An idea I had from some silliness in the funny thread. Here's the idea, I have posted a simple map of the world. Each DTFer will add to it a small black dot representing where they live, and re-post it. Hopefully, by the end we can have some kind of cool representation of where all of us hail from. Also type out your home town for those of us who suck at geography.
My original idea for this was taken by Cozmo and made awesome, as Cozmo tends to do with most ideas, songs, and pretty much everything else, so for the way it's done, read the following post.....

Okay, apparently GM DOES allow open collaboration on maps. I set one up here:

I had BVD go in to post his location, to ensure that it worked properly. It appears to have worked fine, so everyone should be able to go in and add their location. To add yours, click edit, zoom to your location, then click on the button on the map that looks like a purple balloon. Place the placemark, put your name in the title and the location in the notes area. Also, in the little edit window, it shows the purple balloon in the upper right hand corner. If you click on that, you can choose from a bunch of different placemark icons. Then click done.
If this starts to get messed up or things aren't working right, I can add placemarks for people if they send me their data or whatever.

Yours is there, though it has your address as the title as opposed to your username. I edited it to show your username in the title, but your address is still in the info field, if you want to remove it.

Also, a note, whenever you enter your pinpoint and are done with it, you can "grab" it on the list to the left, and drag it up to its proper place, alphabetically.

Topic sticked by request. I also deleted all the posts before Coz setting up the new "official" map because it would be confusing for people just entering the thread who might not read all the way down to the part with the new map.

If you have a gmail account, yeah, that probably helps.
I don't use gmail and I had no problem, although I am signed in with a regular google account, so that must be it. But it doesn't require a gmail account.

That was me. I figured that if in future the world is under attack from the Goa'uld or the Ori, and I need to tell DTF to evacuate to the alpha site, that this saves me needing to give everyone directions. You're welcome.

Also, apparently BVD relocated to a riverbank in the middle of nowhere. This can't be right. Too much sunlight.

Looks like it did move a bit. I moved it back to where I originally put it (which isn't actually all that close to where I live, but I just went right over the "Sydney" text).
It's also apparent it's very easy to drag a marker, so it could easily have been changed accidentally while someone was only intending to click it. Is there a way to sort of lock them?

You can only move them if you're still in edit mode. So I would probably suggest that people not enter edit mode unless they're adding their own ppinpoint, and when they're done, click "save" and then "done". Then if you browse the icons, you shouldn't be able to move them.

I wasn't in edit mode. I can't edit the the details, but it let me drag the marker around.

Hmph. I guess you're right. For some reason, I couldn't do that yesterday. I don't think there's any way to lock them, without removing the open collaboration.

Ahh, okay, cool. Everytime we come through on the way to my parents', I rage at the way people pronounce it "buh-CANNON" as opposed to "byoo-CANNON", the way it looks like it should be pronounced, but I also get irritated over "BYOO-nuh VISS-tuh" as well. :lol

I also find it ironic that a person with the handle "changing_seasons" lives in a place where the seasons are winter and cold-as-fuck winter.

Certainly. Interestingly, I was in Staten Island a few months ago. We went to see Sabbath in Holmdel on Sunday and hung out in Staten Island on Saturday (August 3-4). We took the Staten Island Ferry over and back, we went to Joe & Pat's and Nunzio's, went to the Ocean Breeze Fishing Pier. Was a really very nice place. I figured with it technically neing part of NYC, that it would be insufferable to drive in, but it really wasn't bad at all.

Staten Island is more like a suburb in most parts, so it isn't as bad as say Brooklyn or Manhattan. Joe & Pat's has awesome pizza. I haven't been to Nunzio's in years. Next time you are out this way let me know. There are a few other good places to check out. We could meet up for a drink or six.

If you're a fan of Kinder Surprise Eggs, but live in the US and aren't impressed by Kinder Joy, here they are without the toys. Same consistency and thickness. I've found them at Fry's Food and Target. I think they're seasonal though because so far I've only seen Easter and Christmas themes versions. Kinder Surprise Eggs and Haribo Gummy Frogs were my favorites as a kid, so it's nice to still be able to find them here in the US, mostly.
