I have never watched Frisky Dingo, so no idea what that is.

But WATCH ARCHER NOW. Amazing show. The second season just got better and better. Dr Krieger is my hero (he's even made Rush references for all you prog people out there, although it meant nussink to me)

I checked out the first season of Archer on Netflix and it was the hardest I've laughed at anything in a long time, so I immediately bought the second season to watch on Amazon.  No regrets.

"Where'd you get a grenade?"
"HANGING ON THE LAMPSHADE!"

"Oh for the last time, its not hydrogen!  Its helium!"
"And what about that are you still not getting, exactly?"
"Well obviously the core concept, Lana!"

Archer is probably the funniest show on TV right now.

Season 2 had probably the single funniest scene of anything I've ever seen.

I've watched through frisky dingo probably 4 or 5 times now, and it still is awesome.

I loved the first season of Archer, but they lost me a couple episodes into season 2.  I watched a couple episodes from season 2 last night with some friends though, and it was still hilarious, so maybe I'll give it another shot.

By the way, has anyone seen sealab?  It's also by Adam Reed, so it might be worth checking out.

I found the first episode of season 2 to be terrible, but the rest were mostly better than season 1 imo.

And I have every season of Sealab on DVD. Didn't realize it was the same guy. :tup

Made by the same guy who did Sealab and Archer. It only ran for two seasons on adult swim, so you can watch every episode in a few hours. It's fucking brilliant, you'll love it.

I like Archer a lot but when it comes to non-fox anime; The Boondocks is the funniest and most consistently creative. Very under appreciated around here IMO.

:tup Season 2 is even better (aside from the first and second last episodes). The minor characters really get better during the season.

I kinda disagree there, I only watched 3 episodes of the 2nd season so far but Archer's first season was better. Infact I think the pilot episode is the best episode in the whole show so far.
But I gotta finish up the season before I could really say that.

No no no no, like, a big, sweaty fireman carries you out of a burning building, lays you on the sidewalk and you think, "yeah, okay, he's gonna give me mouth-to-mouth", but instead he just starts choking the shit out of you, and the last sensation that you feel before you die is he's squeezing your throat so hard that a big, wet, blob of drool drips off his teeth and just, flurp, falls right onto your popped-out eyeball.

I was sure I had read that somewhere, but I instead found this piece of interview:

Quote
AVC: At a recent Paley Center panel, Aisha Tyler said that the characters were drawn before the actors were cast.
AR: They were.
AVC: Some of the actors really look like the characters. Was that just a coincidence, or did you give the animators sort of an idea of who you were thinking of for the roles?
AR: No. It was all a coincidence. Those are all local models from Atlanta. We used real people and dressed them up in period clothes. Lana’s character model is a flight attendant here in town. Cyril is a guy we know who runs a restaurant. So we just grabbed people around here, and then it was just sort of a fluke that they ended up looking like, to some extent, their real-life counterparts. Aisha’s hands aren’t as big as we always make fun of Lana for having. The model for Archer is an electrician here in town and is exactly that handsome and also really nice. So there’s just no reason to like him.

I'm sorry for spreading misinformation.
Title: Re: The Friskey Dingo/Archer Thread
Post by: BlobVanDam on March 01, 2012, 02:45:00 AM
Whoa, now I want to see the people they actually modeled them after.

And that really is a crazy coincidence, because some of the characters look a lot like their voice actors, and I swear I'd also read that they were modeled after the voice actors (I think on wikipedia, which is always accurate).

My favorite moment might still be from Killing Utne, when Archer loses it about Woodhouse "thinking he's people" because he went to sit at the table for dinner. Woodhouse is the fucking man :lol

I just saw the blurb for next week's episode, and it sounds amazing.

SPOILER ALERT
Archer's dead fiancee reappears....... in Kreiger's lab.
Considering Kreiger is fast becoming one of my favourite TV characters of all time, this can't lose.

Title: Re: The Friskey Dingo/Archer Thread
Post by: Nick on March 03, 2012, 10:38:25 PM
I had said prior to the season that I thought Kreiger would take a dominant role and be awesome this season. For the first three episodes I could not have been more right.
Title: Re: The Friskey Dingo/Archer Thread
Post by: BlobVanDam on March 03, 2012, 10:48:04 PM
Kreiger's become a much more important character over time. He obviously wasn't supposed to be a big character from the start of the series (he didn't even talk in the first episode), but he's just hilarious every time he's in an episode, and he's had almost as much character development as the rest.
It's no coincidence that my favourite episodes are the ones with Kreiger, so I'm really excited for this next one. Hopefully it's a Kreiger-heavy episode, but if not, I'm sure his involvement will be great regardless.

Krieger. :lol I'm glad they still got him in the episode, since he wasn't on the space station. I love how angry and rapey he sounded in the van with the hologram. :lol

And I like that they continued Archer being enticed into cliche action movie scenarios. In this episode it was the robot suits, and in the past they had the fight on top of the train. Put that together with him continually using the fact he's a spy to pick up chicks, and it's almost like he only became a spy to live out movie fantasies. :lol

And the Neil Degrasse Tyson reference was fucking awesome.

Yep, great episode all around too, and things will get interesting now that Barry is back.

Also, nice little season 1 reference with the "FORT KICK ASS" boxes sitting in storage. A few other past references in this one too. I love stuff like that.

I have to say, sitting down with a glass of scotch to watch new Archer is just about my favorite part of the week.

Seems like I'm missed an episode somewhere, when did Malory get married?

They just appeared married in the first episode of this season. Never even heard of the dude before now. Unless I'm somehow missing episodes too, I'm pretty sure it just came out of nowhere.

Yeah it's something that happened in between seasons 3 and 4, and apparently will be covered in an episode later this season.

Nice, I didn't know that. At first it bugged me that they just threw in a random new character out of nowhere, but I've grown to like him, especially after his episode with Archer.

Honestly, my only complaint about the current season is that Ron is a super lame character and that episode was an equally lame attempt to make him not lame.

On the other hand, Rodney is a glorious new addition.

I kinda agree with that, but the lame-ness is part of why I like him. :lol

And who's Rodney? Is he the armoury dude? I like him.

Yes, as we learned:

Rodney: One RPG-7 launcher and two grenade as per the note from your mother.
Sterling Archer: Thank you... sorry, what was your name again?
Rodney: Rodney.
Sterling Archer: Thank you... asshole.

What the hell happened to Woodhouse's voice? :( It just sounds wrong now, and he was one of my favourite characters. I was actually hoping they were going to kill him off in this episode somehow to avoid making us suffer with what sounds like a different voice actor.

Seriously. His voice was the only thing distracting from what was otherwise another great episode.

Jazz hands!

Good episode aside from that, but considering the episode revolved around the Pope/Woodhouse, both voiced by the same guy, it was a big distraction to me.

But as usual, Krieger was great. :heart Best character ever.

100% it's the same voice actor? If so, maybe the throaty voice was too much of a strain on the old guy's voice? It doesn't sound right. It doesn't have that same sense of worthlessness and pity that the character should have.

During the first part of this 2 parter, I thought the Sealab thing was coincidental, but then I realized the captain's name was Murphy, the Sealab looked exactly like in Sealab 2021, and they had a soda machine with the name "GOZ" on it. Nice touch.

Dunno about the guy on the far left, but the second one from the left is Adam Reed, the creator/sole writer/genius behind the show (also the voice of Ray).

I've been dreading this season since hearing about the changes they were making a little while ago, and I'm still not entirely sold on the concept, but it was a great first episode to the season. I didn't like the idea of the preview montage at the end though. When it was mentioned someone was getting killed off, you just knew who it was going to be. :lol So fitting.

Jdging by the new intro, it looks like Krieger has been officially upgraded to a main character now. That can only be a good thing.

After the first episode, I felt it's been going downhill a bit, but tonight's episode was definitely the funniest of the season so far. Hilarious from start to finish.

My gripe is still that they don't know what they're doing with some of the side characters now that they've changed it up. The whole country singer thing for Cheryl is lame, and I feel only going to get worse now. Pam's cocaine thing wasn't funny to begin with and has already run its course. Ray hasn't done anything but cry all season.
I'm glad Woodhouse is making more appearances this season, and not sounding weird anymore, and everyone else is settling in nicely to their new roles.

So,

I just started watching Archer like a week ago. I have utterly fallen in love with the show and made it 1 season in, and then yesterday Netflix removed it  >:( :censored >:(

God dammit

Watching the Archer 1999 series now; not totally impressed with the space motif, but just heard a joke that reminded me why I love this show so much.

In this universe, Krieger is an android, and at one point, Mallory meets him in his quarters and says "you come here to dream of electric sheep?" and he says "Don't be a dick; androids can't dream!"

Of course, the movie Blade Runner was based on the novel "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" by none other than Philip K. Dick.

BUMP. Not sure if anybody else is still watching Archer, but I got back into the show this season. I had forgotten Jessica Walter passed away but they managed to end the season with a very nice little sendoff for Mallory.

I'll watch it; I always wait until the season has aired, then watch them in clumps of three or four episodes.

I'm several seasons behind but I did watch that clip because I was curious. It was a beautiful send off for both of those characters. Somebody was cutting onions over here.

Unfortunately I allowed this show to completely fall off my radar. I recall seeing she died but it never occurred to me how the show would handle it. I found the bit on YouTube and without the context of the episode, or knowledge of whatever has been going on in with Mallory, Archer, and the crew, I thought it was wonderful.
