The whole idea, is we get one hat, and ship it across the world, one DTF member at a time, and take pictures with said hat.
Now, first off we need people interested, shipping info for each person, and work out who gets the hat and when. I think I shall keep all of the shipping info, for privacy reasons, and only give out one address to each member interested.

I have sent letters and CD's from Bogotá, Colombia to France and it cost me $56. I sent last Christmas two toys, and by the weight (really, not heavy at all) cost me $86. The gift cost me $15. Ridiculous.

I get the feeling we are going to be confined with the US/North America. Again, unless someone really feels like being a bro and paying for International shipping. But it's not required in any way.
I think this is a good idea though. I think I shall do what I can to find a decent enough hat, and if anyone else is willing to look as well, that'd be great.

I say add anything that can fit in whatever you ship it in. Either add something to the hat, or to the overall package. I'm willing to be really lenient with this, seeing how it's all for the lulz.

Now I like this suggestion quite a bit as well. I'm thinking we should all make sure to take pictures in interesting places, and not just take mirror shots in our bathrooms. That'd get rather boring.
Also, unless you plan on adding some graffiti to the hat, I say just include the flair in the packaging for another person to attach to the hat when taking the picture.

Well it seems we are getting quite a few members interested. I think it's safe to say we are making this happen. So, those interested please PM me your shipping info, so I can get a spreadsheet of some sort set up to organize who is sending the hat to who.
You address will only be known by myself, and by the member shipping the hat.
Now, I'm wondering, do we want to keep it a secret who is shipping the hat to who, or make a list when that is all decided?

I'll look into getting a collapsable top hat since our donated one is no longer available. Not to sound like a dick, but it seems like I'm one of the few over the age of 21 willing to participate (what does that say about me?), and if that's the case, I also probably have the most disposable income.
I won't have a lot of free time this week because I have a house guest staying with me and he's brand new to America, so I'm trying to help him find an apartment, furnish it, and prepare for his wife and kids to come over, but that would give us time to get more people on board and organize.

So here is the thing. I'd love to get this hat to the UK, that would be so damn sweet. Only issue is shipping costs. Like I said, I have no problem with it making it's way over there, as long as someone is willing to pay the shipping (unless someone has another plan that would work better).

So here is the thing. I'd love to get this hat to the UK, that would be so damn sweet. Only issue is shipping costs. Like I said, I have no problem with it making it's way over there, as long as someone is willing to pay the shipping (unless someone has another plan that would work better).
That's why it should be arrange to minimise shipping distances, and only one person would have to ship it across to Europe. Lots of people here have sent things transatlantically to each other (bootlegs, secret santa presents etc).

I do have a history of destroying things...including sodium explosions. Here is a picture of what part of me looked like a week after surviving a sodium still explosion at point blank range (Most of my torso looked the same, but I wasn't willing to model for a picture. Also my face was somewhat cut up.

No, but I couldn't sleep well for days it hurt so badly and I had the hand of a rhino for weeks.
The worst part of the whole this is no one at work noticed or believed it hurt as bad as it did (I spilled boiling water all over my left hand), so I didn't get any water or ice on it until I went home 3 hours later.

That would probably be the least time consuming way for me to do this, yes.
That way I don't have to PM every person signed up all at once.
Also, 2 quick notes:
1. I have decided that this Sunday evening is the absolute deadline for members to sign up. After that, I will begin working on the hat's tour schedule and maybe consulting one or two of you on the matter.
2. I MIGHT have a hat worth using. It's an old, green and white striped cat in the hat style hat. If I can find it (it's buried SOMEWHERE in my closet or garage) I'll post pics. Hopefully someone else can attempt to find a hat in the meantime.

- I am currently working on the route for the hat. I've been busy/preoccupied the past couple of days, but I'm working on it. It should be done soon.
- I still have not come across the hat I was looking for, but I'll keep looking once I have time. But in the meantime, can SOMEONE please look into finding a hat in case I can't? It'd be much appreciated.

Signing is cool, but it would be really hard to do on a dark-colored hat (that's also why I like the idea of adding buttons, etc). We also might want to consider the color of the hat and photos. Mine is cool but it's also black, so if someone takes a pic at night you might not even be able to see it. I'm wiling to give it up (maybe not have it destroyed :P) but I think it might be more fun to have a crazier looking hat that stands out more... while also retaining softness and ability to squish for shipping.

So here's what I'm thinking, whoever finds a suitable hat will send it to me, after they do what they see fit with the hat. Then, I will just scratch that person off of the list, and continue as scheduled.

When I took the hat off my head, I lifted it by the fuzz ball. The fuzz ball remained in my hand as the hat fell to the floor, broken.
It wasn't intentional, but the shocked look on everyone's face was, well, one of those things for which you just had to be there.
I'm pretty sure that ZGF was in eyesight of it. Also, I think SASR and antipop were right there, as well, since I borrowed the hat from them to get that second pic taken. rumby might have been there as well; I know I spoke (and drank) with him there that day.

I think it should be up to the person who has the hat. I mean, unless the hat is one where signing it would be useless (color, size, etc.). Either way, everyone is going to be required to add their own personal touch to the hat.
I think what we should do is at the very least have a card in the packaging for everyone to sign, which may or may not make it back to myself.

Yeah, I sent it parcel vs. priority ($2+ vs. $5+) because I spent all my money this week on textbooks and beer ( :facepalm: :D) but the dude said it should arrive by Saturday.
I am soo busy in these next few days (finals, ahhh) but should be posting my pics tonight or tomorrow. Still have to make the transfer.
Btw, I think each person should take pics in the hat BEFORE adding personal touches to it. That's what I did; that way the hat's appearance/condition is a surprise for the next person.

I'm SO tempted to see if I can still get in on this on its European tour, but I've got a feeling I'd just slow the hat down. My living situation is a little too er, peripatetic, to really be able to reliably receive a package and turn it over in quick time. Kinda between two houses more or less evenly, and unpredictably. Still, what a thing of beauty. I'll be following it.

I just received the hat in the mail today. I didn't get home until around 6ish however, with a migraine. So taking pictures wasn't possible.
I'm definitely going to get my pictures taken and contribute my addition to the hat within the next couple of days. Depends on which day I have more free time. In case it doesn't get to Splent sometime this week, I apologize. I would love for it to, but we still have Bosky and Sigz first.

Good game, that. Been playing it recently for the first time since my early teens. I'm way better at it nowadays. Fucking rock, I do. Love being an adult. All clever and TombRaiderry. Authentically good games what's more! People always go "oh, they've made their intelligent, independent heroine attractive - how sexist;" and neglect the fact that the first four were, at heart, some seriously interesting, unique and actually fairly revolutionary games. Really, really entertaining. Great fun.
Although, tense. That boulder-trap chord invoked the fear of god, fucking hell. I started my little replay-spree with Tomb Raider 3 and for the majority of the India levels I point blank refused to play it after dark. I'd forgotten how creepy it was. Statues coming to life and scaring the bollocks out of me. One of them actually caused a brief kidney failure, or close enough. I've got used to it now, though. No matter how improbable the spikes are, I've got into the habit of a minor "CRAP!" moment, and then just laughing at my idiocy.

I'm actually rather sad about how this all turned out. It was such a promising idea. And all that work I put into it :P. Though, now would be a good time to thank everyone who participated, it couldn't have been done without you people (even thought it was never completed).
Also a very special thank you goes out to Jackie, for all the additional help she put forward to try and get this ball a-rolling. I really, really appreciate it. And also UMH for taking the reigns while I was gone for several weeks.
