I said it in the other thread, but it deserves to be said again. Thanks to everyone involved for such an awesome gift to the fans. :tup Very much appreciated! Together with LALP, this completes the perfect document of the tour.

I've had a quick listen to it, and it sounds really good! The keyboard and bass mix was much more generous than LALP, and the guitars weren't too loud either. And JLB sounds phnomenal (Another Day! SO POWAH! FUCK!).

For all of those feeling iffy about the whole torrent thing, I have never used torrents before, and I got going immediately with no research whatsoever.  Simply download and install the free version of the torrent software Wey linked to, then down load the DT torrent Wey linked to, then double click on the dt torrent , click on one more button, and the software starts downloading it right away.  It really is that simple.

First impression: the snare & the toms sound way better and thicker (the kick is still weak) and the keys are a lot more prominent than on LALP. The mix is much more pleasant to the ear. James is amazing. Thank you, DT.

I have to add that this is the first time MM's cymbals are mixed properly. For me, that makes a huge difference. This mix blows the ones of DT12, ADTOE and LALP out of the water.

Oh my god, James is so perfect in Endless Sacrifice.

He sings everything the way I actually wanted him to in the studio. Best example is "You long for love's em-bra-a-ace".

Except for when he belches instead of singing burn @3:15, I'm sure you didn't want it to be like that in the studio. Otherwise, it took my completely by surprise how great he was in the choruses. Budokan, eat your heart out.

I've downloaded it and I'm going to let it seed as much as I can. I can only really do 250kb/s upload rate but every little help and I won't be around my computer as much for the next week so I can just leave it on to seed.

I think I even figured out this torrent stuff.

Same here.  I never made the jump to torrents, preferring usenet (very old-school, but basically impossible to slip malware into), but this prompted me to seek out a reliable client and install it.  I actually missed that Wey had given us a link to one.  But whatever.  I figure BitTorrent is the daddy, so I went with it.  Download is 87% done as of now!

It is, even though I would recommend the Athens version, which is further improved in the middle section.

Lossless compression encoding protocol. Just a way to store a sound stream without axing out some frequencies the ear might still hear.

Just use VLC to play them, VLC never fails. But I would recommend Foobar2000, the best music player there is!

Wow this thing sounds awesome. Really happy with it and I'm so happy to have such great live versions of these songs, the band is really rocking. The keyboard is at the perfect volume. Everything is except maybe the bass drum, which should be a bit louder, but I can still hear it just fine. You know it's good when that's the only problem I could possibly think of. Really great CD.

I love how NOTHING is fixed up, it sounds amazing this way.

Fully agreed. The bass drum bothers me as well and apparently they intentionally mixed it so low, since it was noticeably louder on the High Voltage video of Peruvian Skies (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HdBeeph0aFM), which is the same version we have on this this release. MP's kick was always very loud, maybe JP had enough of it. Other than that, the snare and cymbal sound/mix is so far MM's best with DT and the toms sound almost as beefy as they did with MP. The keys and James sound heavenly, and I probably prefer this version of ES even to the studio version.

Is it just me or do they play the ending of TCOT slower than on the original? Wouldn't that be really hard for Mangini if he has the click track running?

I thought a few of the songs sounded a little slow (same with LALP), but my theory was just that studio tempo doesn't work for a lot of songs live. Peruvian Skies sounded really plodding to me too once it hit the heavier sections.

So what is the best program to convert flac to mp3?  I've looked around and on google there are a ton of results but I'm paranoid as hell about getting a virus or something.  I would really prefer a personal recommendation from a program someone has experience with.
Title: Re: HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM DREAM THEATER (6:00 On A Christmas Morning!)
Post by: TheGreatPretender on December 25, 2013, 09:54:57 PM
The safest way, albeit a little slow, would probably be to use audio editing software like Audacity, as long as you install the MP3 plugin for it, you can open the flac files and convert them to MP3.

For something faster, I use this program. It's a part of ad-supported freeware suite of all sorts of converters:
https://www.dvdvideosoft.com/products/dvd/Free-YouTube-to-MP3-Converter.htm
You can just drag and drop all the flac files, choose your output quality and it'll convert everything in one go, whereas with Audacity, you'd have to import each sound file separately, export each one separately. Audacity is mainly for editing, so it's not the most efficient as a simple converter.

If you go with the dvdvideosoft converter, just make sure that when you install it, to unclick all the other stuff it's going to prompt you to install. It usually asks you if you'd like to install some toolbars on your browser, change your default search engine, etc. You probably don't want any of that crap. Otherwise, the program itself is solid and I haven't had any issues with it.

One thing I paid attention to is that James skipped the "humming"/wordless vocals at the beginning of both AD and TLF. Maybe he finds those too early 90s :lol

Just amazing how good this is. From TGD an onwards, this is definately my favorite live release after Score. Compared to LALP, this is 10 times more enjoyable thanks to the audible keyboards, bass and fatter drums. The piano during the TCOT chorus is mindblowingly awesome. I haven't even finished listening to LALP due to the mix not being to my taste, that's how much it disappointed me. Sure, the vocals on this release sound a bit oddly mixed, but James' singing is incredible! Really amazing to hear!

Once again, thanks to everyone involved for making this happen!

Actually, he's been singing it that way for several years, as I drew MP's attention to that line as being dated, and not long after that, the change in the lyric happened. Can't remember when it happened, but I know it's been sung that way at least since 2006.

I think that the people who think this is better than LALP think so because the mix is better and the setlist has songs that are more obscure in terms in their live releases so it ends up being a really awesome collection of live songs.

However, LALP is a way better concert because of everything that went into it, all the ADTOE songs, the soft songs with the strings, and the Blu-Ray is spectacular.

I think both have their ups and downs. The proper volume of keyboards is definitely awesome on the Holiday tracks, but since they are from different shows, the sound quality and peformances aren't very consistent. While JLB might be amazing on some of the songs, on others, he's not in top form. (Whereas in Luna Park, he was at his best all throughout). And a few of the songs just have too much reverb or this or that in them. Plus Luna Park does have the video footage to accompany it.

So yeah, both have their ups and downs. Luna Park, for what it is, was definitely worth the money. This Holiday collection is easy to appreciate because it was free and gave us new songs.

He's pitchy over most of the concert.  The worst ones I can think of is Bridges, Night, Root and Pull.

In Root, they actually did an overdub in one place that made it worse. "Driven blindly by our sins mislead so easily, Entirely ready to leave it behind, begging to break free." Originally, it was not only spot on, but better than the album and then they overdubbed it and used a take where he hit it flat and had less vibrato.

Just saying. Sorry if that's too far, you can delete this if you don't like me saying this.

I don't know what pitchy means. Pull Me Under was an okay performance, I'll admit, nothing incredible about it. But Root in particular I thought was an excellent performance, albeit a little too theatrical. Bridges and Night were stellar as well, so I'm not sure what you mean.

There were much more noticeable flaws in some of the songs on this Holiday release. The chorus on UAGM, I don't know what he's doing. I mean, the high note he sings is significantly higher than it's supposed to be, which is impressive, I guess, but it's completely out of tune with the melody, and he didn't nail the F# on LTL. Which is unfortunate, because I've seen some Youtube footage where he pulled off the F# with a vengeance, and even at the concert I went to, he sung UAGM properly. So it's not like he couldn't.

Pitchy means his notes weren't in key or on pitch a lot of the times.  A lot of his passing notes in his vox were off.  His big notes and long notes were good but the notes getting to those a lot of the time were either sharp or flat.

In regards to UAGM, he's pretty much been singing it that way most of the time live, doesn't he?

In Root, they actually did an overdub in one place that made it worse. "Driven blindly by our sins mislead so easily, Entirely ready to leave it behind, begging to break free." Originally, it was not only spot on, but better than the album and then they overdubbed it and used a take where he hit it flat and had less vibrato.

Just saying. Sorry if that's too far, you can delete this if you don't like me saying this.

Well, you can tell it was overdubbed anyway just from the mouth movements.

Would it be too trivial to make a thread about the one word "TIME" in UAGM?

Maybe a poll about which you like better?

I think he's been screaming "time" ever since this little incident https://youtu.be/1Yogybuxyc4?t=7m40s

Before that show he's always done it regular, but on the first couple shows of ADTOE warm up tour, it was pretty weak.

I haven't noticed, so I wouldn't say it's too significant, unless your ear is very sensitive to that sort of thing, I guess. Either way, I wouldn't say that his performances on the Holiday CD were so much better than his LALP. Some songs were great, but others were just okay on both releases. I certainly wouldn't go as far as to say that the Holiday release is so much better than LALP.

In regards to UAGM, he's pretty much been singing it that way most of the time live, doesn't he?

I haven't watched too many bootleg videos from the last tour, but the couple I have seen, along with the show I went to, he just sang it normally, the way he did on Score, pretty much.

I'm in the group that wasn't very blown away with his vocals on LALP, even though my friend insists its the best he has ever sounded. On this release, which I love very, very much, he still doesn't sound too great. Another Day particularly has what sounds like Chaos in Motion style tuning all over it (at least to me).

Another Day was absolutely tuned and I mentioned that earlier too. You can hear it clearly if you're good enough at listening for it. In the real performance he hit some notes great and some notes flat. Here they're all in tune, but unnatural and CiMmy sounding much of the time.

I'm glad NONE of the other tracks were touched by auto tune. I mean, I guess I can't know that for sure, but given that in everything else theres a few flat notes and cracks here and there, everything matches previous bootlegs I've heard, and it all passes my quite good built in auto-tune detecter, I'd say it's safe to say only AD was touched.

Also, I forgot to add, this release has great stereo separation. That was another thing I like about it.  :tup

Your friend might need a little refreshment. Put on Live at the Marquee, or Live In Tokyo DVD for him to remind him what JLB USED to sound like.

But of course, it would be incredibly unreasonable for us to expect him to sound like that after 25 years and a vocal cord injury. But would I say he sounds better than he did on the previous couple of live DVDs that he's done in the 2000s? Yeah, I'd say so. I mean, he sounded very solid in Score, but he also played it very safe for that entire show, never doing any improvised screams or varying the parts too much. On the recent releases, there's a lot more showmanship from him. He's being a better "front man" not just a better singer.

How many times did he do Another Day during this previous tour? Was it a regular part of the set at some point? I only remember one Youtube video I watched where he did Another Day during the encore, as an Images and Words anniversary celebration. And it sounded pretty bad. But of course, I think making him do a song like Another Day for the encore is kind of ridiculous. It's a tough song as it is, and at the end of the night when he's all worn out, it would be very tough.
But my point is, if that's the performance on the Holiday release, then I'm not surprised at all that they had to autotune it. And I actually don't mind how it sounds at all.

My point exactly. You'll notice, especially for some of the songs that were pulled out for the 2012 Europe leg in January, that the first few shows of a song is always the toughest for James. Another Day was played exactly once, and that was the first since 2007, and his voice is different since then. If they kept it in the set a while, he probably would have been AMAZING on it considering he nailed about half of the tough notes and flubbed half in just the first performance.

I really like the performance of The Great Debate. I really think MM captured the energy of MP and it's a nice nod to the man who wrote those parts.

MM did an excellent job on TGD! All of the intro hats and toms were spot on. I think he had the poly-rhythm hihats during the keyboard solo a bit different, but other than that, absolutely perfect throughout.

My only disappointment with the drumming was Another Day. I don't know how many times they performed that, or how much practice MM got for it, but he didn't do the hi-hat rhythms, and he didn't do the tom pattern during the bridge section, and some of the fills weren't right. But given that was his first tour with the band playing any of these songs, I don't expect him to play everything exactly.

Considering how JLB sounded BEFORE the autotune, my guess is that they didn't practice it very much at all. If I had to guess, it was a very last minute decision.

Just a note for those who may not be familiar with proper etiquette, once you finish your download, as a courtesy to others who are downloading later, you should keep your downloader open for a couple of days and continue seeding until you have uploaded at least the same amount of data you have downloaded.  With this prearranged to have a certain number of seeders, it may not be an issue, but the more people who are seeding, the faster and more accessible the download will be for others.

Okay, I actually have some idea.  It sounds like torrenting (if that's what you call it) is actually peer-to-peer, not site-to-peer?  I thought it was site-to-peer.  Download the file, close the connection.  What am I missing?  What is seeding?

If you leave utorrent open, you're seeding. It just means it's much easier for other people to get the files because there are more of them to go around.

I think.

Yes, it is peer-to-peer.

Seeding is you sending the data to other people once you have finished the download. The torrent client (doesn't matter what it is) will say "seeding" somewhere on the torrent when this is happening.

Also, you should also see a "ratio" somewhere. This is the ratio between what you've downloaded and what you've uploaded. Good etiquette is getting your ratio to at least 1 (meaning you've uploaded the same amount of data as you've downloaded), as this helps to sustain the health of the torrent (healthy meaning it's easy/fast for people to download).

Unless your laptop is configured to go into sleep mode when it is closed, yes it will still work. Closing it just turns the screen off.

If the laptop is asleep, programs aren't running, so you won't seed while the laptop is in sleep.

Your MP3 player likely doesn't suppot FLAC files. Scroll back through the thread a bit and you will find advice on how to convert the files to MP3.

Go back and read through the whole thread - there's a lot of posts explaining how to use/play/convert FLAC files, and more on how to burn them on to CD-R's if you desire to do so. Lots of helpful posts above yours have discussed this and many other topics related to downloading torrents, using FLAC, seeding/leeching, etc. etc.

Gonna bump this for people's convenience.

This is for everyone who wants to convert their FLAC files to MP3:

Thanks TGP for bumping that info! :tup

I would also HIGHLY suggest using Trader's Little Helper. The best conversion program I've ever had in over 10 years of audio trading and downloading.

It easily converts FLACs into WAVs, which can then be converted into MP3s of any bitrate you'd want (although I always set mine to CBR 320 kbps for best possible quality).

Yeah, I'm disappointed he didn't do the classic hi-hat pattern during the second "You won't find it here..." That was the only performance of AD during the whole tour and I think both he and James could've nailed the song if it had been performed more than once (and earlier on in the set).

I actually had no problem with JLB's performance on the song. He did great on that bridge section. My only issue was the drumming, which I figured must have been due to lack of playing it, given that he breezes through more complex songs like TGD.
I'm still really glad to have a good quality recording of it though. I hope that every future tour can be as definitively documented in terms of representing every DT song they played.  :tup

I don't think James' performance was bad, but you can hear he was exhausted, which is natural considering the placement of the song in the setlist. I watched a fan-filmed video of that performance and as others pointed out, his voice has been touched up a little bit.

I think it was kind of a last minute desicion to play Another Day, and MM only knew the time signatures, he didn't learn the exact drum parts, otherwise i'm sure he would play them as they are.

Also, i think he changed the type of drum heads he used on the bass drums sometime during the tour, and it is audible on some songs, like Endless Sacrifice and the Drum Solo, the sound is more clear and punchy.

I'm a sad panda...  I can't listen to the FLAC files, so I tried to download one of the programs someone mentioned here.  Now my computer is totally infected from the download.  I had my up to date anti-virus on, but it didn't stop it.  I'll try a system restore tonight when I get home, but I'm not holding my breath.  SO!!!  Merry Christmas to me!!!    :lol   Maybe at some point I'll even get to hear this music.

I actually downloaded both of these, and the malware came from them  (they're the same website.)  Just a word of warning to others.....

That was the exact suite of tools I used and had no problem whatsoever. During the install I deselected the option to install browser bars and other things (I don't remember what other helpful adware it wanted me to use). I found the audio CD tool especially helpful because it burned CD's directly from the FLAC files complete with song titles, disc titles, etc.

Great christmas present, I'm only at ytsejam and it sounds great, although the keyboard is a bit too loud.

Since I deleted Traders Little Helper, I used Winamp to convert the FLACs to WAV. Then uploaded to itunes, converted to Apple Lossless and put it onto my ipod.

I have VLC media player and had completely forgotten that it was set to play .flac files.  For some reason, I thought WinAmp could play them, but VLC popped up and started playing.

Also, VLC has options for converting to .mp3 or various other formats.  It's convoluted as hell to do, though, so I won't even try to summarize the process here.  I Googled up some instructions on the net, and suggest you do the same.  It can be done.  Anything it can play, it can output to .mp3.

Loved the whole thing. Would gladly seed it but Verizon utterly DESTROYS my upload speeds, no matter what I do. We're talking less than 1KB a second  :lol

Foobar 2000 also plays FLAC, and is my go-to player for everything.

I'm new to torrents and have no idea what this means.

Okay, I actually have some idea.  It sounds like torrenting (if that's what you call it) is actually peer-to-peer, not site-to-peer?  I thought it was site-to-peer.  Download the file, close the connection.  What am I missing?  What is seeding?
Yes, it is peer-to-peer.

Seeding is you sending the data to other people once you have finished the download. The torrent client (doesn't matter what it is) will say "seeding" somewhere on the torrent when this is happening.

Also, you should also see a "ratio" somewhere. This is the ratio between what you've downloaded and what you've uploaded. Good etiquette is getting your ratio to at least 1 (meaning you've uploaded the same amount of data as you've downloaded), as this helps to sustain the health of the torrent (healthy meaning it's easy/fast for people to download).

I'm on cable broadband, so my download speed is great but upload is total crap (coax is optimized for one-way).  But my firewall won't let anyone in anyway.  Back in the Napster/Kazaa/WinMX days, I tried to open it up, but I'd get angry messages from other users telling me how much I suck because I'm not sharing.  I'd see uploads going out, but the speed totally blew and it wasn't my fault.  Maybe people thought I was throttling.

Okay, I re-opened BitTorrent and, if I'm reading this correctly, 3 people are currently connected to me and I'm uploading at about 130 Kb/s.  When I was installing it, I remember there was an option to make Windows firewall let it slide, and I checked that, since I knew I wouldn't be able to figure it out later.

And now no one's connected and I'm not uploading.  Enough play-by-play.  I guess I just suck.  I'll leave my client open for a while and try to give back, but maybe I'm destined to be a leech on society.

In other news, I've listened to it all twice now, and I think it sounds great.

The keyboard at the beginning is too loud for my taste, but other than that the mix sounds perfect. Also, listening to this live track didn't give me the impression I get everytime I hear the studio version, that is something about the instrumental section dragging for too long. Could be just me, though.

Also, the more seeders there are the faster the download will be for everyone else.  Considering that this release is almost a GB, download speed is a legitimate issue.  Do the right thing!

Personally I'd like to hear In The Presence of Enemies on some live setlist. :D

Also, I compliment JLB on Another Day. He sounds awesome there.

FINALLY!!!!  Got all the malware/adware off (I think) and was able to convert using the program Kowtow Boy recommended, thanks Bro!  Album is really good.  After the first run, standouts for me are TGD, TLF, ES.  My only gripe is JLB seems so lost in  the mix , low volume and very echoic? (dont know if that's an actual word...LOL), but his singing is VERY good.  The other 4 sound absolutely stellar!

**EDIT - I burned discs and the vocals sound better in my truck by far.  Don't know what the deal is with my puter sound.  All other songs sound great, just the xmas songs that have that exagerated echo.  That's cool... most of the music I listen too is on the road anyways :)  What an awesome and thoughtful gift from the band, Wey, and whoever else was involved!!  Thank you!!.  :tup

My only gripe is that it's a soundboard so every thing feels a little flat but can hardly complain with a free double album :)

Are we allowed to share links to download the individual tracks ?

if so : https://www.dropbox.com/sh/ezke6e42vmbvfw4/ySGGlc5snA

I've uploaded them all to my DropBox so people can download the converted aiff files - which will play on iPods and iTunes yet are still massive files.

Please delete if not ok :)

Endless Sacrifice and TGP are definitely 10/10. I don't think any of their other live renditions are nearly as good.

TIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIME and the Z# in LTL were pretty amusing too.

My server crashed and I wasn't aware of it for an hour until I came back in the office and noticed the USB light I use to show the machine is on was off.

Since it's a private torrent and not using DHT, you couldn't direct connect to the machine in order to get the peerage :)

May have been addressed already, but I LOVE that they used the Demo versions keyboard in Fatal Tragedy (after the chorus - 4:30 is one example on holiday album)!  Not sure if they've played it that way live before, but always thought that version was killer and wondered why they cut it.  Now if we can just get them to do the vocals at the beginning of it too...

It's also like that on LSFNY, so I believe they've always played it that way live. The keyboards are a little more upfront on this mix though.

Yep. I believe it was Kevin Shirley's suggestion to take it out, as that was one of the tracks he remixed.

I think the overall mixes sound better on the retail CD compared to the alt mixes, but the call to remove those two parts from FT was not the greatest decision.

This is great! Thanks all involved!

This is the first time I've listened to DT live with Mangini. It's amazing how different they sound with MM. In Fatal Tragedy for example, in comparison to LSFNY, it's much less "jammy" and more mechanical. MM is just right on point and his hits are so consistent. The rest of the band mirrors that like they're playing in studio as opposed to a live setting. They're playing is so polished.

I love this mix. It sounds very dynamic (in comparison to DT12 anyway). JMX is up in the mix which is always nice. It's nice hearing JR up there. He always shines live.

In LTL there's this buzzing noise during the beginning of the instrumental, I can notice it and it bugs. Other than, songs are great.

I finally got the opportunity to listen properly to the whole album and am blown away.  I think almost every song is the best performance I have heard.  One exception would be To Live Forever in which James's voice sounds a little tired.  This is probably the result of having one show to to record that performance.  Other than that, any time on this album where James voice is less than perfect, it actually works as an advantage.  In LTL, when he hits the legendary F#, he can't sustain the note as long as he used to but the emotion that pours out of him as he strains makes it sound fucking badass.  Likewise, in UaGM I don't mind that the high note is screamed as opposed to sung although I think he holds it out a little long.  I'm just glad I have a good live version to listen to without that stupid circus melody they added on Score.

CoT is amazing and while I absolutely hate the lyrics, I realized that I hated the ridiculous background vocals more than I imagined.  Without that, the lyrics don't stand out as much.

Overall, its good to hear James switching things up and really commanding the role of the frontman.

Based on my one listening time, this rocks! Of course the sound quality isn't up to the standards of the official live releases, but the mix and the songs compensate for that. It's great to hear Jordan so much better than on Live at Luna Park. Also, if you ask me, James' current vocal style fits the Train of Thought songs really well. I wouldn't mind hearing something from that album on the upcoming tour also.

Thanks for the file conversion...just what I needed.

I did not want to buy the LALP DVD as I was only interested in CD's and if I remember correctly you can't just get CD's...so
this will have to suffice. It would have been nice though to be able to add the LALP CD to my collection.

Thanks again Rai and DT.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!......thats the best things about this release (thanks to the DT guys for doing it) Its SOOOO nice to be able to hear ALL the instruments for once after the horribly muddied mixing mess of the DT12 and LALP releases!!. Highlights have to be TCoT, ES, LTL, and PS...

Speechless at how amazing and generous this is, thanks so much to everyone involved! Wey I owe you a bottle of smoke juice of your choice for the next time we meet at a concert!
There's a whole different bunch of reasons on why this is an amazing gift, first of all I HAVE A PRO RECORDING OFFICAL RELEASE OF LIVE DT PERFORMANCES THAT I ATTENDED!! That's Another Day, Ytse Jam and Endless Sacrifice. Second Dramatic Tour is my favorite DT tour and not just for the bias of having attended 4 shows on both US legs, this along with Luna Park cds will make the Dramatic Tour experience forever memorable, I was just thinking the other day on how cool it would have been if they played Fatal Tragedy, Ytse Jam, Tuscany and Glass Moon on the second leg so that it would have ended up on Luna Park!
This release seals the deal on Dramatic Turns album, tour and era all together as an almost impossible-to-top DT experience and memory, making this next tour a huge challenge for the boys IMO.. BRING IT ON DT!

Endless Sacrifice. This performance. Absolutely. Amazing.

Really, I almost got that feeling from Live @ Bubokan concert and this was a better performance of ES than there! James' voice is so strong here that I'm going RAAAWWWKKK!!  :xbones

And I almost forget Mangini is playing drums. I love his playing here, he didn't follow Portnoy's thing from hit to hit but he did his own thing, his own fills somewhere. This is a thing MM should do more often.

Agreed, I think this is the best version of Endless Sacrifice and I'd prefer James' singing even to the studio version if it weren't for those low notes that sound like belching. He slays the choruses. Same with As I Am. Man, if he had sung like this @ Budokan, it would be the best concert DVD ever released. It's still the nicest looking, but I can't listen to it for more than an hour because the singing wears me out. Luna Park was impressive with the sliding cameras, but aesthetically it looks worse than anything J.J. Abrams ever put out.

I don't mind that at all, since I simply can't stand how Luna Park sounds. I already listened to the Holiday release more times. At this point, I'll only pop in the Blu-ray to revisit 6:00, the ending of TDEN and the drum solo.

If anything, I'd consider it a good sign that they're considering starting to do some releases in future. This one may have been a test run of the whole process to see how it goes, and I think it's a good sign that they've gone to the trouble to do it, and for free.

After hearing these songs many times now I think a tremendous amount of credit needs to be given to MM for finding what I think
is a perfect balance in keeping true to the original song structure and adding a personal touch here and there. There are so many
sections and particular fills that I would really miss as a long time fan (and as a drummer) and he pretty much nails every one of them.
I don't think he could have found a better balance. HUGE props and respect from me.

After listening to this multiple times, it definately is their second best sounding live release IMO, only beaten by Score. If LALP had sounded like the mix on ES, that would have been absolute gold! I love the clearly pronounced keyboards throughout all the songs. There i so much stuff Jordan does that sounds absolutely fantastic, with my favorites being the repeated melody around the 8-minute mark in TGD (especially when he answers JLBs phrases), and the piano part during the chorus of TCOT which I believe is not on the studio recording (or inaudible to my ears).

The best things in life are free!  This is how a DT live album should sound.  JR at the same level as JP.  All these years he's been hard to hear.

How does JR do those patterns at the start and end of Great Debate?  I've been looking to do that.

Spot on there, these "unofficial" lives recordings destroy the filth of LALP. How on earth that was allowed to be released as it was, is beyond me. Jordan was only really audible during his solo's on LALP (and DT 12 unfortunately), but its no real surprise that the guitars have to rule the roost these days now that JP is solely in charge of that side of things. Hope someone "official" is reading the comments in here (and elsewhere) about just how nice it is to be able to hear JR again in the mix!

I've finally had the chance to listen to this package, and I dare say that this has one of the best versions of LTL out there--certainly the best official version (not that there is much competition, given that the only other complete version is found on the Live Scenes from New York,  and it was a decidedly mediocre rendition).  This version is truly awesome, made so largely by MM's interesting drumwork.  The only flaw is that the F sharp shout from JLB could have been a bit better.  Otherwise, this is a nearly perfect live song, only outmatched by the slightly extended versions they did on the Octavarium tour.

I still listen to it regularly and it runs circles around LALP in the sonic department. The loud keys and the drum sound are a bliss and it features the definite live version of Peruvian Skies.

I just believe the tracklist is really interesting. This version of To Live Forever might be my favorite one; if not, then the second after the one from Live in Tokyo.  Then there's Learning to Live, Through My Words/Fatal Tragedy, Another Day and The Count of Tuscany (I'm a huge fan of the second disc as you can see). It's just phenomenal   :tup

I just opened this thread for the first time.  Seeing The Count Of Tuscany made this an instant download.  It's one of my favourite DT Tracks.

First page.
I'm seeding, but I don't have the enclosed art, checksums, or info, as the ones on DIME do not match up for some reason. Anyone want to seed those for the thirty seconds for which I need to download?

I've been trying to download this forever, but nobody is ever seeding it. Can someone please seed?

How do I seed it? I need the .torrent file right? I think I got rid of that.  :-\

Just grab it on the first page and direct your client to the folder in which you originally downloaded the stuff

No but really, I think I get what that means, but that gives me the .torrent file, right? Then what do I do?

Thank you guys for so much for trying to figure out how to seed this. I've been longing to hear this record since Christmas. I was visiting my folks at the time and was without my computer, so I never had a chance to download. Have never seen people seed it since.

Use this link to download the torrent since there are no seeders on here. https://kickass.to/dream-theater-happy-holidays-2013-2cd-320kbps-cbr-mp3-vx-p2pdl-t8484207.html

MPEG Layer 3 is bad.
Anyone else having trouble getting to the tracker?
Atliator, are you trying to download or seed?

Seeding is uploading. Did you already download the music?

Yes I did the day it was available. Then that day I let it seed for a while, but now I just don't know how to open it and seed it more. I understand what seeding is, but I just can't figure out how to make the software do it  :blush.

I can't get it to start, it stays on this. I've been downloading multiple things this past week and it's stayed like this on all of them once they were done downloading.

(https://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a619/styxkyd/ScreenShot2014-05-06at40258PM_zps138ff953.png) (https://s1286.photobucket.com/user/styxkyd/media/ScreenShot2014-05-06at40258PM_zps138ff953.png.html)

Anyone know how to help?  :)

I do believe that means that it's seeding. If someone tries to download it they'll be connected to you.

Oh that's pretty funny if it's been doing it right the whole time :lol

So, that means if I download something, and the general rule is you upload as much as you downloaded.. I have to wait for someone to be there downloading before anything will actually be uploaded?

So let's say I leave some file in there for a week and no one takes it so I can't upload it.. If I take it out, is it true that bit torrent is going to lower my downloading speed? Last question, promise  :P

I don't think so.  I think it depends.  Ive downloaded plenty of torrents and haven't uploaded more than 1% of those downloads.  Nothing has slowed me down.  However, on sites like dimeadozen, you need to upload to be able to download which is fine because those are shared files for everyone where as some of the other stuff I have downloaded... well lets just leave it like that.

That's not quite how it works.
uTorrent or whatever you use is like Firefox. Trackers control the distribution of bandwidth and metadata of the torrent and whatnot. Most private trackers (where you have to sign up and whatnot for "premium" content) like DIME have rules on maintaining ratios, or making sure you seed what you download. This is a public tracker and really can't do anything to regulate your use. It's just common courtesy to have a U/D ratio of at least 1.

That's rude. If it wasn't for the uploaders on those torrents you wouldn't be able to download it. Ever been frustrated with a slow torrent? It's because people like you don't seed. Like even if it's copyrighted material, at least have some honor among thieves.

I guess I am rude and that's fine with me (considering the context).  At least I am honest! Also, for stuff like this, I let my computer stay on the whole weekend to seed when it was released. Id also have no problem seeding this again, but I am traveling so I wont be home to do that for awhile.

The green arrow that points up (yes I got it to be green) keeps turning red.. Does that mean "I'm timing out on both trackers" ?

I'm trying to seed too, but the trackers are not working. I don't really have enough experience with torrents to be able to know exactly what's wrong, so if someone does know this, please tell us.
EDIT: Ok guys, I sort of found out what the problem was. Torrents need those trackers to be able to connect to each other; I think it's a bit like when large multiplayer games have servers. I don't know which torrent client you guys are using, and I don't know if I can link to this, but if you google 'torrent trackers' you should find a website with a list of all torrent trackers in 2013. Now, in your torrent client, you have to add all these trackers to your tracker list for the torrent. I've done that and there are multiple trackers that are working, so if you guys can add the trackers I should be able to seed for you :)

This magnet link should do it:
Code: [Select]
magnet:?xt=urn:btih:ca2b4a14bff2780143e5e611b15f580381df2db9&dn=Dream%20Theater%20-%20Happy%20Holidays%202013&tr=udp%3a%2f%2ftracker.opentrackr.org%3a1337
It's the same torrent as always, just with all the broken trackers removed, and one tracker that actually does work put in.
If you're a little nervous about clicking a magnet link from some stranger online, you can just paste the tracker into the original torrent:
Code: [Select]
udp://tracker.opentrackr.org:1337
