would you like to give the band on this majestic anniversary? Head over to the Dream Theater Forum and leave your anniversary message for the band, and thanks.
1st heard about you guys in 2005 during my first year of music college in Edinburgh, was never into or against metal, just never heard it. One day my guitar instructor presents the 3 pieces i had to learn for my performance test, sunshine of your love, hey joe and pull me under. Congratulations with the anniversary!

I started listening to you right about when Octavarium was released and haven't stopped since!
You are all very inspiring artists and the music you create is so versatile! There is a song for every possible mood, whether you're angry, sad, happy, joyous or just want some good ol'e music.
My all time favorite has to be Spirit Carries On, there is such a big message in the song which reaches out to all people regardless of nation, race or religion. It is an amazing number and proves how you are a one of a kind band.

One of my biggest moments was when I have had the honour of meeting and greeting you in Copenhagen last year. I spent weeks upon weeks until the meeting working on pencil portraits of all of you, so I could have you sign them when I finally got to meet you. I even brought a copy in case you would be willing to receive it - and you did! I was so proud. You exceeded all my imaginations, both when I discovered how kind and humble you all are and when you went to the stage afterwards and kicked a**.
My other biggest moment has to be when you allowed my husband to create a song potpourri for choir over Scenes from a Memory. I participated in the concert with it and I watched your music touch the heart of strangers who had never heard your music before, but all of them joined together in their hearts when The Spirit Carried On was sung.
To be able to be a part of such a big event, because of your music and your willingness to let music be created is one of the biggest joys of my life.

I thank you for your music and for being an awesome band who makes it possible to reach out across nations and people. That is truly amazing.

Congratulations to the greatest Rock musicians in the world.  30 years of hard work, dedication to your tough (super critical) fan base, and continued commitment to enriching folks lives is simply astounding.  It's hard to articulate how much of a profound impact you've had on my life over the last 21 years that I've been listening to you.  Suffice to say, never has a band grabbed hold of my musical soul like you have.  From my very first spin of Awake back in '94 to present day I've been captivated by your ability to write, play, and produce the most dynamic and substantial music in the world.

Music has always been a huge part of my life, in the 70's it was Zeppelin, Rainbow, Deep Purple and Black Sabbath.  The 80's and 90's chock full of  :metal :metal :metal.  But once I was exposed to Dream Theater I felt complete.  Like all my favorite bands best aspects were all rolled into one.  I remember listening to that initial spin of Awake and just being dumbfounded thinking..."Hey...they sound like These guys, or this band...or that one.  Again, the best features of other bands I'd loved all put into one nice basket.

One of the most amazing things about DT's 30th is that you guys are still so creative and performing at the highest level.  Let's face it, we've seen 30 year old acts that should probably call it a day   :lol But you guys seem like you're just getting warmed up for the next chapter in the Dream Theater chronicles.  Thanks again for the 10+ awesome shows I've been honored to attend and all the memories and experiences you've added to my life.

The first time i heard Dream Theater was hearing The Epic song "Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence", i was amazed by the melody, lyrics and atmosphere that the song provided, quickly my love for the band kept growing more and more, when i realised, i heared all the band's impeccable discography and kept following the next releases always with excitement.
My favorite band is completing 30 years now, and even not being a good writer (as you can see), i needed to pay my tribute because every single day i hear your songs, very few bands and musicians have the capacity to involve the fans like you guys do and you have songs to be listened at every moment of life. i hope this 30 years commemoration to be the one of a lot more to come, i will always be a Dream Theater fan, my love for the band will never die and so do the legacy you made in music.

P.S. I'm brazilian, that's why my english is a little "bad"

In the fall of 1993 I bought my first issue of Modern Drummer (I had just bought my first drumset a few months earlier), it was the September issue, with Max Roach on the cover, and a nice interview with one Mike Portnoy. I read the interview and liked it, and the big drumset of course, I was seventeen.
About six months later I read a review of Awake in the local newspaper. I remembered the band, and the drummer with the big setup, so I just went out and bought the cd, without ever hearing a note.
Before that, my favourite band had been Aerosmith, but when I pressed play, and that fill hit me...

It took a few years before I had any friends that liked DT, so I didn't see them live until the FII tour, but I've seen almost every show they've played in Finland since then, and a few times in Sweden when they didn't come here for a few tours.

Congrats on 30 guys!!!
Would love to see you guys in concert. (Virginia Beach)
DC is a bitch to get to for anyone who has ever had to drive up I95 can tell you. Hoping one day that you all can make it to at least Richmond, Va if Virginia Beach is too small a venue.

I will always be glad that Dream Theater became a part of my life... From the first time I listened to you guys ("Forsaken") I felt like my world had changed and fell in love with your music... a love that keeps going until today. I even saw you guys from the first row at the RockHarz festival this year and I was soooo thrilled for it and enjoyed every minute of it  ;D

I also  wanted to thank you. I hope you will get a chance to read this message, because I really want to say thank you for making the music that saves me when times get tough... Almost a year ago I got hospitalized and diagnosed with a chronic incurable disease, and while I was at the hospital I listened to "Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence" every night. It kept me sane when it felt like my life was falling apart, so I thank you deeply for it. I wouldn't be myself without Dream Theater, and I hope I will come along for the ride for many years still :)

I'm a Finnish fan of young age, barely 18. Four years ago a friend of mine introduced me to this band with a song from the Scenes From a Memory - album. The rest is, as they say, history. I was hooked immediately.
Dream Theater might not be a typical favorite band for a teenage girl, but it is mine and I'm proud of it. There's not another band around that amazes me quite like DT does, with every album. There's so much talent I can't even comprehend it. I think at some point each member of the band has made me want to master their instrument. As a guitarist I gotta say Mr.Petrucci is pretty much the whole reason I ever bought an electric guitar.
There's a Dream Theater song for pretty much every mood and situation, and your songs have helped me through some pretty rough stuff. I saw you live for the first time two weeks ago in Helsinki and was not far away from crying when you guys came on stage. It was such an amazing night and I certainly hope it wasn't my last time seeing you perform. I also hope I'll get to meet you all some day.

I love you James, John, John, Mike and Jordan. Thanks for all the hard work and everything you give us with your music. Wishing for many more wonderful years to come!

Hi guys
In my late teens and twenties, while still playing guitar in a metal band, I knew of a band called Dream Theater. I used to also always read John Petrucci's column in Guitar World that I religiously bought at newsagents in Sydney, Australia.
However, it was my loss that I never even listened to you guys until mid-2009!

I am guilty of wasting life not listening to your incredible music for so many decades. While I can't turn the clock back, I can go on and keep your music close to my heart and wish that now the final line-up has been made with Mike Mangini, that you will keep making the soulful, tasteful, articulate and most wonderful compositions I have ever heard from a group of musicians.

Congratulations for this incredible milestone guys!

Thank you for all the great music, the tears of joy as listen to every note and awesome time signature change in your masterpieces. There is only one Dream Theater and you have become a huge part of my life.

For that I thank you and hope to hear your musical wizardry until the day we all retire! God bless you all and rock on fellas!

Best wishes from Sydney, Australia!

My experience with Dream Theater began in 1992, at that time I was 19 and was in the Brazilian army, this time I listened to songs of Megadeth, Skid Row, Angra, Pantera, and some grunge bands from Seattle as Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, etc
That same year a friend who was also a musician put to play in your car touches the tapes a tape and told me: "You have to hear it, it will be something you will never forget" "then started running A Change Of Seasons!
Wow! My first impression was that it was several songs and one, but right away I could see the extreme technical coupled with the weight and the melody all very harmonious, something that had never ever heard before in other bands.
From that day began for me a frantic search for everything that represents the Dream Theater, are already numerous, CDs, DVDs, Blu-Ray's, T-shirts, 06 live Show's (two in Argentina, two in Rio de Janeiro, two in São Paulo) and two tattoos as eternal tributes to the band!
I can state with heart and soul that Dream Theater is one of my senses and life purposes! My love for the band is such that I named one of my 04 children, under the name of Nicholas, because of the masterpiece Scenes From Memory, ending you do and will always be part of my life!
Thank you for so much joy!
Long live Dream Theater!

It was 1998, I was a 14 year old and I was still trying to figure out several things in my life and giving shape to my personality. I live in a South American country, Colombia, a place were latin music is the norm and music diversity is scarce. Going through my adolescence I was trying to find out where to fit, and I did not feel that I fitted with the people around me.

I started to learn to play guitar and began to take a few steps towards what people here call "Metallica Music" (local people use the word ‘Metallica' not for the band but to refer to the whole Metal Genre). My next door neighbor was a drummer in a famous band from my town, and we used to talk from time to time. One day he passed by, and hearing me trying to play my guitar (and sucking at it), he went inside his house, came back and told me: "Hey, great that you like to rock, here, listen to these guys, they are really good" handing me a weird CD from a band I had never hear before (I did not know many bands back then, so this was hardly a surprise). The CD he gave me was When Dream and Day Unite, and as soon as I listened to YtseJam my whole life completely changed, back then I didn’t know how much that day would mean for me.

Dream Theater has been a huge part of my life since then. It is curious how even though I got to know DT when they were a huge a established act, I still heard to all of their albums in chronological order, and I loved all of them. I heard for countless hours When Dream and Day Unite, until months later, I finally could hunt their following album, and so on... it was quite difficult to find their music here in my country. On a short trip abroad, I bought I&W on an airport, and hearing Metropolis Pt1 was a complete revelation, I didn't know that a band could sound like that!! Months later a friend of a friend had Awake, and Erotomania blew my mind. Later on I got to hear ACOS on a casette tape, when a friend handed it to me telling: "They have a 25 minutes song!" my mind could barely process it, so naive back then, it was hard for me to imagine a single song lasting for so long. I chew all this material, until a friend who worked on a University, bump into a Falling into infinity CD in the lost and found box, and finally, after more than a year, one friend gave me a nice x-mas gift, the SFAM CD along with other album of a band I did not know, he told me that the guy in the music store suggested it when he bought SFAM, the album in question was Liquid Tension Experiment 2.

After finally catching up with them in 2000, I started to wait each couple of years for their new release, and they became part of my life,. The band shaped my view in many things and they are part to blame for the kind of man I am today. I improved my english trying to understand their lyrics and interviews, and thanks to how they put their influences all over their albums, they opened the doors and showed me other bands, some of them now among my favorites, like Pink Floyd (first time I heard of them being DT DSOTM cover), Rush, Yes, King Crimson... and the list goes on. Today I hear those bands and many more, all thanks to that neighbor and to those guys from NY that created the amazing music that fit perfectly in my heart and my mind.

Even though I have lived through different "musical phases" in my life, from the heavy metal obsession (Metallica, Maiden, Sabbath) to the classic rock overdose (The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones), and of course the mighty prog rock, there has always been only one band that is always with me everywhere I go: Dream Theater. No matter my mood, the stage in which I am in my life, DT is always there, mixed with everything else. I do not want to pretend that DT is the "best" band in history (if such a thing exists), I know there are other band who are bigger, and legendary... But even though I greatly enjoy such legends as Queen, The Beatles, Metallica, AC/DC, ... There's only one favorite band for me, really close to my heart. To Mr. Petrucci, Mr. Myung, Mr. Labrie, Mr. Rudess, and Mr. Mangini... and to Mr. Moore, Mr. Portnoy, Mr. Sherininan, Mr. Dominici, Mr. Collins, and to all who in the last 30 years at some point contributed to build what DT is, there's no words to express how important it has been for me what you have done, the only words that come close are:  I LOVE YOUR MUSIC, HAPPY 30th ANNIVERSARY, AND THANK YOU.

Hi all, newcomer here!

I am 36 years old, and I have always been a metal head ever since I remember listening music "for myself" (probably since 12?). Before that... well, I remember listening A LOT to The Beatles, thanks to my parents!

I never really got much into progressive stuff. My favorite band of all times was Metallica, but I also followed the Grunge movement of the time. I also play the guitar since those days. Truth is I've always heard of DT as the gods of progressive metal and technical playing, but never had the curiosity to listen to them (other then 'Pull Me Under').

Around 18, I've met some guitar player friends who were fond of DT and other power/progressive stuff. I've managed to pick some cool new bands with them (Angra is one of them), but once again I've missed the chance of listening to DT properly! How dumb! And I perfectly remember my friends walking around with DT's new album, "Scenes From A Memory"!!! Still, no curiosity at all to listen to them.

But destiny has its turnarounds, and when "A Dramatic Turn Of Events" got out, somehow I got drawn to it. I was mind blown, I had to hear the entire discography! I hope I am not committing any sacrilege here, but I still find that album really good, although I see "Scenes From A Memory" and "Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence" as THE masterpieces!

Since them my life as a music listener changed completely. Right now I spend my days searching and listening for prog music only (and not just prog metal), and got into another level of music listening, for good.

Thanks DT for the great music, for the inspiration, and for opening my mind to a whole new level of music listening! Keep up the good work.

Actually I was listening to Dream Theater my entiree life. My dad is a big fan, so I kinda grew up with this band. Back then he wouldn't have many CDs, the only ones that he had, was DT. Later on he started to earn more money, and the other bands came in too. It was the time when I became huge metal and rock fan, but at the time DT wasn't my all time favourite yet. I was listening to it mainly by chance, when I could hear dad's player. Some day I heard song that I really liked, but I forgot to ask what was it's name. I badly wanted to find it. I started with Octavarium, and back then I would just lay on my bed, listening and singing (which dad didnt really enjoy, he was constantly saying that I'm terrible at it). After few months, when I have already known entire Octavarium by heart, I checked out other albums too. Of course I loved them too. I've read a lot about guys from DT, and James LaBrie became my idol. I thought "one day I'd like to sing just like him". My singing range wasn't impressive at all, so I joined choir in order to improve.
After that I went to my first concert - it was on 5th february, Katowice, Poland. I was stunned, really loved the show. But it wasn't until next year, when I heard band on Metalhammer (Poland 2015, Katowice), that I recognised that they were playing the song, which I liked so much, because of which I started to listen DT. It was "Blind Faith" from Six Degrees! That day felt like the best in my entire life. I hope one day I'll be able to sing just like James :)

I discovered Dream Theater by the end of 2005, an old friend told me the band was going to be in a concert in our city on March 2006 so he give me copies of all Dream's albums for listening them before concert, I did not put enough attention and I did not appreciate them... but they day came and I appreciated them, I loved the concert, I felt my life just begun in that moment, with the powerful drums, guitar, bass, keyboards and voice of them.  I started to love them and I start to also live, it was an awakening to life for me.  I have identified moments of my life with DT's songs... I have bought all their albums, when they present in my city, I go to their concert, I have also gone to the US to see them, also I was part of the people who cooperated on the first edition of their biography "Lifting shadows"... By coincidence, I was planning my wedding on 2014 when I realized they will be on concert in my city on my wedding day... I was "Noooo!!! I cannot believe it, I will not be in their concert because of my wedding!!!"  My now husband told me:  "We are going to marry at noon, we can go to the concert after the ceremony" (That is one of the reasons I married him)  After our wedding, we went to M&G in our wedding clothes, when we told the people that we just got married and we left our party to go with them, it was so nice, everybody congratulated us, security, fans, people of the venue.  When we arrived to meet the guys, LaBrie told us "It seems you are just left the alley" and I told him "Yes, we just got married a couple hours ago", LaBrie was so surprised, Myung wished us the best, Rudess was very sweet, Mangini smiled and also wished us the best and Petrucci told us "This is the best way to start your marriage, how many couples can say Dream Theater played on their wedding day?"  I do not know how many, but my husband and I are one of them, if not, the only one.  Dream Theater is part of my life, totally.  Love and respect  :metal

Few years ago, I was listening to classical music, since I was a music school student, and I also played keyboards in a rock/metal band. Beside classical, I also loved metal, but haven't actually listened to Dream Theater, I guess I was too proud to listen to a metal band influenced by classical music. Like I said, I did love metal, but classical was a whole another world for me, it was like blasphemy to ''merge'' metal with classical music. But luckily, drummer of our band was the only one listening to Dream Theater, so he kept insisting that I give DT a chance. When the self-titled album came out, he sent me Illumination Theory, so I finally said ''well, let's give it a try''. I pressed the ''play'' button, lied down, and focused on the music. By the end of the song, I concluded that it's definitely the best metal song I've ever heard, and it took me only one listening to realize that. Since that day, up until now, DT is basically the only metal band I've been listening to. My rock band started covering DT songs, as well as writing our own progressive metal songs, and many people in our town started listening to Dream Theater as well. Unfortunately, we've never been able to see DT live in our country, Serbia, but I hope you guys come here some day and make our dream come true. Cannot wait to hear the new album by the way, I'm checking all the band members' Facebook pages every day hoping for some new info :D

Cheers, Paul from Serbia

It was a one sided love & hate relationship I had with Dream Theater. Because of a past I don't belong but still know of, I was unable to listen some of your songs (I still am) and a part of me always tried to run away from you guys' songs despite some of them giving me the utmost happiness.

I didn't want to know about you, your band or your songs and seriously I thought if I had the power, I'd erase all about you from at least my and some certain people's memory. Still, I had a strange attachment to and some kind of possesiveness about you guys and that really bugged me.

And not too long ago, I decided to listen every song you had. I already had my nights crying while listening to Endless Sacrifice in my bed, trying to endure the loneliness that was caused by the miles me and my boyfriend had from before, or the time how surprised we were when we noticed the beginning of Losing Time kinda described my outer appearence, or the times I listened to Beneath The Surface and just wished to let myself off from a cliff and so on..

And this summer when I finally had the courage to face your other songs, I found myself and many other things within them. I was able to let go of some harmful habits thanks to Space Dye Vest (Thank God you included it in the album) even now I take power to stand tall from it. I noticed how Solitary Shell pretty much described and About to Crash resembled my life.  I had so many sleepless nights just lying and listening to Wait for Sleep till dawn, lost myself in Another Day, felt like I too, was saved while listening to Finally Free..

The thing I want you to know is, not only your music but also the words you choose are helping us people. When I can't tell even myself what or how I feel, you were there. Yeah I still can't listen some of your songs without wanting to kill myself or bursting into tears -the guilt is mine only, of course- but putting that aside you gave me so many things. Thank you for making my life more bearable, thank you for being there. Happy 30th anniversary~

Thx for the great music. It's been a big part of my life in the 90s. I saw you guys live in high school on the train of thought tour and great album btw. I'm really digging d12 definitely a return to form. I'd love to hear a new release recapturing the feel and sound of my favourite pair of albums from any band I&W and Awake. Congrats, way to go! 30 years, I don't think I could hold a job or a relationship that long, and a band is sort of both at the same time. Good for you. Thanks for Images and Words, Awake, Lines In The Sand, A Change of Seasons, Scenes From A Memory, Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence and Train of Thought.

Even though I don't think the band members will actually read this, and I know I've already posted to this thread, but I still think that I have not expressed my whole feeling of how DT's music affected my life, even though my last post was almost a novel...  :lol

I suffered from long term depression when I was a younger. I was like the girl from 'part two: About to Crash' from 'Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence', that part of the song hits unbelievably close to home. Everyday was agony. In the end, I had to drop out of school and I was like a sad sack for a year or two. Then came the time when I decided to get up, live life, and find happiness in my own way, and so I've found new life in my love for art. And Dream Theater came into my life at that time of change. Your music is like fuel to my creative fire; the style, range, depth, tone of your music just click with my artistic side. It's one of the few things that inspires me to pursue my passion and carries me forward. I've listened from 'Images and Words' all the way to the latest one and I love every single one. I can't even pick my favorite; I'm torn between 'Falling into Infinity', 'Six Degrees', and the self titled album.

Ultimately, words cannot truly describe how much your music means to me. You guys will always be my most favorite band ever. Thank you for being yourselves and being awesome!  :metal

Sincerely,

Kris

Dream Theater is far and away my favorite band of all time--it's not even remotely close. I am so thankful that you guys are around, and I can't wait for the 40th anniversary!

Happy 30th, Dream Theater. I've always appreciated how you guys never slack on releasing quality music, ever since I was introduced with "Awake." Keep up the good work, guys, and here's to many more years and great albums!

Congratulations on 30 years of music!  I've been along for the ride since '92 when I first saw the video for "Pull Me Under" on MTV's Headbanger's Ball.  Since then, I've been a first-day buyer of everything you've put out, seen you guys 23 times and had the pleasure to meet a few of you a couple times.

Thanks for all the music and memories!  Looking forward to many more years of the same.

Really late here, but here is my input :

Hi from France, from a boy who became a man with DT on his side since SFAM.
Thank you for relentlessly giving us so much through your hard work, you are friends, inspiration and a cheering force.
Thanks for showing us that beautiful and epic still exists in this hard world.

I'll never be a rock star nor even a pro artist, but when I'm listening to you, I feel like touching the stars.

I hope for another 30 years with you :)

Hello from Fort St. John BC Canada.  Thanks for the last 12 years of entertainment and inspiration.  I've been blessed to see you guys preform twice in western Canada, once during your first progressive nation tour in Calgary Albert's, and once on the adtoe tour in Vancouver BC.  Both shows I had to drive upwards if 14hrs to attend, but both are forever etched in my mind as wonderful experiences, especially the Vancouver show.  Congrats on the Astonishing, it is a great album and one heck of an undertaking for you guys.  Here's to a long and fruitful future for my favorite band, cheers.

Is there any possibility of having a huge band reunion???

Would make for an awesome live show.... 3 keyboard players, 2 drummers & 2 singers extra.... Like when they did the double stage with Queensryche?

And the 15th anniversary for the WDADU show (Which i have on CD by the way... awesome performance)

Congrats on a great achievement... Saw you guys in London Feb19th.... Astonishing show

In the March 1994 edition of Guitar for the Practicing Musician, Take the Time was transcribed.  This was my introduction to Dream Theater.  Sure I’d heard Pull Me Under on the radio, and I thought it was cool, but I don’t think I even knew the band’s name.  That all changed when I read the Performance Notes section which described, with glowing praise, this amazing new band and their stunning technical achievements.  In all my years of reading GFTPM, I don’t recall the details of any other song description.  But I remember that one.  After reading it, there was no question that I was going downtown the following day to buy the CD.  The rest, as they say, is history.

Images and Words quickly became one of my favourite albums ever.  It was a time when many of my old favourite bands from the 80s were dying off, and grunge was starting to take over the airwaves.  DT pretty much got me through the 90s musically.  When Scenes from a Memory was released in 1999, it blew my mind.  I hadn’t had too much experience with concept albums up until that point, and this one just floored me.  The song Spirit Carries On became somewhat of a personal anthem for me.

That was a long time ago.  In the subsequent years I never quite attained the same enthusiasm for any music as I had for those albums.  I chalked it up to the loss of my youthful exuberance and assumed that, while I love lots of different music, my days of finding a new “best album ever” were over.   When the Astonishing was released earlier this year, I didn’t even buy it right away.  But when I did, I was intrigued.  I found that I could not stop listening.  This is what I had been waiting for!  The concept is cool, yes.  But the music is fantastic.  I have been unsuccessful in my attempts to avoid over-listening.  When I am not listening, I find various songs or phrases floating through my head.  That has not happened to me in a long time.

Gentlemen, I commend and thank you.  You have truly provided me with the gift of music throughout the majority of my life.  To see that you can still be at your best after 30 years is inspiring.

Thanks so much.

PS - please come to Vancouver more often! ;-)

Hey, so i wanted to contribute some guitar lesson videos to the forum. This is the intro riff to our new world exactly the way petrucci plays it if anyone is curious https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HP5yVIynDCk

if you have a request for a riff, or solo lmk. the solos will take longer to transcribe since they're John petrucci solos!

I have the first solo down for this song so lmk if you want me to break it down in youtube video :D

I'm 56 years of age, a lifelong music fan. Six months ago I stumbled across you guys for the first time and you've given me so much joy. My favourite band of all time was Jethro Tull for 40 years! They are now in second spot. Been gradually discovering and really getting into each of your albums one by one. I'm about half way through. Until Jan 16, I'd never heard of Dream Theater or Pull me Under. It was The Astonishing I heard first. I was too late to get a ticket for the Palladium shows in London (I live in Scotland) but hope to catch you next time around. You've also given my own music making a new lease of life, inspiring some new ideas and getting me out of a rut.

Congratulations, and I hope you keep going for another 30!

Sorry to derail the thread a bit, but I'm honestly curious: what was it like being a teenager in the '70s? I grew up in the 2000s, reading all these magazines especially praising the '60s and '70s musicwise. Were all the classic bands -Jethro Tull, Yes, Pink Floyd, Genesis, Frank Zappa, Ramones, Zeppelin, etc.- actually popular amongst teenagers? Were they getting the recognition you read about now, or was history re-written afterwards?

Also, how did you become a fan of Tull? It was around the time of the Songs From The Wood album, right? Did you get to see them live? It must have been amazing.

Those bands were certainly popular amongst teenagers, routinely playing in front of huge audiences full of young people. I was brought up in a rather nice town in the south of England and at weekends we would go up to London to see bands. My first gig ever wasn’t until I was 17 – and it was Jethro Tull at the Hammersmith Odeon, promoting their new album, Songs from the Wood. I went with two class mates, and we still see each other to this day. I got into Tull when I borrowed from my friend a commercially issued pre-recorded cassette tape in 1976 of the then current album Too Old to Rock and Roll. I remember listening to it in my bedroom – it was Ian Anderson’s unique voice that transfixed me first, before his flute playing. That is still one of my favourite albums to this day – hugely underrated in my opinion. I bought Songs from the Wood (on vinyl this time) from the local record shop on the day it was released in 1978.

But kids were definitely into those bands that are now regarded as “classic”. There was Pink Floyd graffiti in the toilet walls, and Zeppelin scrawled across the bike sheds at school. I wore a denim waistcoat to gigs that was covered in bands’ embroidered patches, unexplained oil stains and signed by all three of the then current Motorhead line up – Lemmy, Fast Eddie and Philthy. Hair half way down my back – and thing was, I didn’t stand out, it was the uniform of the day for kids.

That first Tull gig changed my life – I couldn’t believe the volume, although Tull were far from being the loudest. It was Ian Anderson’s humour and repartee as well as the astonishing music that got to me. By the time Stormwatch rolled into town in 1980/1 I was truly dedicated and went to four of the five sold out nights at Hammersmith Odeon.

You mention Genesis – they were huge. I went to their Knebworth open air show in the summer of 1978, and I believe maybe 150,000 others did too. When I saw Led Zep there 12 months later, they played two successive Saturday nights there. My memory is that they played for three hours with almost no self indulgence, just one great song after another.

My interest in out and out heavy music was lit by AC/DC at the Bristol Colston Hall in 1979. Sat in Row B, you could barely make Bon Scott out as the show opened and the first 15 rows were engulfed in dry ice. The sheer power was magnificent – brings hairs up on the back of my neck all these years later just thinking about it. Saw AC/DC with Bon 4 times, and just once with Brian…should have given him more of a chance, but they just didn’t seem the same band without Bon. They’ve done alright with Brian ha ha, and I wish him well in recovering his hearing.

I could go on and on. But I think it is fantastic that someone who grew up in the 2000s has interest in these bygone days. I do feel privileged to have witnessed some of it, and it is nice to share some memories.

Dream Theater, I would like to thank you very much for your entrance into my life. I was hooked the first time I listened to your music and I enjoy every songs you have released. Thank you for all your hard work and dedication for every single song.

Kevin James Labrie, your vocals are fantastic and you really do bring out the mood on each and every song. You allow me to feel how you feel when you sing your songs. The melancholic Disappear, the frightful A Nightmare to Remember....I can feel it all. Even if wasn't your lyric, you still brought the mood out well. Only Portnoy could tell how he truly felt during the loss of his father and even though you didn't lose your father, I absolutely adore your singing on The Best of Times. I respect and admire you for all you have done and how you fought back through food poisoning and all to make a respectable comeback. Thank you.

John Petrucci, a founder of Dream theater....man, what can I say? Words can't merely express how much you have brought to Dream Theater. All the song written by you, every single solo, riff, instrumental section, I find myself in awe at how you deliver. You have been an inspiration to my dad and he just seems so much happier. Some of your songs are my absolute favorite's as I can relate to them well and be able to express myself. You are one awesome guitarist, father and a role model.

John Myung. No matter how silent you are, I hail you as one of the greatest bass players out there. Although there are some songs in which the bass is outshined by other instruments, your work in Dream Theater is fully shown when I hear bass isolated tracks. My favorite's from you are Panic Attack, Metropolis Part 1, and The Dance of Eternity among others. As Rudess said, you have a really interesting personality and you serve as one of the longest Dream Theater members with John Petrucci. May much blessings be poured out into your life.

Jordan Rudess, the wizard! I love that wizard hat in "Live at Luna Park." You are one talented keyboardist. Your playing is so versatile and I believe you are a prodigy. You have the technicality, yet you have the melody also to mix together. You are a very funny person and extremely chill man. Thank you for all your contributions to Dream Theater and your faithfulness.

Mike Mangini, I know it was really hard waiting for the results of the audition, but you are now permanent drummer for Dream Theater! Drums sure have changed since you arrived at the band. I love your playing and watching the interviews and documentaries, I can tell you are one awesome dude. I saw you and all the band during your concert at the Schnitzer Hall and you guys were awesome. You have the passion and the drive to keep the band moving forward!

Thank you Dream Theater for entering into my life. Best of luck and wishes to you and I hope you live a peaceful life until the end. Thank you.
