We all love Zeltar. He has been the forum baby for a few years now. The fact of the matter is, he is growing up (as much as we all hate to admit it). I here by suggest the notion that he passes the torch and appoints icysk8er as the new forum baby. He is 14, a smart ass, likes to challenge people, makes threads fail, and yet some how still seems like he belongs at DTF. I feel this kid should be able to handle this position just fine, as long as his shirt stays on. What do you say?

Aw, I never wanted to make you feel bad. I"m sorry. If you're sure you can't ask the computer lab teacher person for a pass to chorus, saying that you were online here looking for electronic kits because your teacher told you at the last second you need one, then there's nothing you can do.
That's a shame though, teachers are just people, and sometimes they even have the job because they pretty much LIKE kids...

Isn't torchpassing a thing that goes unmentioned or unplanned until it has actually happened?
Otherwise, it's just a forced dissemination of false glory intended to elevate one while further immortalizing another.

Nope. Actually, you have to complete the tasks that the top ten post whores will give you. And we'll go from #10 to #1. Once you've fulfilled these ten tasks, you'll go to your final task that Zeltar will assign.
As a reminder, you have to give us evidence of the completion of your tasks, otherwise you won't advance in your journey for the title of "forum baby".
Nobody said this was going to be easy. These shoes bring a lot of responsibility and respect.

I'm all for this epic idea of the top 10 posters assigning a task thing. Normally I'd agree with the people that say we should choose a more concrete member as the Forum Baby but I get the feeling icysk8r will be here for a while. He's been here for what, a month? And he's already rearing up on 1000 posts. Oh and who's gonna replace me on the list? We already got VFS replacing Pancaker but we got no one to replace me unless I missed something in my skim.
Before we proceed with this, I need to know something, icysk8r. I need to be sure that you're gonna be a staple member and post here for a long time. You've got to post early and often and make yourself known. Let your name ring through DTF through the dumb shit that you do. Be the little brother that everyone hates but loves at the same time. If you fail to complete any of these roles, not only will you have let the forum down, but you will have let me down. Once we get your answer, we'll get this shit started.

lol. when I was very little I used to want to have ice powers, and I was always normal temp. I never felt hot or cold, and I could play outside in the cold and not feel cold or get sick. so my nickname was icy. for about a year I skateboarded. so that's where the sk8r came from. so icysk8r. my mom put them together though when I was little to make me an email. and yes, I posted a pic A while back. Hardly, but I am a good proof-reader, I can find other peoples mistakes easily, even if I make those same mistakes myself. More importantly, our young challenger could really use the skills put forth in this challenge.

Good grammar and spelling are important for a variety of reasons. One reason is the level of seriousness. If you are typing with bad grammar and spelling, many people will not take you seriously, rendering the point you were trying to get across obsolete. While this may be easier on the typist, the reader may experience a lot of frustration and aggravation due to the fact that they can not understand what the writer is trying to say. It is also very important to type in complete sentences, organizing one thought into one paragraph. I have personal experience with this, because I, too, used to type in incomplete sentences, skipping a line very often. While this was convenient to me, many people who were reading got aggravated and told me to stop. Now, I believe I have improved greatly, and anytime I type, I use complete sentences and paragraphs.
Spelling is especially important. If you spell incorrectly, you may not be taken seriously, as stated above. Also, the reader may try to guess what word you were trying to say, and guess incorrectly. Another common thing that people do is type the homonym [words that are said the same, but have different spellings and meanings] to the word they wanted instead of using that word, like confusing “their” with “there” and “they’re.” “They’re” is a contraction for the words "they" and "are". “Their” is a word showing possession of a noun between two people. The last sentence brings me to my next point: Many people will use the word “their”, when describing one person owning something, while the correct way to phrase it would be to use “his” or “her”. The only time to use the word “their” is when there are two people in possession of something.
You should use good grammar and spelling at all times, even whilst socializing with your friends on a social networking site, instant messenger, or email. If you don’t use proper grammar and spelling with your friends, you may struggle greatly on writing a paper for your professor or teacher at school. If you need to write a report for your boss, you can’t waste your time making sure you spell everything correctly and use proper grammar. If you would use proper grammar and spelling at all times, it would already be in your brain that that is what you do. You will not have to consciously think about using good grammar or spelling anymore. This will save you a lot of time not having to go over your essays countless times to make sure they are right.
In conclusion, I find that using proper grammar and spelling at all times is an essential part of life, and will make you seem more intelligent to your peers.

He does, but good Lord, if you find soccer exciting, I have no idea how hockey could possibly be boring. The concepts are the same (get the ball/puck into the goal, which is protected by a goalie), but adds all kinds of other great things to the mix, like hockey sticks, and razor blades on their feet, and wals that you check the other team's members into.

Hockey is BORING!
I would accept this as a legitimate opinion if I weren't reasonably sure that you like soccer (football, whatever).
If you think that football is boring I will just say that may the Lord guard you in His arms.
He does, but good Lord, if you find soccer exciting, I have no idea how hockey could possibly be boring. The concepts are the same (get the ball/puck into the goal, which is protected by a goalie), but adds all kinds of other great things to the mix, like hockey sticks, and razor blades on their feet, and wals that you check the other team's members into.
Plus when they're close to them they don't just flop over very gayishly to get a card on the other player.

Football games suffer from the high probability to end up boring. I don't think that it's that high when it comes to hockey. Still, I like football more than hockey (although I'm not very interested in either).

If you get hit by that thing without equipment (and even with), I'll let you imagine what the consequences may be.

Yeah post-lockout hockey is very different. The neutral zone trap is hardly used anymore and that's what made the game so bland in the mid to late 90's-early 00's. The removal of the two line pass rule, and all the new power play faceoff rules they made have made the game much faster. And the flood of young offensive talent like Ovechkin, Malkin, Crosby, Toews, and all those guys have made the game offensive again. I can see players scoring 130-140 points again in the near future.

Your task is to get yourself a video camera (come on, it's not that difficult to find one. Most regular cameras have video as well. So no excuses and it won't cost you a bit - you can even borrow one) and ask random people at your school to sing a verse of the song (what I wrote is not the whole of it, look up for the rest of the lyrics). So you'll more or less find yourself in this situation:
-You: "Hey, I need a favor. I'm doing this project and I need you collaboration. Do you know that song "smile in My Pants" by
The Lonely Island? The one made famous in SNL. Well, I need to record you singing one part of x verse. Could you help me, please?" (Be persuasive!)
-Kid A: "Sure. I guess."
-You: "Here. Sing this with the rhythm of the song."
-Kid A: "Speeding in the street, when the red lights flash -- Need to get away, need to make a dash."
-You: "That's perfect. Thank you very much. That's great."
And then you proceed to find another boy or girl and repeat that process untill you have most of the lyrics recorded. You will then mix every take so the whole thing is jammed into one song. You have to appear in that video, and your appearance will be at the end of the song when the lyrics go:

Put the original score in the background so you can make it flow better (but mostly so we can sing along ;) ).
It won't too much of your time if you use it wisely. And I make it easier as I don't challenge you for making the kids act (but if they want... bonus points).

It is a good challenge, and I commend you for coming up with such a good challenge, but there is a level of impossibility there, because I cant bring things into school like that. And I cant get that many people on the street to do that without getting jumped at least once.

I mean, i know these are supposed to be challenging, but that is just not possible. It was hard enough getting a PICTURE of someone just holing up a sign, let alone getting a VIDEO of many many many people singing.

EDIT: now that I think about it, I think I can do the part in constant motion. It actually isn't extremely hard if you break it down. don't get me wrong, I will fail at least 20 times... but I think I can get it. As far as HTF goes, I am not so sure if it is hard or not, like I said, I don't really listen to it much.

dude. I don't think I can learn honor thy father in time. I would, but thats learning a 10 minute song in one week, and I still gotta learn the res of constant motion. I will sill do two songs, but maybe do something from awake, or something like that. or just a shorter song. because it is not possible to learn a dream theater song of 10 minutes long in one week, especially if I don't listen to it.
Not trying to complain, but I just don't think I can do it.

EDIT: Yeah, 6:00 is a lot more realistic, I just air drummed it [I know that isn't a good way to know if you can play something, but it gives you an idea of if you know what to hit], and I got it pretty good. I began playing constant motion today, And I have the beginning of the impossible part down pretty good. Tomorrow I have A field trip to an amusement park, and I will stay there all day, so no practicing it tomorrow. I will post the videos on monday, if I can't upload them monday, I will upload them tuesday.

Too many essays are ruining the epic challenges in this thread.
No kidding on both parts here. Geez, the point of this thread was to mildly and humourously abuse the kid all in good fun. The essay was a good challenge (given his historical grammar issues). The photo challenge was original and creative. Drumming is a good challenge since that's his instrument of choice. But c'mon, they need to be reasonably achievable. 10 EPIC challenges that everyone is wanting to make harder and more epic every round is going to ruin this for everyone. My interest is already starting to wane.
He's already got my vote for the unofficial forum baby.

Never mind, I had 6:00 recorded, but for some reason the video was freezing and was all screwy. So I tried rerecording and My computer wasn't letting me hear the song while I was playing. So I will record it on Monday or Tuesday depending on when the computer wants to stop being an asshole.

well. i ahev 6:00 recorded. It is not nearly as good as constant motion. but i didn't practice it as much. And it is a hard song =D. i will upload in a few minutes. Should be ready for you guys in like 15 to 30 minutes.

I gotta agree with Emin about you being too stiff while playing 6:00. This is coming from a fellow drummer, you thought about the song too much while playing it. You didn't see very comfortable playing it compared to Constant Motion.
Always try to feel comfortable with the songs, when one is thinking too much about the drum parts (what's coming next, gotta be ready) one tends to mess up and/or the songs ends up with no grooviness (thanks Emin, :lol) to it.

Yes, my point was that when you're playing along with the recording, if you play anything differently then it'll be noticeable because you can hear the recording behind it.

I thought of one challenge he could do. It's fairly easy, and could be fun for him, too. It's basically the same as the kids do in the Mini-playback-show. He'd record a video of himself doing the vocals of one of DT's epics but without actually singing. All he'd need to do is play the song in the background, take a fake mic, and dig holes! :biggrin:
