Hey,
I'll be going to England in a couple of weeks and wanted to ask you guys that live there or have been there what good places I should visit, any good concert between april 17th and april 23rd, anything at all??
Thanks
-
I'm not English, but was there to visit last summer. One of my favorite neighborhoods in London was in and around the Brick Lane Markets. Kinda grungy and not for everyone, but I had fun. Lotsa cheap curry if you're into that.
-
Where in England are you going to be?
-
London, Oxford, Liverpool and maybe Manchester or Carslile.
-
Oxford University is actually a really nice place to visit. Then the Southbank is an absolute must.

I am planning on visiting those places. After watching a lot of Inspector Morse and Lewis I just needed to go there.

Really depends on what type of thing you interested in. Museums? Art Galleries? Music? Markets? What kind of thing are you interested in?

Maybe not markets but since it is the first time I'm going there I'm open for any other kind of suggestion.
Thanks all.

As a Welshman with a bit of experience of London, if you are interested in museums then there is some fantastic stuff there.
Also if you are interested in Shakespeare or just theatre in general, there is the Globe theatre, a replica of the original theatre that Shakespeare's plays were performed in. Saw King Lear there on a school trip once, it was a pretty interesting experience anyway though can't say I'm much of a fan of Shakespeare.

Man, I love the campus. MUST GET IN.
-
Cambridge seems like a cool place, but it was so fucking cold when I was there it was hard to enjoy.

Hey this is kind of off-topic for this thread, but I figured this would be a good place to pose this question. Can some English folks finally clear up for this Yank the differences between England, Wales, Great Britain, the United Kingdom and Scotland? It's something that I've never fully understood. Ireland is it's own island so that makes it easy to see where they fit in. My understanding is that England is it's own island, Scotland is in the north and Britain is in the south, and together they make up the United Kingdom. But where does Wales fit in? And I could be completely wrong about all of that, so can somebody who knows please clear this up for me once and for all? Thanks in advance!
-
The island Britain has three countries: Scotland, England and Wales. United Kingdom is Britain and Northern Ireland.
England isn't it's own island, it's one of the countries in Britain.
-
See, shows how much I know! Thanks so much for clarifying all of that! :tup And I would also like to take this time to apologize to my fellow Americans for making us look dumb by posing what was probably a silly question to our friends across the pond. :blush
-
Haha that's ok :)
And it isn't that silly, the whole UK/GB thing used to confuse me when I was younger.
I did lol a bit when you said England was the island and Scotland was in it though, that's the stereotypical way to piss of Scottish people :P
-
:( Yikes! Sorry don't want any Scots mad at me, I've seen Highlander and Braveheart plenty of times- you guys are rough with swords! ;)

Yeah, cause the rest of the world had such a high opinion of us before.

:lol No I know that's why I said that! After I posted my question I realized "shit, I just showed ignorance toward other people's countries and cultures, how all-american of me!" Now all I need is a flag and bald eagle decal on my rear view window!
-
Better to ask the question and learn than stay ignorant :)

I have a flag, and a sticker of the statue of liberty with the caption "Don't Fuck with my Girlfriend!!!"

Stonehenge is nice, bit far out from London. But I live like 3 miles from it, so it's all the same old same old nowadays.
South Bank is definitely a place to go :)
Greenwich is also nice, especially after the Thames Clipper ride :D
London is pretty much full of touristy stuff :D
-
Yeah taking a boat tour from Westminster to Greenwcih is cool, I'd recommend it if you've never been to London before.
